Against one of my other friends' advice, my out-of-towner and I made the drive, found a parking lot that offered validation, and were greeted at the door by the sounds of a live DJ at around 4:10 PM. They close at 5 PM on Saturdays, but the staff was welcoming, and the manager moved pretty quickly to get us seated. Okay, so we're off to a good start, right?
Our server immediately informed us that they were out of grits. No biggie, it's now closer to 5 PM, so we understood that pickings could be slim, we're not the kind of people who complain about everything - we moved on. My friend ordered Granny's Fried Chicken dinner, and I got the fried pork chop dinner, where we both ordered 2 sides: collard greens, breakfast potatoes, mac & cheese, and sweet potatoes.
The dishes come out, and everything looks good. The first thing I taste is my breakfast potatoes - SALTY! So I think to myself, well maybe they got a spoonful that had more seasoning than the others, let me try again - STILL SALTY! I take a forkful of the greens - SALTY! Now, at this point, I'm wondering if I have a low salt tolerance, and I ask my friend how her greens were. Her first taste, she said, they were ok, but the more she ate, the saltier they became. I tasted hers, and she tasted mine - IT'S A SALT LICK on a plate!
The pork chop was fried and covered in a lot of batter, so much so that I had to peel some off to get to the actual meat. The batter was salty, but the meat was SLAMMIN! It was tender and well seasoned (as it should be since it was coated in salt). My friend's chicken lacked flavor, but the frying on it was borderline salty, and the same goes for the mac & cheese! Both were pretty flavorless, so I guess the salt was meant to be the main source of flavor.
At one point, the manager comes to check on us, and we let him know that the greens are SUPER salty. He looks and says, "Ohhhhhh NOOOOOOO, don't say that," and says he'll go check on it. This man NEVER returned! Our server comes to check on us, so we air our grievances with her - we were served SALT LICK ON A PLATTER, where I only ate one of my chops, and the biscuit. Both of my sides were hardly touched. She apologizes and speaks with the manager, only to return saying there's nothing they can do, and proceeds to place out tickets on the table.
I tell the server that being told there's nothing that can be done is unacceptable when I've only eaten 10% of the meal, with the rest being inedible. I asked to speak to the manager myself, and here comes this chick who told us, "I understand what you're saying, but everyone's tastes are different (meaning taste buds can vary). I explain that my friend and I are not the same, so for both of us to detect over-salted food, it should tell you something. The manager goes on to say, "I can't comp the whole ticket, but I can give you a LITTLE discount on it." I ask how much of a discount? She says 15%!!!!
I look at her in disbelief and say, "You won't EVERRRRRRR have to worry about me returning, because the food sucks and so does the customer service! So she corrected my ticket, and sure enough, there was $3 discount. HA!
It was said that the seasoning could have settled by the end of the day, but now you're telling on yourself, because you admitted you're serving stale food. Either you keep fresh food ready, or you have a cutoff for when certain items are served if they're not up to standard.
I find it very suspect how we were welcomed with open arms, but staff could give a monkey's right paw about our dining experience as long as they collected their money! I hate to say this, but this is part of the problem we have with black owned establishments. Their primary concern is quantity over quality, and it's sad because I want to support, but they make it extremely hard to do.
I know they have several locations around the Atlanta Metro, but this is a TERRIBLE representation of the brand, so I do hope the management/owner sees this and makes the necessary adjustments/corrections for...
Read moreWent with my friend when I came back to town, we had a reservation for 10:45 though it wasn't that busy when we arrived and we probably didn't need the reservation. Coming in they were playing R&B, and we were seated promptly. We decided to get the biscuits and gravy as an app, since I haven't had decent biscuits and gravy since I moved out of state and let me tell you, this was a fantastic welcome back! The gravy is top tier, very delicious but the star of the show is the biscuit. They were fresh out of the oven when we got ours, but they were so soft, so fluffy, absolutely heavenly. Best biscuits I've had in ages! Could not recommend this appetizer highly enough! We'd been a bit torn about what to choose, too many good options on the menu definitely made it hard to walk away with one clear "winner", so we asked our waitress for her thoughts. Our waitress, Juice, was absolutely delightful. She was very good about keeping an eye on us, she answered any questions very thoroughly and clearly, and she was on top of it! She was incredible to have helping us, and when we asked her about what we were considering and what she'd recommend she was very good about weighing the options, giving us her input, and what difference there was between what dishes we'd been torn on if they were similar. Give this woman a raise! I got the cinnamon toast crunch French toast, which came with eggs and choice of any of their selections of breakfast meats (a very nice variety of bacon or sausage types). I got breakfast potatoes with it, creature of hubris that I am, unaware of the difference between the website picture and what I got. I thought a few triangles, but no- they come out with a veritable platter of three thickly-sliced, fluffy pieces of French toast. Very generous with the portions, a little offering of syrup, even before the two eggs and three slices of bacon I ordered with it. The eggs and bacon definitely helped, though, since the icing they use with the French toast could get oversweet by my standards if paired with the syrup- syrup was a nice offer but I definitely decided against it for the whole serving! Bouncing between the sweet and the more savory definitely helped keep it from my getting overwhelmed. My friend got the shrimp and grits, which came with shrimp, sausage, grits, and a biscuit. I couldn't try this due to allergen reasons, but she vouches for the quality of the shrimp, sausage, and grits (which they had checked on ordering if she would or would not like cheese added). Overall this was a wonderful visit, I have a new place to consider swinging by whenever I'm in town! I'd go into the Thunderdome for these biscuits,...
Read moreDo NOT GO HERE! This was hands-down the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. I came to T’s Brunch Bar to celebrate my graduation, and what should’ve been a joyful moment turned into a frustrating and disappointing ordeal.
When we arrived, the staff was initially friendly, but it took quite a while for our server to even approach the table. Once he finally took our drink orders and came back, we were ready to place our food orders. I then asked if they had bottles of champagne, and the server said yes. He later returned and told me the bottle was $50 and that it was Belaire Rosé. I explained that wasn’t what I wanted, and he responded that once a bottle is ordered, it must be paid for, despite the fact it hadn’t even been opened yet.
About 30 minutes passed with no food in sight, and a young woman came to the table with a different bottle of brut, asking if we had ordered it. I explained again that I had asked for champagne and they didn’t have any. She insisted the bottle said “champagne” on the label. I respectfully showed her the back of the bottle and explained that it was sparkling wine and not actual Champagne, which must come from the Champagne region of France. She had no interest in hearing this and instead offered to cancel our entire order because I refused to pay for an unopened bottle I didn’t ask for.
The general manager then came over, only to double down by saying that was “their version of champagne.” I explained the situation, how the server failed to inform me that they didn’t actually carry champagne, and that I felt misled. I also pointed out that I asked if they had a printed list of spirits, which they didn’t, leaving me to rely on inaccurate verbal descriptions.
Instead of trying to resolve the issue, the GM told me I could cancel the whole order if I wasn’t willing to pay for the unopened bottle. I left the restaurant, extremely disappointed. Later, I checked their website and saw that House Rule #5 states: “We do not take cocktails or entrees back. If there is an error on our part, we will fix it.” Well, this wasn’t a cocktail or entree, it was an unopened bottle and the error was clearly on their end. And they couldn’t fix it, because they don’t carry actual champagne.
The whole situation felt unprofessional, and the lack of transparency was unacceptable. If you’re looking for a place to celebrate or just enjoy good service, do not go here. I wouldn’t recommend this...
