Don’t waste your time. My wife and I have gone to Deschutes Brewery across the street for years, and we’ve gone to Salute next door a few times and have always said we need to try this place. Today was the day. We got there about 3:30pm and were met by a young lady who told us to find a seat. There were a few empty tables, so that wasn’t an issue.
The same young lady brought us 2 waters quickly. That’s when it went downhill. We sat for over 10 min, and a couple of servers passed us a few times without an acknowledgement. About 7 or 8 young men came and sat at 2 high tops next to us, and a blonde server went right to them and brought waters. A brunette server walked past us and was clearing a high top near us and we looked at each other and I even put my 2 palms up, like “what gives?”. She turned away and headed to the back. A couple of minutes later, said blonde server went to the young guys, and started taking orders. When she got to the 2nd table, I’d had enough, and we decided to leave. On the way out I told her we were there at least 10 min before the guys, she giggled “sorry about that” and went back to the young guys. No, I’m so sorry, we’ll get right to you, nothing that showed contrition. We went to Deschutes-which was much busier, but we were attended to right away.
Considering the place wasn’t that busy, and that we got NO acknowledgment from a server like “we’ll be right with you”, it’s not only disappointing, it’s offensive. By the way, the place didn’t look like they spend much time cleaning and the music was quite loud. The fact they were 1/2 empty and Deschutes was quite busy tells the tale. They had a chance, but first impressions set our mind to never again. It’s Deschutes or Salute when we go downtown to eat. We’re not scrimpy on ordering or tipping. Screw Brother Jon and his Alehouse-much better...
Read moreMaybe stick to the burger is good advice, but not the veggie burger.
I suppose it's common for restaurants that focus on more meat based menu items to have a token vegetarian menu option so by no means is this veggie burger out of the ordinary. That said, why have it on there at all? There are plenty of other options for vegetarians, no need for this burger imo. The very attempt to try to mimic the meaty awesomeness of a burger is perhaps ambitious to begin with. Some places in town like the hilariously named Sunny Yoga Kitchen have an excellent meatless burger though. Anyway it's on the menu and I'm trying to eat less meat so I tried it.
Details as follows. The burger was unusually sweet. The bread, patty, and pickled onions were all sweet enough for it not to taste savory at all. The combination of sweetness and mayo didn't mix well. The texture of the patty was ok but kinda mushy. Flavor was somewhat bland. It wasn't mentioned that the bread was gluten free on the phone so I kind of gave it a pass but why so sugary?
I'll have to give the Alehouse another chance sometime soon because of how much I've come to appreciate their other location the Public House. If my experience changes I'll most definitely change this review. Please improve this menu option for those of us trying to...
Read moreThe food is always awesome and usually the service is too but the last two times I've been in thr girl who had helped me has been really short with me and my friends. Tonight me and my bestie came in for some drinks. The girl didn't hear my order and brought me the wrong drink. It wasn't a problem but when I asked for her to change it she started to say 'Sorry I didn't hear you' but stopped herself in the middle of that to say 'Sorry you didn't ask for that but I'll go fix it.' I kept my mouth shut but as soon as she left I asked my friend if I asked for right and she said 'Yeah three times' Then as we were trying to pay she dropped off the check with out looking at me even though my card was in my hand I tried to call after her but she was rushing to the bar leaving us to wait another 10 minutes for our tab before we could go eat somewhere a little more friendly. I've been a waitress for six years so I really try to empathize but the both experiences just left me with a bad taste...
