This place was interesting.. I went with a friend to this restaurant. When we ordered our food, I asked if I could substitute the Spinach in my Shoyu ramen, for something else. His response was a very short and COLD ‘no’. Which answered my question, but could’ve been a tad bit nicer. His attitude throughout the whole interaction was quite depressing. So maybe he had a bad day.
After that unfortunate interaction, my friend and I sat down, and waited for our food. The wait wasn’t long at all, since the restaurant wasn’t very busy at all. But the same man served us our food, and didn’t really seem to have much interest in making sure everything was to our liking, or going a little out of his way to see if we enjoyed our food, or had any questions. I would understand that, if the restaurant wasn’t busy and there were customers, but it was just about empty, aside from us and one other man. Once we got our food, it was quite a sad sight. The ramen was quite lacking of substance in green onions, and other “potential” toppings. Our bowls consisted of chashu(pork), wheat noodles, half a boiled egg, and shoyu broth. That was all.. I know we removed the spinach, but it was a crime to add spinach in the first place. So as I was eating, the pork was alright. It had been a little overdone, for it didn’t melt in my mouth as much as most other ramen bowls, I’ve had. And the noodles were a bit lacking in flavor. This could’ve been because the broth was not very flavorful, or very thin; if the noodles were rinsed(starch would be washed away, and prevent the absorption of flavor), or if the noodles were overcooked. The noodles weren’t overcooked, since they were very thick and al dente. Regardless, the broth wasn’t soaked up into the noodles.
Overall, the service was not the best, the food was interesting, and the environment was a tiny bit depressing because of how empty it was. The bowl of ramen was also 14 dollars.. a bit overpriced for something with such little toppings. I know of a much better place that’s also in Beaverton, with more to offer, better Chashu, better noodles, and even better of an environment and quality service. It’s called Ramen Ryoma. And the basic bowls are CHEAPER than these ones. This(Kayo’s Ramen) is probably the least favorite of my Beaverton Ramen place. Go to Ramen Ryoma, instead. It’ll be worth the trip,...
Read moreI get so exhausted trying to find a real review when looking at places. Either it's a perfect 5 star "oh my god the best food on planet earth" or someone says they'd rather eat trash. Hopefully this is a tad more helpful.
I'd give this place like, a 3.7 stars, and trust me, it has nothing to do with the service or restaurant itself. The staff are incredible and the place feels nice and open while being super clean inside. The letdown was the food, and by no means was it terrible, there's just a lot better options in a Ramen-heavy Beaverton.
I got a bowl of the Miso ramen, TanTan ramen and the Chashu taco. Starting with the taco, this was the star of the meal by far. While I couldn't really say that it overwhelming tasted like pork belly, the spicy sauce on it was incredible and the meat was nice and crispy where needed. Very delicious, would eat again.
Both bowls of ramen however, were letdowns. Incredibly sparse of included sides (no seaweed, corn, mushrooms, bamboo, anything. Just spinach and green onion) and worst of all, the chashu itself. By far the thing I look forward to the most with trying new ramen is to see how they make their chashu, and this has been the worst I've had. Dry, falls apart, no bite, flavorless, grey and just overall unappetizing. The broth was fine, but trust me when I say, get a medium or higher spice level. I got mild because I'm bad with spices, and it desperately needed more. The miso bowl was much the same, nothing to write home about. Not terrible, but nothing special. Mid bowl of ramen that costs too much.
The last thing I'll say... charging $13 (even up to $14.95 on the Google menu) for 6 gyoza is the biggest crime I've ever seen in a ramen joint in my life. I had to re-read it a dozen times before bursting out laughing. This is not a fine dining restaurant; charging $13 for a basic appetizer is absolutely deplorable. Ramen Ryoma has the best gyoza/dipping sauce pairing in town and it's $4.85 for 6. Someone needs to seriously value check some of the items.
Overall: Give it a shot, maybe you'll like it more than I did, but hopefully it gives a clearer picture on what to...
Read moreI got the spicy miso Ramen with the bone broth and pork. I was disappointed with the overall quality; noodle quality and quantity was sadly poor (look at the picture, that is basically all it comes with), pork was middling quality, and the only garnish it comes standard with is baby spinach and green onion (other Ramen places will give you an egg, bamboo shoots, jalapeño for the same price). The only redeeming quality was the broth, it was pretty good. It was about 15-17 dollars and I feel the value is really around 8-10 dollars. Unfortunately, there's just better Ramen places for the prices they charge and it's not far from...
