Good Beer, good food, lost dessert and service lacking. Two stars is only because the food and beer meet our expectations.
Two beers, I got started with the first being when the place was slow and the 2nd was when I got my food after being 50% done eating. Someone took the order, someone else delivered the food and someone else delivered the 2nd beer.
It seems west of the rockies, service is not one of the leading factors that are important for a restaurant in this part of the country. This is from a guy that has work traveled for the last 24 years from coast to coast and from montana down to texas.
Should you have a question of my comparison for this is that I spent 2017 Thankgiving at the Bellagio in Vegas, 2018 New Years at the Trump Chicago, Benson Hotel in Portland in April2018, Crowne Plaza Seattle and the Hyatt Regency in Vancover in May2018. These kind of places know how to provide top quality service.
Food was good on flavor, temperature and quality of products. Served hot and as ordered. All ingredients were fresh on our burger and chicken sandwich. Fries were a mix of crunchy and fresh along with some other that looked like they had cooled from an earlier fry along with some limp fries that were undercooked and oily.
Both beers I was able to have, were great tasting and were something I enjoyed. I had one dark beer and one IPA.
Dessert was something we ordered, specified what we wanted, was told was on the way, then was told it would be found by the waiter and finally after 20 minutes of waiting never showed up and was finally canceled after having the item removed from our ticket. This is by far the most pathetic thing I have ever seen in my life as the waiter showed up delivering more beers for other tables but was not capable of finding a simple dessert.
Service is kind of hard to be good at when you have tables inside with a 20+ head count as well as having outside tables.
Last night and last place after a three day Boise stay, to try on our trip south back to Utah for my summer work, but for sure the worst disappointment after visting the St Lawrence Gridiron and the Bittercreek Alehouse.
Sad thing is about being on the road for the last 24 years is that 95% of most places are one time tries and this place falls in that category. A severe lack of good quality service can kill all other attributes of good food and beer.
I should have read the reviews of this place a little bit better to understand what to expect....
Read moreThe food was excellent. The only reason I left four stars instead of five was our service was terrible. We went on a Friday night and expected it to be busy and it was a little busy. We were a party of six and were seated pretty quickly. The punctuality ended there. Once seated it took some time for our server to greet us and bring water. Once she learned that only one of us was ordering a drink she became fairly salty and inattentive. After dropping off the ordered beverage we didn’t see her for 25 minutes (except for a brief moment when our drinker finished her drink and she asked about bringing her another - nothing was said to rest of us and she left quickly after the decline of more alcohol). After waiting more, we finally had to flag down another server to go find our server just so we could put our orders in. You’d think after having to be summoned (we were very polite about it) she’d at least make mention or an apology of leaving us in the lurch without a word. But no, nothing. Orders in we waited. And waited….and waited. It took well over 40 minutes for our food to finally arrive. I actually got up at one point to take a walk because I was so tired of waiting. So, yes the restaurant was busyish, but not that busy. We happened to be sitting in view of the kitchen and from my view it didn’t look very well organized. When the food did finally arrive we were pleased with the quality. Other than the pizza being pretty cold (clearly finished before everything else and sat for a bit), everything tasted really good. The crispy Brussels sprouts were the best surprise; very delicious. My husband got the TNT sando and said it was one of the best sandwiches he’s had in a long time. Plus the sweet potato fries were delicious. Overall, I’d go there again, but probably not on a Friday evening. And I’d keep my expectations really low on the service. (As a side note, I do understand that a brewery wants to keep you there so you’ll buy more alcohol and so we expected that to a degree. This just...
Read moreHalf and Half, that's the best way to describe our recent dinner, and very disappointing. We took our Twins there for their birthday and one side of the table had a great dinner, the other side, not so much.
The Good-Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Mac & Cheese, both of these were well prepared, nicely presented, and very flavorful. In addition, all the staff was very friendly and professional in their behavior.
The Bad-Peanut Butter Bacon Burger and Chicken WIngs, it's really amazing how they could fail so spectacularly on these two simple dishes. The burger was overcooked, small, dry and lacked any real flavor, in addition the bun was over-sized in contrast to the burger and was stale. This burger is supposed to come with a Thai peanut sauce and Sambal mayo and while it probably was on there somewhere, I couldn't find it or taste it. I looked, I really did, but all I could find was a small, brown smear on one half of the bun which I have to assume was supposed to be the toppings but it was so lacking in flavor it was hard to tell what it was, other then BAD! The Wings that my daughter ordered as her entree were also very bland and not cooked well. She ordered the original flavor and unless the original flavor is no-flavor they missed the mark on this dish also. It's was definitely disappointing to see 10 Barrel serve two dishes that are a staple of any Pub Menu and fail on such a grand scale.
Considering only half of our dinner was good, I would have a hard time recommending 10 Barrel to anyone. Boise has plenty of dining options that are locally owned, serve good beer and take greater care with the quality of your meal, there is absolutely no reason to go back to 10 Barrel unless they plan to make a dramatic change to their...
