We had a great experience at the Glenn Hotel in Atlanta. The location is unbeatable. Most of the major Atlanta attractions are within walking distance. My girlfriend and I wanted to travel to the city to visit some of the attractions and get away from home. I am not a big fan of attempting to navigate into cities and find parking so we decided to spend extra and stay close to the things we wanted to do. So we drove into the city and used their valet parking. It was a tad pricey at $28 a day. I am accustom to a valet price per 24 hours so I was shocked to find valet charges for a two night stay but I didn't really mind considering everything else went well. Plus they said you could check the car in and out as much as you liked without charge which isn't always the case in city valet.
The staff was very on point. When we pulled in the garage, we were immediately assisted by the valet man. They unpacked the car for us and took it up to the room while we checked in. The front desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. He gave us directions to the attractions we planned on visiting and offered us complementary drinks upon arrival.
The room was clean and didn't have any smoke smell which can sometimes be a problem in older city hotels. The bed was extremely comfortable. The room was a bit cramped but considering we didn't plan on much more than sleeping in it, it was perfect. The cleaning staff did a fine job during our stay.
We were a little unimpressed with the room service menu. It didn't really have many room service type options for a room without a space to eat at. Things like steak or fancy fish entrees just didn't feel right to eat in bed. We had arrived on Valentines Day and hadn't planned on going out for dinner after the long drive. We were going to be simple and order for room service but the menu was so limited we decided to venture out and find somewhere with an available reservation. We did do breakfast in their sit down area in the morning and enjoyed it. I got the feeling that they had a really good restaurant and menu, just not idea for the room service aspect. Again, no big deal.
Checking out went great as well. We decided to carry our own stuff down stairs but I am sure if we would have asked we could have gotten assistance. The front clerk staff was the same from our check in and it was a nice touch that he remembered us and asked us how our plans had gone.
All in all, we had a pleasant stay. Nothing went wrong, but considering we spent close to $900 for a two night stay including valet and a little food, nothing went over the top well either that I would consider it a 5 star stay. I will say though that the weekend we stayed was particularly busy with The Voice filming in the city. Most other hotels in the area were fully booked and finding somewhere close to the main attractions was tough, so I understand the higher rate.
We would probably stay somewhere a little further from the city next time to save money, but for anyone new to Atlanta and looking for somewhere close, safe, clean, and friendly, I would definitely recommend...
Read moreLet me just start with the bad, since I feel like that what people come to the reviews for.
The hospitality at this hotel is unforgivable and is the reason I won't be returning. Aside from the valet attendants, who were all wonderful, every other person we encountered was utterly rude.
Upon arrival, the two attendants at check in couldn't be bothered from their conversation to greet us or begin checking us in. I had to interject and greet them. The person checking us in was completely unwelcoming and had the worst attitude. I also had to request our vouchers for valet and drinks that I paid for with my package, because they sure weren't going to go the extra mile to give them to me on their own.
After dinner we returned to the hotel to find an even more unpleasant attendant behind the desk. I asked the gentleman if they had a provisions area for a drink. Seemed to be the worst question I could've asked. After deliberation, he finally went into the closet and got us a diet coke and charged it to our room.
Same gentleman brought us up extra pillows we requested by a call to the desk, and threw them in the door to my husband without saying a word.
The hours for the two dining services the hotel offers are very limited and don't expect to go to the infamous rooftop if its not a Friday or a Saturday. We weren't able to use our vouchers (that we paid for) due to everything being closed at 11am check out. I asked the same unpleasant human from the day before if we could just credit our account, again since I paid for them, or even use them on the provisions in the closet (their "Grab n Go" menu) which they said "no it's only for the restaurant/bar." We ended up giving them to the very nice valet attendant in hopes they don't go to waste.
Aside from the horrible hospitality, the hotel is very nice, quaint, and centrally located to the stadium and restaurants/bars. We also were pleased with early check-in availability and a 12pm checkout option. But being raised in the service industry like myself, unfortunately you expect a minimum of decent service especially in a hotel and one with the brand of Marriott Autograph. Trust me I understand people have bad days, I even tried to kill them with kindness and ask how their days were to try and ease the tension, up until I left. No, "thank you for staying", "goodbye", in fact no words at all that didn't HAVE to be said. Unfortunately we won't be back, and if you're the type that expects decent hospitality or even just general niceness from other humans, I wouldn't suggest...
Read moreThe room was nice… to look at. The hotel decor is a vibe. It’s so moody and stylish; loved it. The downside to the moodiness of the room was that the lighting in the room was pretty dim. The light above the shower was out, which made the bathroom even darker. There was a nice desk setup with plenty of outlets which made it easy to work. There were only charging outlets on one side of the bed. The room was very small. The shower must’ve had one of the sliding glass doors broken and they put up a standard shower curtain to replace the broken side - it was functional but an eye sore. The shower itself was great - strong water pressure and dual shower heads (with one on a wand). The toilet was oddly low. 2.5 stars for the room.
Getting a good nights rest was hard. The hotel has amazing blackout curtains, which is nice because the nights were rough. The bed and pillows were absolutely horrible; both my husband and I were hurting so bad after staying there for 3 nights. There is a LOT of noise at night that lasts until about 3am. Everyone thinks they are a race car driver, there is loud music and a ton of sirens. Ahh, the city life. 1 star for rest.
The location was great. Despite the buzz of downtown ATL keeping you up at night, the location was perfect. You’re within walking distance of Mercedes Benz stadium, State Farm arena, Centennial Park, Coca Cola, College Football museum and so much more! It was great to walk everywhere and not worry about finding parking or having to Uber in slow moving traffic. 5 stars for location!
Felt scammed by liquor price. One evening we went to an event at Mercedes Benz stadium. We skipped housekeeping that day, so we stopped by the front desk to get a few bottles of water. They asked if we would like an alcoholic beverage. My husband said sure and asked what they had. There was no mention of the drink costing any time throughout the entire conversation. There had a pre-mixed old fashion. The lady shook it and poured a pre-mixed drink from a can. They charged our room $15. For a canned drink that was so awful my husband barely took 2 drinks. We stayed at another Autograph Collection hotel about a month ago and they had a free cocktail at the front desk. We wrongfully assumed this was something similar. Shame on us for not asking. But shame on them for not telling us they were charging us.
All in all, we likely would not...
