My very first visit to Krog Street Market was underwhelming. I went for the spicy fried chicken place, but, it was closed. On my list of culinary experiences to try, was a banh mi sandwich. Pho Nam, a local Krog Street Market eatery, grabbed my attention with a picture that advertised an authentic banh mi sandwich, similar to many seen on television and YouTube. I stopped, place my order, and waited an unusually uncomfortable length of time. Meanwhile, a crowd began to collect in the Krog Street Market hallway, ignoring all social distancing norms...by the time I got my sandwich, it was a disappointment. The french baguette was good, the pork was ground, the vegetables were missing in action, and the pate never made the trip to the bun. I ate it knowing that my first Banh Mi Sandwich experience would be a life long sad experience. I stretched a bit to rate my experience a 3 star...on my next visit, I might try the pho....
John 3:16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life…” Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the...
Read moreDon't Do It!! I have never left a review before but felt compelled to on this one because I was so disappointed in this meal. I'm sitting here looking at the greasy remnants of what was probably the worst bowl of Pho I've ever had (I gave two stars because the service and atmosphere weren't bad).
When I think of Pho I think of a clear, rich broth with a subtle beef flavor with hints of cinnamon, ginger and star anise. What I got was something closer to ramen broth - fine for what it is, but it isn't Pho. This broth was too salty, with such an overwhelming beef flavor that there wasn't room for anything else. If there were spices in there, I didn't get a hint of them.
But what's worse - the tiny bag of compliments to the soup was pathetic. I can't get enough Thai basil, culantro, cilantro, and bean sprouts. By the time I dumped the bean sprouts into the bowl I couldn't find them. I could find the basil because there were only three tiny leaves, two slices of jalapeno, and no culantro or cilantro.
At least there were plenty of noodles, but I spent 2 minutes trying to pull the solid gooey mass of them apart - a mostly futile endeavor.
If you are a fan of Pho, do yourself a favor and...
Read more“Pho-nomenal?” More like “Pho-nomenally bad!” Ordered the Chicken Vermicelli. My advice is “just don’t.” Take yourself to one of the other restaurants in Krog St. Market. Because I’m a “Karen,” I don’t bother to complain, and I never send things back to the kitchen, for obvious reasons. But I did flag down the order-taker, showed him the chicken, and suggested that they might not want to super-nuke it for their regular customers. Order-taker Dude acknowledged that it was completely overdone, but never offered to “make it right” or remake it — and frankly, I never trust a kitchen, once it has been criticized. Waste of $15, plus a 15% tip I added at the register before I got the “food.” But if I can keep you from making the same mistake, then I’ve salvaged something. Walk...
