Sunday brunch party of 4, 2 kids. My partner didn't like her drink special and they replaced it and didn't charge her for the 1st drink. As we waited for food and snacked on ordered scones, we were relentlessly teased by 3 separate flies!!! disgusting! All the food came out, mine was a little delayed, I ordered the huckleberry cornbread special with bacon. Thick cut pork belly bacon with a fancy glaze. I noticed fibers on my bacon, 4-5 instantly and then a multitude more. Fibers you will find on a basting brush in larks kitchen. Basting brushes with these types of fibers need to be inspected regularly and thrown out when showing wear OR better choice use a silicone basting brush or produce (kale, carrot fronds, fennel fronds, rosemary stem)to baste so when "fibers" fall off at least they are edible and not some synthetic nylon/plastic.
I did speak with staff who were apologetic and replaced my meal, however my family had finished by the time my brunch was served (i actually was heading to the counter to ask they box it instead so we could leave) everyone by then had cleaned their plates, I didn't want to eat with everyone staring at me waiting for me to finish. The bill was full price, nothing comped, i did leave with a meal... But the experience of dining for Sunday Brunch with my family was ruined. They 3 dined, while I, watched and kibbitzed a few bites. Also the potatoes on my replacement meal were underdone, signs that they tried to rush my food out to try an save the dining experience.
I was later offered a free dessert or a free drink on my NEXT visit...and when I told them how uninterested I was to spend more money at their establishment for 2-4 entrees just for a free drink or dessert they did offer me 1 free entree. I guess... Since my brunch was ruined they left it open for us to enjoy a kid free date night at 1/2 the price... But then again I'd end up paying the sitter more...so a family dinner at 3/4 the price or realistically 2/3 the price (cause kids meals are cheap but still...
Read moreWe ate at Larks twice the first time we thought it was absolutely perfect the wait staff was right on the ball the hostess seated as quickly as possible though we did have reservations and the braised rabbit was perfect. Though I call it more of a fettuccine dish and red sauce with shredded rabbit it was really quite good my wife have the ribeye which was the special and it was delicious as well. The dessert was a marionberry type of cobbler and that was pretty good as well. The song mentioning the cheese plate which was the appetizer now only because I have an issue with it we thought it a bit small for two people and for $16. The second night we were seated in a an area narrow window in a bit of an elevated area right off the entrance. The server I think was a little bit on the new side. Tonight and it was the same hostess wanted to spend more time talking to the waiters and waitresses back in a little alcove then she did the night before needing to seat customers who tended to be walking in on their own and seating themselves she wasn't interested in doing her job at all. Now for the cheese plate what a wonderful magnificent piece of work we got a variety of cheese bread and an explanation of the cheeses and enough cheese easily for three people quite a difference from the night before and fairly worth $16. Tonight I have the Kobe beef and my wife had the chicken and everything would have been perfect tonight except two flies that taunted us until I trapped one behind the curtain and crushed it. I'm sure it's still there. Definitely a good restaurant but someone needs to monitor the employee's A little bit and when a customer complains about the Flies someone needs to do...
Read moreFor an average of $100 for two entrées with only lemonade as a beverage, I expected more from the food. I ordered the Grilled Hanger Steak, requested medium rare. The meat was properly prepared, with the perfect ratio of external sear to properly red inside. The Sauce Bearnaise however, was bland at best, so the steak couldn't really "pop" as it should have, given the bland sauce. The potato pave was an interesting play, replacing more traditional mashed potatoes, but again, the flavor was rather basic and incomplete. Infusing them with a peppered thyme and rosemary butter reduction would add a much deserved savory flavor to the entire meal. The roasted Zucchini was delicious. The other entrée ordered was the fried chicken. The breading had a bit of a peppery zing, which was tasty and nothing outside of expectations. As with the potato pave, the mashed potatoes were underwhelming and could have benefited from even the lightest hint of added flavor, perhaps a fancy salt with truffle oil... Anyway, Larks may be one of the finer dinner dining experiences in Ashland, but personally, I expected a little more polish from the main courses. I'd order the steak again, given some salt and pepper were put on the table....
