I’m going to reiterate what people have already said in previous reviews. The shame that this place isn’t more well known is insane. The food was perfect, and I don’t use that lightly. If you are reading these reviews and guessing/deciding where to eat, your search ends here. This is the most hidden gem food I’ve had since moving to Anchorage. I try not to go crazy on reviews unless the service is other worldly, and deserving.
Started with the drinks, the Strawberry Lemonade wasn’t your average pour a glass of bottled strawberry lemonade and call it a day. The lemonade was refreshing along with the clear taste of fresh strawberry. The iced thai tea was so flavorful and unexpected, I was impressed with the sweetness level it reached without taking away from the flavor of the tea.
The appetizers were also not your frozen and then reheated dishes that we have all become so accustomed to when ordering both Lumpia and Potstickers. There was genuine care, ingredients, and freshness with both dishes we had.
Then my girlfriend and I both ordered the ramen, and when I tell you that the tonkotsu that it was served with was crispy and delicious, I mean I felt spoiled while eating it. The egg served in it was served to perfection, where it wasn’t over or undercooked. The broth didn’t have an overbearing saltiness as I’ve had in several other miso broths.
All in all, I am looking forward to coming back to try literally every single other dish because they did not falter in any dish served. Give The Rickshaw...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem and I am so upset I just found it. This is not the typical, mediocre, shamefully watered down, Asian flavor that we typically find. For our first visit, we decided to try several dishes. We ordered: Thai Ice Tea, Kale Cucumber Lemonade, Gyoza Potstickers, Lumpia Filipino Egg Rolls, Ramen Tonkotsu Miso Noodle Soup, Thai Yellow Curry with Chicken served with Jasmine Rice, Curry Fried Rice with Shrimp, Crying Tiger (New York Strip Steak served with Jasmine Rice), Spicy Drunken Noodles with Shrimp, and Mongolian Beef served with Jasmine Rice.
Every dish was presented beautifully and was full of distinctly separate flavors.
Most notable: the crispy sear on the pork slices in the ramen made for a tender and buttery-like texture; not dried out like most places, the silkiness of the yellow curry hits to the bone - feels like a missing-home-comfort-food, the soft, fresh, crispy vegetables are the perfect balance to the softness of the flat drunken noodles which absorb the seasoning so well, the texture of the Mongolian beef is buttery soft and coated with just the right amounts of sweet and savory goodness without drowning the dish to soggy mush, the Crying Tiger… look for the picture - enough said.
My only recommendation is adding desserts to the menu. Mochi or sweet sticky rice with mango would have topped the night off right!
Can taste and appreciate that the food is carefully...
Read moreQuiet polite staff and kept eyes on the tables for quick service. Basic decor but inviting and not polished.
The ramen was a very salty miso had a beef flavor. Not a tonkotsu pork style. Thinner broth matching a typical miso. Egg was done nicely, and a small bok choy with scallions. The charsiu was very thin and fried and tasted like crispy bacon. Regular portion with a good portion of package noodles.
The mango rice was a warm sticky rice with a white butter sauce topping. Sliced mango on top and no incorporation of ingredients. It is one of the non sweet varieties I encounter occasionally.
Overall, it is just average and gets the job done. I think if I ordered the Thai items, I'd be more apt to recommend this restaurant instead of a Japanese main course.
The price was around 24.00 with tip, so it's worth a visit if you are craving affordable and quick no frills Thai.
I'd not really recommend other than price, speed, and a...
