After a long day of waking around, we stopped by Krog Street Market after a couple of recommendations. This is a food hall located near Krog Street Tunnel with several options. Some people quoted this as one of the best food halls in the country, but that's a huuuuge stretch (and you clearly haven't visited many if you say that). They do have really diverse offerings, which I liked, but many of the stalls were closed/gone. I finally settled on Jai Ho after walking around a couple times but wish I'd chosen something else.
Jai Ho has many Indian street food offerings and I ordered an iced chai, chicken 65 wrap, and pani puri. For someone reason the girl at the register overloaded my cup with ice and basically told me to be careful. It was so overfilled there was zero chance of putting a straw in and when I tried to pop the top off at a closed stall in front of the register, the chai exploded everywhere. I asked for napkins and since they were sopping wet, asked the cashier if she had a trash there I could toss it in. She took it begrudgingly and said next time, there's trash cans in the front and to take it there. Maybe next time you can chill on the ice and NOT overload the cup? Why couldn't you dump some of the ice or liquid instead of forcing the top on?
When I could finally actually drink it, the iced chai was decent, nothing that stood out. I probably wouldn't order it again since what I make is way better, but I can see it being popular with crowds that don't make chai.
On to the food. The pani puri was ok, it's basically store bought puri shells and items that are assembled, reminds me of the ones you get at those stalls at Desi events. The chicken 65 wrap I didn't like much. I threw it out after a couple bites. The chips were excellent, homemade and crunchy. Overall, this place is just ok. I'm curious what their chole bhature tastes like, but I wouldn't come here again if I'm...
Read moreI am so sad to have to post this. We have eaten at Jai Ho since they opened. We have always enjoyed their food. I had such an awful experience today. We ordered from Uber eats and we were missing an item. I called the restaurant and let them know that we were missing one out of two Sag Paniers. The person argued that I only order 1 three times in a row as I reviewed the receipt. I let him know that I would drive down to show him and went to Krog street market. When I arrive the individual stated that he looked at the online order noted that I was correct. At that point I stated that I wanted my money back. He looked ant me and said that he had to call his boss. He put me on the phone with him and the owner stated that the Uber driver must have stolen the order. As I tried to explain that his employee already stated that that they were wrong the owner said take it up with Uber we don’t get the money… I said that it is awful that you are blaming Uber for your mistake as he continued to talk over me. I let him know that I will just post my displeasure online. He then said he would give me a gift card which I did not accept. I’m so sad that I will no longer eat hear ever again. The food is great but the people are dishonest....
Read moreVegetable biryani seemed to have sand in it. Every bite had a feeling of something sandy and my husband and I could not figure out what it was. We have never had or made biryani of any kind with that odd sandy mouth feeling. $14 for veg biryani seemed overpriced too. Lamb kati roll was filled mostly with what seemed like spiced mashed potatoes and I think there was even cheese in there, but extremely little lamb. At $14 for that, I expected at least 50% of the filling to be lamb and not the 15% that there was. Not only did they cheap out on the meat but the spices in the potato filling were bland and not even tasty. I had a better experience at Botiwala at Ponce City Market where a lamb boti kabab roll is legit filled with lamb and costs $15. Much more value for money. The employee told my husband that the so-called “jumbo” vada pav would not be enough for one person and recommended ordering more than 1 (at $10 each) for just one person for dinner. Vada pav costs $4 at the Indian grocery store so the markup and deceitful description of the size seem ridiculous. Not...
