The overall restaurant environment was stylish and felt like a high end restaurant. The food, however, was not great, as a Korean, it was disappointing. If the chef's intention is high-quality, he needs to be faithful to the foundation of basic Korean food. It's a typical thing that can happen when the Basic cuisine principle is ruled out under the name of Fusion. In general, The prices are equal to a Korean restaurant in Manhattan, New York, and this restaurant charges for side dishes separately and by item, this doesn't convey the culture of Korean food. First of all, beef sashimi (Yukhwe) can be trusted and eaten only when the fresh meat is shown, so most of the customers mix the sauce, but the basics are wrong and not pleasing. The Rice cake must be in water for a while and then cooked but chefs did not cook it that way. The texture of the rice cake is not well done and if so then the texture, the hardness should be constant. It was not, and the sauce it was so unbalanced and lacked flavor.
The stone pot bibimbap should be cooked directly in the pot much longer than they did. It came out clumpy and displeasing to view. The advantage of pressing the rice unique to the stone pot only when it is cooked and transferred in another place was ignored. In addition, there were no proper vegetables that should be in bibimbap, the vegetables used were local substitutes. Localized food can suit the taste of locals, but this is a typical restaurant that seems to look good but ignores the basics. Koreans don't use ready made acid red bean paste sauce for Bibimbab . Good Korean restaurants don't use ready made vinegared red pepper paste (chi gochujang ) from market. If you want to experience traditional Korean food, this is not the best choice. I don't recommend it. The food is over priced, lacks flavor and not well prepared. The key to any Korean meal presentation is the Banchon side dishes even less have to be on the table, they lacked authenticity and the flair and flavor of Korean tradition was not at...
Read moreSuch a breath of fresh air for eating out in Bend! I am obsessed with this place. It's unpretentious and cozy yet still feels upscale and delivers on that type of food you want to celebrate special occasions or impress somebody who's visiting. I've seen people dressed very fancy here and I've seen people in their snow clothes coming down from the mountain, I like that it's a place for everyone no matter the occasion! It's a place to grab a hot bibimbap bowl on a cold day and its somewhere I want to go for my anniversary and order some of the fancier menu items. For my specific taste preferences this place is 10/10 on everything I want when I go out. Extra bonus points that they have a really fun drink selection, alcoholic or non-alcoholic. And extra extra bonus points for the banchan dishes they give you with your meal. I'm all about the pickled/fermented veggies and they do it so well! It's fun to see what's on the specials menu once you sit down because their specials have always blown me away on flavor! Still thinking about the meal I had here the other night.... you know its good when you cant stop thinking about it!! While debriefing on the drive home over the deliciousness me and my husband had just experienced, we both agreed this is the best spot in town right now. Thank you for...
Read moreWe were really excited to try Yoli, as there aren’t any other Korean food options in Bend.
We went for dinner. I ordered the Bibimbap with beef. For $23, I was slightly disappointed. I was told the beef was bulgogi style, but the flavor was mild and very underwhelming. The size didn’t feel too different from a lunch-sized portion at other Korean restaurants I’ve dined at in other states. We also ordered the Wagyu, which was incredible in texture and flavor. It came with bone marrow and fingerling potatoes, which were delicious. Again, moderate portion size, that felt similar to a lunch portion. But I guess it’s wagyu, which is quite expensive, so I wouldn’t expect a huge portion with that dish.
The scallion pancake was delicious. The sauce it comes with was excellent. We also ordered the octopus starter, which sadly was just one tentacle, cut up into 5-6 pieces. It was good, but for the price, you might expect at least two tentacles to be on there?
The atmosphere is interesting. It partially feels like fine dining, yet the actual restaurant appearance seems quite casual. This isn’t a complaint per se, just more of an observation.
The wait staff were excellent. Polite, knowledgeable and checked in frequently. I’d be willing to...
