The atmosphere at this popular cafe is lively and friendly. The energy in the room is from a mixture of regulars and tourists queing up for a simple lunch menu consisting of soups, sandwiches, salads, and deserts. The roast beef sandwich on paninni with horseradish sauce and a side of au jus, and chips, was very tasty. The hint of horeradish was subtle, just enough to elevate the roast beef. I wouldn't have minded a touch more. The asian chicken wrap, and chips, my wife ate was decent, but nothing special. It was large enough to take half of it home for a snack. We shared a single slice of bourbon pecan pie, and it was delicious. The bourbon flavor was not overpowering, but you definitely taste it. It was my favorite part of the meal and at only $5.00, it was priced right. Overall, it was a nice lunch. Our server was sweet, fun, and took care of us well. I'm not sure if our wait time at the table was unusual for this cafe, but we waited more than 30 minutes for our sandwiches. We chalked it up to the crowd. At nearly $39.00, this was not an inexpensive sandwich meal for two. But it was good. Four stars for value.

UPDATE #2: Still love the food variety and service. Only restaurant on Cherry St. currently offering on-line ordering coupled with non- contact curbside pick up right in front. Strictly follows all pandemic related guidelines. UPDATE: A couple relatively new desserts have been added......they are fantastic as a finishing touch to a great meal! Chocolate Gateau, GF Chocolate Tort, Limoncello Mascarpone. Now I am conflicted because I was "stuck" on the Salted Caramel Cheesecake,, Carrot Cake and Coconut Cake. +++++++++++++++++++++++++ I am a local resident. My favorite lunch: 2 glasses red wine, one of the fantastic homemade soups and the incredible cakes! The daily specials are wholesome home cooking, prepared with all fresh ingredients and love. I look forward to seeing the daily menu. The new local family owners as of June 2019 carry on the decades old friendly service with awesome food. A must go to if you live in or visit Black Mountain!

This is our favorite restaurant in Black Mountain NC. Always great food and good service. There are daily specials, soups, flavored teas and desserts that change regularly. My wife had a cup of soup and a half sandwich with hibiscus blueberry tea. I had a full sandwich with potato chips. Both were wonderful, and we were too full to try the desserts. We were tempted to get some to take home, but we wisely refrained after thinking about how full we were. After eating we took a stroll around town and visited some of the nearby shops. You can’t find a better way to enjoy the day!

I have never posted a restaurant review that wasn't positive. To date my Wife and I had eaten at the Veranda many times w/no incident. Today When I brought up to our waitress that a $3.00/3 ounce side salad with a scoop of Chicken Salad and a side roll should not be $11.38 the manager came over and said I argued with our waitress and upset her. I reiterated my point to the manager and she was indignant.. Essentially just reiterating the price insanity. I was asked if I wanted to see the owner. The owner then came over and was also hostile. I had never been treated like this at a restaurant before. They would not listen to reason or compromise or de-escalate. Their attitude was downright hostile. At that point I said we would just leave. I said just leave me the $8.48 bowl of soup, I ordered separately.

BTW, If I just had a bowl of Soup & the side Indian Salad price would have been $12.28.. So essentially if you have an ala carte bowl of Soup $8.48 plus a $3.00 side salad and call it "side salad and Soup" price goes up to $12.28. The Owner finally took the price of the side salad w/scoop of chicken salad off the bill but the experience had already been ruined. So the moral is, if you don't mind overpaying for lunch at the Veranda (chef salad $14.28 (my wife), with cup of soup $6.48, my bowl of soup 8.48 , side 3oz Summer Indian Salad with scoop of Chicken Salad $11.28 + 2ice teas.($2.75each), YOU WILL...

I’ve heard nothing but good things about this restaurant. I had high hopes as I love a good panini… when I received my sandwich I thought it would be a good idea to ask if the chutney had tree nuts.. I usually ask before I order but in the sandwich description it didn’t say anything about nuts and I was hungry so I forgot to double check. I asked my waitress when I saw her again and it indeed did, I immediately said “ oh my I’m really allergic to tree nuts; thank god I didn’t take a bite” I laughed it off as I was with a friend but knew in the back of my mind it could have turned into a really bad situation.

She gave me another menu to order something else. Nice enough but then I gently said to her “it would be helpful if it said on the menu that this sandwich contains tree nuts” she immediately became passive aggressive and responded with “most chutneys have nuts” and wouldn't even look me in the eye. No apology - nothing! Cold as ice! Even though she had several tables she avoided ours and when she had to come over she would only talk to my friend. I was so taken aback that I lost my appetite and barely touched my second sandwich. It was such a bizarre experience.

PS: I have had many chutneys that do not have tree nuts and if they did it was clearly stated on the menu. You cannot expect the average person to know the ends and outs on how...

Fantastic Restaurant and Staff!!

I heard Veranda Cafe had amazing food and a mushroom soup that was awesome.

It was my birthday and my wife and I wanted to eat lunch somewhere special. It was a rainy day and we had our dog with us. We were very happy to learn that Veranda Cafe has a back deck that is covered and is dog friendly.

When we arrived they were just getting ready to open. 4 girls (staff from Veranda) came out and petted Chop our dog and they brought water for him and dog biscuits and made us and Chop feel so welcome.

I ordered a Kraft Beer and a Hungarian Mushroom soup and Monica ordered a beer and Lima Bean and Ham soup. The beer was cold and the soups were beautiful and packed full of amazing flavor. We were on cloud nine.

For the main lunch course I got the chicken gyro plate with hummus and Monica got a 1/2 turkey with cranberry sandwich on cranberry nut bread. The food not only looked amazing but was most delicious!

The food here is prepared with love and skill.

The staff here is amazing and makes you feel like you are in a great place before you even have one drink or bite of food.

This is now one of my favorite restaurants on the planet and I can't wait to return.

I've posted pics on here and I hope they will be up soon.

Don't postpone Joy - go to Veranda...
