Sits at the bottom of Brick Lane, conveniently just around the corner from Aldgate East station. Stayed two nights for business trip. Not really a pub, more a little bistro with rooms. The rooms are small but comfortable and have nice touches like digital radio and tea/coffee making facility. The roof kitchen garden is a nice feature, allbeit not that useful for guests. There is no lift. The stairs, even to the top, are not that challenging but I would not fancy lugging heavy suitcases to the upper floors. The staff are happy to help with carrying cases but keep that in mind if you are not good with stairs. Breakfast was very good and cooked fresh. The staff, especially Clement and Robert, were all friendly and helpful. Good choice for a solo business trip or short stay for couples travelling light who want a change from the usual big chains. The location is great and it is very reasonably priced for London. The core of the building is old and you just get the feeling it has seen some things in its time. One slight criticism would be the seating/stools in the bar area, not very comfortable/relaxing as you have to perch awkwardly on them. As a follow up, they quickly resolved an issue with my receipt after my stay and sent me a new one, responding promptly and politely. All in all, thanks and keep it up!

I thought this would be ok, but I was not expecting this ... this place is amazing. I stayed for a night and wish it had been a month. We had drinks (on the sun trap of a roof at sunset with the most amazing view), dinner (ok, how does food this good get served in a pub on brick lane - the food is incredible), slept in one of the rooms (that bed is so comfy I want it at home), and had breakfast (more incredible food). The decor is perfect - it's so relaxing just sitting having a meal in the bar. The whole place is like a box of delights, from the bar, to the stairs, to the rooms, to the roof. Not only that but if you feel you do need to go somewhere else then brick lane is literally on your doorstep. I'm seriously considering just moving in to one of the rooms permanently.

Stayed for three nights in January fri-mon over a weekend. The rooms are small, anything longer than three or four days and you may struggle, but we managed fine. Also if you're in London I'm not sure how much time you really want to spend in your room. They were clean and tidy, there's a speaker (which is a great touch), kettle coffee maker, tv, en-suite shower/ wc. It does get noisy on a Friday and Saturday night, but that's down to the area. You can ask for a room at the side. The central heating also kept us toasty. The buxtin itself is a great place for a drink and they also do food. The breakfast was exceptional. The staff were super nice and becsuse it's small you get a sense of community in there. There was some confusion over serving alcohol with breakfast on a couple of occasions. However hotels/ guest houses with licenses can serve alcohol to guests staying overnight at any time. This was soon rectified and I had three delicious bloody Mary's. Also the music in the bar / bistro was fantastic, funk, soul, R&B / northern soul, ska / reggae. They frown on dancing a little bit but when they play such good music what can they expect? The location is very good for Whitechapel, Shoreditch and Hoxton. You can also easily walk to the tower of London and if you fancy a walk central London is approx 1hour away. We didn't spend much time on the terrace as it was cold, but I'm sure it's good in summer. I'd recommend this place for solo travellers or couples on short stays looking to stay in a different part of town. Thanks to all the team...

Bar - review only. We ended up in this bar after a birthday lunch and dinner around 9:30 pm in an excellent mood. My small group of 4 ordered some champagne and wine, then asked respectfully if we can have birthday slice of cake to finish off my birthday with our drinks. The waiter’s short and sharp reply was – ‘No cake from outside here’ and she walked off abruptly with an attitude. We thought that was strange and rude. So we asked another staff the same question and explained it was my birthday. The staff said - sure and can’t see why not. The same waiter rushed to the table, then belittled this staff, and said to the staff – why did you say - 'it is ok to eat here, no cake from outside', then walked off abruptly again. In effect we were ‘told off’ by this waiter, I felt for the staff and it caused embarrassment to us. This waiter turned out to be the Manager.

All these happened while we saw another couple on the other side of the bar celebrating birthday cake with candle with their drinks. My group is a group of 4 included 2 silver haired elderly gentlemen having a quiet drink. The manager’s reply was rude and we felt it was not the way to reply to the customer and treating her staff in this setting. We felt we were ‘told off’ rather than being informed. It was not a good end to my Birthday celebration.

We did not have a good experience in the Bar and...

The Buxton provided possibly some of the best service that I have received at a hotel in London thus far.

The general managers were available at any time for a call and had amazing customer service skills - and a very good sense of humour.

The dinner was magnificent, as was the breakfast, which came with our stay, we enjoyed a fantastic breakfast for two days with the pre-set menu, which in no way was restricted, and had many options for those with dietary requirements. Similarly, the coffee and other drinks had alternatives for those who could not have lactose.

The rooms were comfortable and clean and serviced daily. There is an “essentials” instruction manual in the rooms which was extraordinarily helpful. If you didn’t understand certain aspects, there was the phone number of the general manager who you could contact as well.

The bathrooms at wonderful smelling soap and water pressure was fantastic and the towel warmer is perfect for what it does.

Its proximity to the east end and Bricklane, as well as Aldgate East station is nothing to turn your nose up at, it has great centrality to train stations as well as some amazing food items and the markets on the East End.

Overall, a fantastic and comfortable stay, I would highly recommend this to anybody who wishes to have a wonderful experience in the...
