terrible experience all around.
I should have known it was going to be bad watching the couple in front of us wait over 10 minutes for a host to show up. we had dinner reservations at 6:45 and decided to move past the host station to the bar. the bartender had 4 other people at the bar and continued to work over 10 minutes before even acknowledging us. finally we got a no eye contact "do you know what you want" without being offered a specials menu. we waved down the host (who was the manager) and told him we were ready for our table.
after we were seated we waited over 20 minutes for our server to even show up. we were not given a drink menus so we had to ask for that. after another 15 minutes we ordered a bottle of champagne but still had not received any waters. finally, our waters came and eventually the manager brought the champagne. he was very nice and professional. we ordered an appetizer and waited over 35 minutes for our appetizer. no refill on waters. My husband ordered the soup and when it arrived it was cold. we got our entree.. I ordered the 6oz filet mignon and he ordered the porterhouse, in addition to adding twice baked potato, mushrooms, and asparagus. we were given six stalks of asparagus and one potato. It was extremely overpriced for the portions we were given. the mushrooms tasted like they had been left in a plastic container for too long. when my husband's porter house was brought, it had the smell of funky meat. the kind of meat you buy on sale because it is expiring that day and you go home and you make spaghetti with it and it's still smells funky and you eat it because it smells funky but the reason you eat it is because it was cheap. let me remind you this is a $72 porter house. I eventually went to the manager at the bar and commented on the meat and it it was taken off of our bill. our bill was still $221 and it just sucks paying that much money and sitting in a restaurant for two and a half hours to leave disappointed, still hungry, and picking up McDonald's on the way home. watching couple after couple who came in after us and leave before us, what the heck is going on?!
I've always had a feeling that restaurants that are attached to hotels have subpar food, and because we have been to Mark's east side, red ox, and comparable restaurants in the area with cheaper prices and better food I am just so bummed. I'm sitting here asking myself, is it because we came the day after a holiday? does their food truck come on Fridays? like why was it so terrible? I'm trying to come up with excuse after excuse for what feels like a purposely slow service and I've got nothing. I am convinced the only reason this place is still in business is because it has Lombardi's name on it. just a total disappointment...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām a bit confused on this one. I got to Appleton a little bit late and walked into the steakhouse at a few minutes after 9 PM during the week. The website says they are open for dinner through 10 PM every night and 11 PM on weekends so I thought I was OK. When I walked in at 9:05 PM I asked the bartender and two other people if I could have dinner and one person said yes no problem, the other two including the bartender, my server, said weāre not sure we think weāre closing. Right then I shook my head as wouldnāt you want to invite a customer in to the bar who might order drinks, wine, and a 60 or $70 steak?
The gentleman that waited on me at the bar was nice but he was training and learning so he was pretty noncommittal and seemed like I was too late to really give good service to.
After I realized I could still order food and the kitchen was not closed an hour early, I ordered a Kansas City dry aged strip steak. I waited about 20 minutes and when it came out, it was between medium well and well done, but I ordered medium rare. It was marginally flavorful, but so crazily overcooked that I sent it back. This is a $70 steak. I hold premium steakhouses to a higher standard because they charge so much for a cut of meat and at minimum I want exactly what I order.
It was interesting that one of the other servers that was closing her station actually was proactive and said āif this is not right we will get you what you ordered.ā She did not have to do this and I was not even her customer, but she provided great service. I did not get her name, but she was really great and she changed my entire evening. Whoever you are, keep up the great work and you should be promoted.
Once the standard New York strip came out, medium rare, the steak was absolutely fantastic. Honestly, one of the best steaks Iāve had in years, and I have eaten at capital Grille, Del Friscoās, and other steakhouses as I travel for work.
So again, this is kind of a mixed review but I guess if you are a steakhouse downtown and are going to stay open, treat every customer like they are a steakhouse customer and they are going to spend $100-$150 on their meal. That warrants good service, proactive behavior, and knowledge...
