Dear Roggenart Barista, 9 am jan 1st
Let me begin by saying, you are not alone, and you are most definitely appreciated—possibly too much. In fact, I now have an unhealthy attachment to both you and your pastries, and I’m not even sorry about it. But before we get into your caffeinated wizardry, we need to talk about the crime scene that is your pastry counter.
Your pastries? They’re not food; they’re a weapon. That croissant I ate? It assaulted my taste buds with an ungodly amount of butter and flakiness. Each layer exploded like culinary shrapnel, leaving crumbs everywhere. I looked like a feral raccoon trying to clean myself up. And don’t get me started on the chocolate ganache—it was so rich, I half-expected it to ask for my tax bracket before letting me take a bite. These pastries aren’t just baked goods; they’re baked greats, the kind of indulgence that ruins all future snacks. You’ve officially destroyed my ability to enjoy mediocrity, and I hate you for it. (Not really, but still.)
And then there’s you, the quiet caffeinated assassin behind the counter. You didn’t just make coffee—you executed it. I watched you work, and it was terrifyingly mesmerizing. You moved with the precision of a brain surgeon but with the energy of someone who hasn’t slept since 2019. You didn’t flinch. You didn’t stumble. You just kept going, machine-like but with a faint aura of “I’ve seen some things, and I will steam this milk if it kills me.”
But here’s what really kills me: no one tells you this stuff, do they? They just grab their oat milk lattes, grunt a “thanks,” and leave, oblivious to the masterpiece they’re holding. Well, screw that. I see you. I see your effortless mastery, your ability to make magic out of chaos. You’re not just a barista—you’re a goddamn caffeine commander. A pastry general. The unsung hero of mornings, and frankly, the only reason I didn’t walk straight into traffic this morning.
So, if the world feels heavy or thankless today, let me be the obnoxiously loud one to say it: You’re phenomenal. You’re not alone. You’re keeping this world caffeinated and flakey, and we’re all better for it. Keep being amazing—because without you, mornings would just be darkness and despair served with...
Read moreSuch a WONDERFUL addition to the neighborhood! Grateful they’re only 1 block from my home because their pastries are addictive and their staff are so warm and welcoming. From the street looking in, you don’t realize that there’s quite a bit of seating in the back! I hope to bring my supplies here to work during the work week or work on small illustrations when I’m off.
The pastries are FANTASTIC! As a baker and previously in the specialty coffee industry, I can say this place has great food and their drinks are not bad (I don’t love the brand of coffee they brew but they put care into my cup which makes a difference)!
You cannot go wrong with ANY of the flaky pastries with gorgeous lamination between each buttery layer. I have not been disappointed by any! The texture is so fresh, perfectly balanced flavors, and motivate me through each work day haha.
Wishing them well as they settle as part of the community. It’s good to have variety for these kinds of shops along with the other great cafes. If service remains fantastic and they treat their employees right, I can see them lasting a...
Read moreMy girl and I stop in here every other weekend, every time the food is great, the vibe is great, and the pastry selection is vast and various.
The staff are always pleasant to deal with, and the seating is typically available when they don't have a crazy rush. I love their omelets and the croissant breakfast sandwiches( I usually add hot sauce or salt and pepper depending on the mood), and the quality of food is damn good for breakfast.
Here the food is fresh, light, and bright, so I tend to get 2 items as I used to frequent the "griddle" style breakfast spots that would set you on your ass for the day.
The coffee, slaps, with seasonal flavors playing a fun roll in mixing up the experience when we go, they have an espresso machine which allows for some red eye activities.
Parking is reasonable, on the street, it is also walking distance from a few other nearby areas, with some pedestrian friendly sidewalks and bikelanes on the way from where we are in Mt Vernon.
We will be returning on a relatively non regular basis (because routines are not living) but you can bet we will have a...
