We came here tonight since it’s been a staple in the community and we hadn’t been for a while but decided to go since we were in the mood for chicken and waffles. When we came in, around 8:30 at night, we were immediately met with a huge line of people waiting and some walking out due to the horrible service. We decided to wait and once finally seated, we waited for over 20 minutes before the gal who sat us came to check on us and see if we had been greeted by our server yet, which we hadn’t. Finally someone comes over and we placed our order at 9:06. At 9:45, our drinks had still not come, neither had water been served. Another server came over and said he noticed we had been waiting so he was going to go check on our order. 10 minutes later we got water but still no drinks. 10 minutes later our waiter comes to tell us that they are waiting for our chicken sausage since they ran out and had to open a new package and said he would “try to get it out to us is he can” and then offered if I wanted regular chicken…so because we had already waited so long for our food, I took his advice to get chicken instead of th sausage. At 10:00pm, our eggs showed up and finally our orange juice. Our food came out a while later and guess what? It was the original order and no substitute chicken…but also missing a waffle, but because we had to wait longer for our food, our eggs were cold. My husbands eggs had egg shells in it. The chicken sausage was disgusting, the biscuits is as dry as a dessert, and the waffles were so undone and soggy. Overall such a waste and the service was the worst I’ve ever received. Mostly I want to point out, the blatant racism going on in this place. We and another table were the only white people in this place and both of us were the only once’s who hadn’t been served, hadn’t received drinks for over 40 minutes after ordering. The other tables who were African families all had their food promptly, their drinks filled and refilled and were paying and out the door while the two white tables waited for over an hour for our food and drinks. Imagine this the other way around and a black family was alone in a restaurant filled with white people, the outrage would be hellacious! When we left, we had to track our waiter down for the bill and found that the ticket was put in at 9:35 which was 20 minutes after we placed our order at 9:06 and their excuse was they are behind and short staffed. They had plenty of staff, 3-4 in the kitchen and food runners so they definitely weren’t short staffed. Maybe if they put the orders in immediately, there wouldn’t be these problems. When we went to pay, we asked if you offered a military discount and was told yes however they again didn’t honor it and we paid full price for some absolutely garbage food! There is no reason for this, and I have no idea how this place is so popular because the food is not good, service is beyond poor but worst of all is they don’t honor veterans and the blatant racism going on. Will not be back and will be sharing my experience with everyone I know. The other white family left due to the long wait and lack of service. No...
Read moreIf you're scanning reviews, here's the bottom-line: Chicken & waffles are a tasty combination, and "Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles" does it right. Find a Roscoe's and enjoy.
Until just recently, I'd never had chicken & waffles served together as a meal. In fact, on various comedy sitcoms over the years, I recall hearing one of the comedians mentioning something about getting "chicken & waffles". In all sincerity and with no offense intended towards anyone, I thought it was a long running joke - just saying something silly to get a laugh. To me, at least back then, the combination of "Chicken & waffles" sounded about as odd as "tartar sauce & Cap'n Crunch cereal".
Fast-forward to a couple weeks ago when a group of volleyball team parents I was with had decided they wanted to head over to Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles in Anaheim, CA (just down the street from the Anaheim Convension Center and Disneyland). Reality set in as I found myself actually sitting at a table and ordering chicken & waffles for the first time.
QUALITY OF THE FOOD - Next thing I know, I'm enjoying the delicious "Carol B. Special". In fact, several of the parents sitting near me had decided to order the same dish, and they all seemed to enjoy it.
SERVICE - From the time we stepped in the front door to the time we left, the service was very good and friendly. Our waiter kept returning to see what if anything we needed along the way - including drinks. Bewarned that the Anaheim Roscoe's can get very busy at dinnertime due to the proximity of Disney, etc. Just get there a little earlier to help avoid having to wait for a table.
PAYING - One thing I didn't like is that they have a policy of not allowing the bill to be split among the various groups at a table (in our case, the team families). I understand that, at times, it can be a bit of a hassle for the server to deal with. But, most restaurants just do it for the convenience of their guests. My group wasn't prepared for this policy, so several of us had to scramble to get cash ponied up. So, either bring enough cash to make it easier on yourself, or be willing to receive it from others when you'll be the one putting the whole tab on your credit card. I'm holding off a star just for this inconvenience.
In the end, the long running chicken & waffles "joke" was actually on me. The combination is very tasty, and I recommend that you check out a Roscoe's.
Thank you for Liking...
Read moreEt tu Roscoe's?! I was anticipating, with glee, going to Roscoe's. Haven't been in over 2 years. My daughter asked if we could get dinner there after our Disneyland visit. I jumped at the chance because she is usually tired and ready to go straight home after a day at the park. I didn't eat all day, not even at the park, because I did not want to be too full for chicken and waffles. We left early from Disneyland (and we never leave early!) because we wanted chicken and waffles that bad... Got to the restaurant and was greeted by a very nice gentleman who seated us. Was thrown off that we had to QR scan for a menu (I'm old) but my daughter is handy and pulled it right up, so it was a nice touch, I guess. Our server was very nice. Took our order and our wait time was minimal... I knew better to just order my food (a #2 with gravy on the side. Been ordering like that since the late 80's) and not be specific... Our food came & the chicken was HOT (still had the oil bubbling, lol). My waffles were slathered in butter (yay!) but dark brown and chewy (eww). My daughter's food looked great and her waffles were normal and beige. She said her food was fine. I didn't see our server for some time to complain. My chicken was cooling and so I wound up eating my food (shame on me, I know). I ALWAYS politely speak up. Don't know why I didn't say anything. Waffles didn't taste the same. They had a cinnamon-like vanilla burnt taste to it. I'm used to buttery golden waffles with maple syrup. I've been to every Roscoe's in Southern Cali for decades. They all taste the same. BOMB.COM. But last night was off. My chicken breast tasted old, but my chicken wing was VERY good... To make matters worse, I ordered a #1 to go for my Mom, and again the waffles were really bad, like they were BURNT. Guess what I didn't do... I didn't check the bag b4 leaving the restaurant (again, dummy me). She was so excited to get her food and so disappointed when she saw the burnt waffles. I live hours away so it was no use of even trying to drive back. Probably won't ever go back to this location. At least my kid's food was good though... The 2 stars were for the good hospitality. Took a couple of pics (flash and no flash,...
