I went in hoping online this place. With no menu online ( that could find) I was forced to go in. Once there I looked over the menu and didn’t really want to spend like $30 for 4 tacos with tax. Maybe I’m cheap but the prices felt steep on some stuff, which made the other items less appealing.
So anyway after standing in line for about 8-10 mins while the cashier small talked some friends he finally acknowledged me. I just ordered chips and salsa which was the most reasonably priced thing and I was already there. I sit and the chips came out fast. As they should.
One of the employees stopped and asked if I needed anything and I asked a question about some cake. He didn’t know the answer. When he came back 5 min later he brought the wrong answer and had to go back again to ask around. After a few different questions that he couldn’t answer any of I sort of gave up. I feel like the down time of permits or what not would have been a good time for training on menu items and how to use the handhelds to get cost or info.
I asked about the cake because no sign indicated the flavor just something about garden cake or daily cake. Once I finally got the flavor I was like sure I’ll get a piece. Mind you it was 2pm and he’s like oh it’s not ready. So I ask how long!? He didn’t know. Eventually he comes back with a 30-45 min wait for cake. 45 mins for a slice of cake?! I mean is it literally just going in/coming out mid day?!
As for the space it’s super tight inside and if people are sitting at the bar area I feel like you almost have to turn sideways and side step down like 30-40 ft of high top chairs. Maybe it’s me but I’m not a big guy (155lb)
Outside seating seemed a little more spacious and probably more ideal if available.
I get it’s new but after the delays, friends and family, free food day, and everything else at least some basic menu knowledge....
Read moreFood wasn't bad, although my girlfriend got pork in her Chilaquiles instead of the chicken she ordered, but that's life. My biggest issue is that their menu as it is currently written is deceptive (in my opinion).
See the attached image. I got the carne asada burrito. Based on my reading of that menu, I was under the impression that it came with the tortilla chips. When the burrito arrived and I asked about the chips I was informed that they only came with the bowl, and to get them as a side would be $4 more (lol).
When you have a big section on your menu that says BURRITOS and then underneath that big section you write "SERVED WITH LETTUCE, CREMA, PICO, AND CHIPS", that is what people are going to expect with the burrito they order. And the burrito I did receive DID come with the lettuce, crema, and pico, just not the chips. It is not at all clear that to get the chips included, you must get the bowl. When I saw the small little "Make it a Bowl" blurb off to the side, my understanding was that it was $2 extra simply because they gave you more total filling with the bowl.
Now I am not going to claim to be the sharpest tool in the shed, and maybe I should have intuitively made that connection that the chips weren't included, but what I will say is that there are plenty of unsharp tools in the shed and I do not believe I am the first person that felt they did not receive the total amount of what they ordered. And unless they change the menu formatting, I will not be the last person to feel this way. People like a place that has good food, but even a good meal can be ruined by the feeling that you did not receive what you thought you had ordered because of poor menu design, and that was my personal experience.
TL;DR - food was decent, they got my girlfriend's order wrong, and their menu pricing is arguably...
Read moreMy 3yo son and I decided to let mom sleep in while we engaged on a mission to try out the new Taqueria. We went for The Willie and The Crockett for me and my son gave the Masa Harina Hotcakes a try off the brunch menu.
The staff was very helpful at the counter helping us make our decision and the rest of the staff was very interactive with my son. You can truly tell that the restaurant team has a family vibe going which made the place welcoming and very comfortable. We were there shortly after 8am so there wasn’t really a crowd yet but can imagine that it gets very popular later in the morning. There were lots of places to grab a seat though.
The food was very good. I spent some time in San Antonio and these are so far the best breakfast tacos I’ve had in the city and I try them all. I initially thought the prices were a touch high until I saw the tacos. They were very very filled with all the wonderfully crafted food. I should have only gotten one, but couldn’t make up my mind. The adobo mushroom was VERY good. So meaty and tender is really melted in your mouth.
This is definitely a place worth stopping in for a taco. I’ll most certainly be headed back in to try the rest of the menu. If here on a weekend give the brunch menu a try you can tell the staff puts their hearts...
