I leave a few reviews a year, usually if the restaurant was exceptional or if it was absolutely awful. This happens to be the latter of the two. First off, when we sat down we were told that we can't have sushi (at a sushi restaurant). Very odd, next when I ordered a nice bottle of sake, I tasted it, and then my girlfriend asked to taste it and the sake sommelier said "This isn't wine, and I am going to pour it anyway" and he proceeded to the other end of the table to pour the sake out.
The side dishes we ordered came after all of the main courses had been finished for about 15 mins. Not to mention, the food was HORRIBLE. (The beef skewers were the worst I have had in my entire life). The shrimp dumplings came out and the shrimp was not cooked, and by this I mean not even close. The shrimp was purple and cold) Now I know why this was the only reservation in Aspen available over the holidays as the locals and other must know that this place is not it.
If you are going to be the most expensive restaurant at least have good food to back up the prices. Go to Matsuisha or Kenichi If you want good Japanese. (they actually serve the sushi they promise). You have been warned! The reviews must be...
Read moreMadame Ushi was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The decor sets the perfect ambiance for a memorable meal. By far, the most beautiful restaurant in Aspen! The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and eager to offer recommendations.
The highlight, of course, was the food. Madame Ushi offers a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, and every dish we tried was a masterpiece. The sushi was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented, and the ceviche was bursting with vibrant flavors. The signature rolls were innovative and delicious, each bite a delightful blend of textures and tastes.
The cocktail menu is equally impressive, featuring creative concoctions that perfectly complemented our meal. The attention to detail in every aspect of the dining experience, from the thoughtfully curated menu to the elegant presentation, made our evening truly special.
Madame Ushi is a must-visit for anyone in Aspen looking for an extraordinary culinary adventure. I can't wait to return and explore more of their...

Food: Awful. This restaurant felt like a place that copied a sushi restaurant. Fish was not fresh - smelled. The sauces were unbalanced for many dishes. The wagyu dumplings tasted as if someone dumped cinnamon. The salmon with crispy rice tasted more like herring slathered in mayo on top of latkes.
Service: It was NYE. I get it - the restaurant is busy. However, after booking my table for 1 month in advance to celebrate an anniversary, they placed my husband and I on a high top by the entrance of the restaurant. We didn’t want to sit there. Frankly, it was a horrible seat. The hostess was incredibly rude about it when we inquired about being seated elsewhere. The manager found a way to accommodate us in the main dining room, but I was shocked by the service. The waiters were very pleasant, however, so nothing against the wait staff.
My last thought is - this restaurant felt like one giant cultural appropriation of Japanese food and culture. Everything inside the restaurant, including the food, felt like...
