As background, I spent my teenage years baking and cooking in a bagel shop in NJ so my standards might be higher than the average. That said, It wouldn’t be fair to list the bad without first saying what I really liked. So here it goes:
The goods: great staff. Very friendly. Service was great! The atmosphere is great The bagels themselves are very good. The everything bagels have the perfect amount of “everything”. The coffee is REALLY good I haven’t had the cream cheeses but I love the flavor options
What really disappointed me:
the only options for meats are bacon and sausage. No Taylor ham/pork roll (other shops in the area offer it). Not even deli ham. the sandwiches come standard with a spicy mayo sauce. That should definitely be an option, not on it by default. It’s not bad by any means but if I didn’t make it a point to read the menu and ask them not to put it on, it would’ve been disappointing as I’m typically just looking to get a typical bagel sandwich. I know this is Austin but not everything needs to be spicy or creative. options for cheese are limited to either cheddar and Monterey Jack. No American, Swiss, or provolone. there were some other things but I think the other points are the ones worth noting
All in all, I think it lacks some of the basics. I’d go back if I wanted something ambitious or if I just wanted a bagel with some kind of cream cheese (and that’s because I live across the street). But if I’m looking for the typical bagel sandwich (99% of the time) or more options, I’m opting to drive the 5-10 mins to other bagel shops in the area. Not a place I’d go out of my way to go to, unfortunately. With some adjustments, I think the place would be great. There still seemed to be a pretty decent crowd though so I think you guys will succeed either way....
Read moreWow. So glad I decided to try Rosen’s Bagels! We were in town (North Austin) for a doctor appointment for the Mr. I went off the Keto Diet at Christmas and fell off the wagon. I have been carbing it up and bagels seemed a logical choice! We had planned to try a new place in the Anderson Mill area, but when we arrived, it was closed for the holiday week. I was very disappointed, but started to look around that yelp reviews to see what might be in the vicinity of our appointment. Sure enough Rosens Bagels was within 2 miles of the doctors office and to top it all off, it had online ordering!!! Their system was very easy to use so it didn’t take me long to figure it out. If you are ordering bagels -you choose each individual flavor. I got a “Baker’s Dozen”-and although they were sold out of many varieties it wasn’t difficult to find plenty we would enjoy. I don’t usually get cream cheese at bagel shops but I read how delicious theirs was and that they used plenty of fresh products when they make the flavors they offer. I couldn’t resist and ordered a container of the Garlic Dill. (It is delicious!!) so well worth the cost. I also ordered an Everything Bagel and Shmear of Garlic Cream Cheese- very satisfying lunch. You can also get your bagels sliced if you choose and you can also request freezer bags ! Great options!!!! They happened to have some Mini Cinnamon Babka that day, so I ordered one of those too. Hubby said it was very good! Everything was packaged perfectly, and exactly as ordered. I throw my bagels in the freezer and usually eat one a day when I have them. These were delicious, fresh, and New York Style, which is my preference from my childhood. I will drive to Burnet Rd. to return!! It’s a great deli-bagelry and I encourage you to...
Read moreUPDATE: everything in my prior post remains the same with the exception of the ordering ahead part. There’s been a change in how their online orders are processed. So FOREWARNING if you are ordering in advance off their website know that your order doesn’t get inputted into the system until 45 mins AFTER you’ve order has been placed. It is not efficient for you to order ahead because you will still have to wait 45-51 minutes. Best advice is to go in person so that you aren’t waiting for your order while seeing people place their order (in person) and walk out with their food. I asked for an update on my order when my order was due and it still took an additional 6 minutes for it to be ready at pick up. There were 2 people besides me who were frustrated in seeing everyone order and leave with their food before their take out orders were ready. One asked for an update on their order and left without their food. I still stand by their delicious bagels and breakfast sandwiches just not on board with the waiting time for online orders.
I found this place one time when the coffee shop next door stopped selling handpies and they did not disappoint. I've gone here twice and have only tried their fully loaded sandwiches. Their classic breakfast with the sunrise sauce is chef's kiss! I had mine with avocado as my protein and the cheddar jalapeno bagel. I brought it into the office and so many people's stomach's were grumbling once they smelled and saw the deliciousness I was eating. I usually always order ahead although you can go in and order at the counter and my food is always ready and at the perfect temperature. The staff is also...
