My girlfriend and I dined at Morton's this past Saturday evening. Neither of us had ate at Morton's before, although very familiar with the chain and its reputation, therefore we definitely had a certain level of expectation. Before I continue I will warn that my partner and I both come from the resturant business, my partner having 12 yrs exp and myself having 15yrs with the last 6 being in fine dining. So my critique may be a bit more detail forward than the typical review.
As I pulled up to the resturant the first thing I noticed is there is no valet parking. The resturant is on a one way street and fortunately there is a parking garage literally across the street. Mortons will validate your parking so we didn't have to pay and that definitely made up for the lack of valet. The hosts greeted me with a smile and were very professional and polite. The resturant is quite beautiful. Very dim, beautiful lighting, an impressive wine case, and a portion of the kitchen faces the dining room. It wasn't crowded at all, most likely due to our reservation being around 5:30.
Our waiter was David, who came to the table shortly after I arrived, took our drink order and asked if we had any food allergies. That was about the extent of the introduction. My partner mentioned that when he approached the table he started with "will someone be joining you?" Which is a bit off putting when you havent even said hello. I also had to break an awkward silence by intiating a hello after I had arrived, so that was a little weird. We ordered 2 Lemon Drop Martinis which were PHENOMENAL. Kudos to the bartender! We were asked if we wanted to start with any appetizers, my gf ordered the ceaser and I had the Lobster Bisque. Ceaser was great, very fresh, but the Lobster Bisque was the best Lobster Bisque we've both ever had! Juicy lumps of lobster throughout and very flavorful. I noticed that when David placed my soup down his elbows were directly in my face. Mortons may not have a service standard such as "open hand" serving, but when you know fine dining its something to be expected.
Our appetizers were removed and we did receive new cutlery but I did notice the table did not get crumbed. We split a 22oz Prime Rib and it came to the table unsplit, and there was no table side service offered to split the steak. No fresh pepper offered. No inquiry about if the steak was cooked to our liking, and my gf refilled her own pelligrino all night. Also, I noticed David often responded with an "mmhmm" instead of a yes, absolutely, or any other professional verbiage. Once again, Mortons may not require their servers to do these things, but C'mon guys white table cloth steakhouses with a $300 check average for a 2 top= fine dining steps of service. I want to say that David was pleasant and assisted us with all our needs, but at a Steakhouse such as Mortons I would expect a server providing more of an "experience" versus someone just being an order taker. There is definitely a difference between a "Server" and "Waiter" and we experienced the latter.
The prime rib was...OK. It was cooked to a perfect medium, but honestly lacked flavor. The blue cheese and truffle butters we ordered are what brought it to life. The crab meat in the Oscar we added was very dry and bland. Granted we did not want the bernaise, it shouldn't have been dry and lacking flavor.Despite seeing steam coming from the Au Gratin potatoes they somehow became room temperature almost immediately. They did have a good flavor though, and the Tory dish (sautéed onions and mushrooms) were just OK as well. Only thing that we absolutely loved were the lemon drops and the Lobster Bisque. I also noticed that we never saw a manager on the floor. Usually management would be doing table touches and checking on guest, once again missed opportunities on Mortons behalf. Although our evening was quite mediocre and underwhelming we still tipped David %18 percent, which we don't enjoy because %40 is our standard. I can only hope Morton's raises their standards...
Read moreI dine all over, not always high end, not always fast food, like to avoid chains, but do eat at them as options are limited.
I will say Morton's the Steakhouse is consistently at the top of my favorite places to eat. It is so consistent, in my opinion, across the board. Great customer service and communication. Solid atmosphere and lighting, not too terribly noisy, even when packed. Nice touches from the wine collection, "liquor cabinet", separation of the bar from dining room.
The food is where it is at.
The crab cakes are so well prepared, not top crispy, not dry at all, and a simple mayo/mustard/horseradish on the side. The salad is not overdressed or overpowering.
The Wagyu meatballs were new, the ricotta and basil pesto were certainly nice touches, would have like a little more basil pesto on the dish or on the side; there's always next time.
My wife had the salmon and king crab oscar (with asparagus) - had that on the side so as to not affect the texture/crispy exterior of the salmon - realizing this defeats what "oscar" is intended to add to - standalone as a side bite it was still nice. The bernaise, was a bit broken, but taste was solid, crab was lump and delicious, and asparagus was prepared well - I would definitely recommend getting it on the side. It's a shame to have such well prepared, crispy cut of fish topped with something that takes away from the experience.
Daughter had the filet - I recommended the brown truffle butter, which I also had some with my wagyu, as it's way more than is needed for a single steak. It was cooked perfectly, and as tender a filet as you will find.
I had off menu Wagyu, and as I typically get the Wagyu, it was as exceptional as one might expect. It was not overly fatty. The chew was not as intense as I expected, but it was pre-cut, and think it took some of that typical wagyu bite/experience away.
Smoked Gouda scalloped potatoes and shoestring parmesan truffle fries - wished there were a few more vegetable options, but carbs were in last night.
We topped it off with the chocolate cake that we shared, and is always consistently fresh as it's "prepared" for you. You need to let your server know when your food arrives or you have a 20 to 30 minute wait, but it was decadent, warm, and paired with a solid pre-prepared vanilla ice cream (would think they would also make this fresh, and served in a chilled dish to limit melting - please don't take this as a complaint - rather something to consider)
**Review from 2020 Honestly, the atmosphere was quaint, nothing over the top. Great wine list, although I don't drink. The crab cake was good, the remoulade that it was served with had a good flavor and scent of horseradish. Beefsteak and blue cheese salad was surprisingly fresh, considering the time of year. I had the wagyu strip, and my wife had the 6 oz filet, both steaks were cooked the correct temp, and the wagyu was phenomenal - not too much brown butter, nice crust on the wagyu. The bite on this wagyu was almost akin to biting into a grape, it burst with juiciness and exceptional flavor, the chew was easy. It was exceptional. The only complaint, if you can call it that was that brocolli, while cooked well, had someone who was super heavy handed with the garlic. I will definitely be back, interested in their prime steaks, with the exception of the marinated option.
I just wanted to add, our waiter - wish I could recall his name, older gentleman, guessing from Chicago or Boston - yes I know the accents are wildly different, but it sounded washed out from a few years in the south so it's hard to tell, was an exceptional waiter, and definitely...
Read moreAgain I am from Chicago IL (Lincoln Park) to be exact and Naperville IL and I posted yesterday about my DISGUSTING experience my family and I had yesterday at this location! I was unable to finish commenting about our DISGUSTING/ TERRIBLE experience so I will continue because the owner NEEDS to be AWARE of what is going on at this Morton’s Steakhouse location in Atlanta GA. 4.) The fourth complaint I have is about our HORRIBLE waitress Katie!! KATIE did not greet me or my children when she came for the table and NEVER SMILED! We requested figi water and lemonade and KATIE said they did not have figi “they only had TAP WATER and SPARKLING WATER OR LEMONADE and we have been to multiple Morton’s steakhouses and EVERY single one of the ones we been to had LEMONADE AND water besides TAP and SPARKLING water!!! I also, order hot tea and I HAVE always been bought the tea box for ME to pick my own TEA BAGS! KATIE decided to pick 3 tea bags that I did not drink and bring them to me, I asked KATIE for the tea box as I have been to multiple Morton’s locations and I ALWAYS as a customer am able to pick my own tea bags “ she blew her breath and said “yeah I’ll be right back” ( BLOWING your breath and having an attitude because the customer knows how they should be treated is UNACCEPTABLE and UNPROFESSIONAL!!! Then Katie brought the tea box out and I was able to get the tea bags that I drink!!! Then I was trying to order some appetizers and I ordered 2 French onion soups for two of my children and I did not finding them SHE WALKED OFF AS I WAS still ordering appetizers, my husband was appalled and asked if she walked away while I was ordering I told him yes and I am ready leave. We saw KATIE and LAURA talking amongst each other by the kitchen looking at our family( not sure what was being said but we knew they did not want us there because the color of our skin since we are African American. The Caucasian couple was treated nice and was constantly checked on during their visit Therefore, my husband requested KATIE come back o our table and he “ simply asked her how could you walk away in the middle of my wife ordering?” “ KATIE chuckled and said I did not not realize she wasn’t done ordering, and he told her that was unprofessional and not funny” we then requested her name and requested the manager to come to our table with our check so we could pay for our drinks and leave. She’s stated her name is “KATIE” the Manager Laura came over and told us we did not have to pay for anything and she refused to give us her last name when we just wanted to speak to the GM about our TERRIBLE experience. It is unfortunate our children had to witness for the FIRST time use being mistreated and discriminated against because of the color our our skin at one of their favorite restaurants!! This Morton’s steakhouse should be shut down and I understood why it was empty on a Sunday at 6:10pm!!! Every location EXCEPT this location Morton’s steakhouse in peach tree city GA have always been busy especially weekends!! I now under why it is slow because the people who work here example: LAURA and KATIE discriminate against black people!! My husband and I are part of Morton’s Steakhouse rewards program and as a valuable customer Morton’s steakhouse should be shut down for being so racist!! It is 2025 racist should not be happening, if I could give this place 0 stars o would. If you are African American do not go to this location you WILL mostly likely be...
