I have never posted a restaurant review that wasn't positive. To date my Wife and I had eaten at the Veranda many times w/no incident. Today When I brought up to our waitress that a $3.00/3 ounce side salad with a scoop of Chicken Salad and a side roll should not be $11.38 the manager came over and said I argued with our waitress and upset her. I reiterated my point to the manager and she was indignant.. Essentially just reiterating the price insanity. I was asked if I wanted to see the owner. The owner then came over and was also hostile. I had never been treated like this at a restaurant before. They would not listen to reason or compromise or de-escalate. Their attitude was downright hostile. At that point I said we would just leave. I said just leave me the $8.48 bowl of soup, I ordered separately.
BTW, If I just had a bowl of Soup & the side Indian Salad price would have been $12.28.. So essentially if you have an ala carte bowl of Soup $8.48 plus a $3.00 side salad and call it "side salad and Soup" price goes up to $12.28. The Owner finally took the price of the side salad w/scoop of chicken salad off the bill but the experience had already been ruined. So the moral is, if you don't mind overpaying for lunch at the Veranda (chef salad $14.28 (my wife), with cup of soup $6.48, my bowl of soup 8.48 , side 3oz Summer Indian Salad with scoop of Chicken Salad $11.28 + 2ice teas.($2.75each), YOU WILL...
Read moreI’ve heard nothing but good things about this restaurant. I had high hopes as I love a good panini… when I received my sandwich I thought it would be a good idea to ask if the chutney had tree nuts.. I usually ask before I order but in the sandwich description it didn’t say anything about nuts and I was hungry so I forgot to double check. I asked my waitress when I saw her again and it indeed did, I immediately said “ oh my I’m really allergic to tree nuts; thank god I didn’t take a bite” I laughed it off as I was with a friend but knew in the back of my mind it could have turned into a really bad situation.
She gave me another menu to order something else. Nice enough but then I gently said to her “it would be helpful if it said on the menu that this sandwich contains tree nuts” she immediately became passive aggressive and responded with “most chutneys have nuts” and wouldn't even look me in the eye. No apology - nothing! Cold as ice! Even though she had several tables she avoided ours and when she had to come over she would only talk to my friend. I was so taken aback that I lost my appetite and barely touched my second sandwich. It was such a bizarre experience.
PS: I have had many chutneys that do not have tree nuts and if they did it was clearly stated on the menu. You cannot expect the average person to know the ends and outs on how...
Read moreFantastic Restaurant and Staff!!
I heard Veranda Cafe had amazing food and a mushroom soup that was awesome.
It was my birthday and my wife and I wanted to eat lunch somewhere special. It was a rainy day and we had our dog with us. We were very happy to learn that Veranda Cafe has a back deck that is covered and is dog friendly.
When we arrived they were just getting ready to open. 4 girls (staff from Veranda) came out and petted Chop our dog and they brought water for him and dog biscuits and made us and Chop feel so welcome.
I ordered a Kraft Beer and a Hungarian Mushroom soup and Monica ordered a beer and Lima Bean and Ham soup. The beer was cold and the soups were beautiful and packed full of amazing flavor. We were on cloud nine.
For the main lunch course I got the chicken gyro plate with hummus and Monica got a 1/2 turkey with cranberry sandwich on cranberry nut bread. The food not only looked amazing but was most delicious!
The food here is prepared with love and skill.
The staff here is amazing and makes you feel like you are in a great place before you even have one drink or bite of food.
This is now one of my favorite restaurants on the planet and I can't wait to return.
I've posted pics on here and I hope they will be up soon.
Don't postpone Joy - go to Veranda...
