I was their first customer on a cool Monday morning, and as I approached the coffee bar I noticed that the barista was getting dialed in. Thatās when I knew Iād stumbled onto something special.
For those not in the know, ādialing inā is the process of adjusting the grind size of the coffee to achieve the perfect time for your shot of espresso. Too short and the espresso is stringent and underextracted; if it goes too long, itās overwhelming and loses its brightness. Get it just right and a good barista can bring out the best in a coffee, making it truly sing as it hits all the best notes.
As soon as I realized what he was doing, I knew I had to order an espresso. Iām glad I did, because the flavor profile was excellent. āItās nice to see a serious coffee shop in town,ā I told them.
I wish I couldāve spent all day here. The book shop is cozy and full of all sorts of treasures. As a west coast boy, we donāt get to see many old buildings like this, so the feel and sight and smell of the place was just as intoxicating as the double shot of espresso I was sipping on.
This place is a MUST try if youāre in town, and is one of my favorite coffee shops Iāve...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe live around the corner on Prince George. This is the anti-Starbucks with competent baristas and a mellow environment. Brown Mustache is a coffee shop within a bookstore within a house that was built like in 1869(?). I get my morning fix here while walking our dog Lucy who is also welcome.
My wife and I like the bookstore setting for reading the NYT. Our just graduated daughter loves studying for the MCAT here. Not for us anymore but the store itself has a sweet kids section. There is a fun kids clubhouse built from books out back in a virtual secret garden where you can also enjoy your caffeine.
We have lived around Annapolis twenty+ years and at one time or another we have been to all 5-6 coffee shops within the downtown. These guys although new, are consistent and if not the best, tied for first place. They could use a little more room as sometimes it gets wall to wall in there and once in a blue moon, the waits can be annoying but it's still a 5 star regardless.
Look, it's a five minute stroll from Starbucks through some of the greatest historic residential streets in America...a little effort will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've visited twice in the past couple of years and each time, the coffee is so bitter that it's outright unpleasant. Instead of being bold and balanced, it's too much of a "good" thing. They also don't have plain sugar (only the raw sugar) or Sweet & Low in the pink packets. I guess they're trying to go all-natural. Last comment... and this is not only here but, oh so many coffee houses. When they allow people to camp out on their electronic devices long after they've finished their coffee, it really sucks for new customers coming in who want to have a seat for a short time (and actually talk to one another, not be buried in a laptop). This happens constantly and I'm not sure why they don't have signs requesting a time limit so that others may enjoy the space. It could be nicely worded as a request, even, and not as a policy. Thanks, but I'll stay home for better coffee along with a...
