Family owned and operated since 1947, Fanci Freez is an old fashioned drive-through/walk-up burger joint that is best known for its milkshakes, which come in over 50 flavors. They also feature a unique item called the Boston Shake, which is an ice cream sundae on top of a milkshake. They also have ice cream spins, floats, sodas and dipped cones. On 10/20/20, I went in to pick up my free small milkshake (16 oz.) I chose Chocolate. Jordan, who took my order and served me, did a great job. If I owned a business like Fanci Freez, he is exactly the kind of conscientious and customer service oriented young man that I would want to leave in charge. As for my milkshake, it was was everything I had hoped for and then some. It was the perfect blend of cold, thick, creamy, chocolatey but not overly sweet. In fact, I can't imagine a better chocolate milkshake. How good was that milkshake? Well, let me tell you...
As someone who enjoys premium ice cream the way some enjoy fine wine, I rarely drink milkshakes. Aside from getting an occasional milkshake from College In & Out, when I attended Boise State University in the 80s, I have only has one other milkshake since and that was in August 2015. My rationale was that I could either have premium ice cream or milkshakes, due to the high caloric content. Fanci Freez has caused me to rethink that. After tasting their chocolate milkshake, I immediately began calculating how I could begin incorporating an occasional one into my life.
I am so used to consuming premium ice cream that it never occurred to me a reasonably sized milkshake actually has fewer calories and less fat, while still providing a decent amount of protein and over half of my daily Calcium requirement. It is only 60 calories more calories more than my favorite Dutch Bros. drink, a Dutch Freeze, yet similar nutritionally, with the added benefit of having 5 times as much Calcium. When you look at it that way, it's practically a health drink. Especially if you are mindful of using milkshakes as an occasional meal replacement, instead of something to go with your burger and fries, or as dessert. In fact, I would go so far as to say that an occasional milkshake used as a meal replacement is more nutritionally sound and budget- friendly than the average smoothie, such as the kind you find at places like Jamba Juice.
I look forward to returning to Fanci Freeze to try some more milkshake flavors. High on my list are vanilla, banana, pineapple and eggnog.
Fanci Freez does a great business but they should consider doing a time-limited flavor of the month. Not only would that give customers something new and exciting to look forward to, it would give Fanci Freeze an opportunity to add even more great milkshake flavors to their repertoire. If interested, I have some great ideas I would like to share with the owners re: one of a kind of flavors that are highly marketable and unique to this area, Including one for February that is certain to attract new customers. Needless to say, I would be happy to volunteer my services as a...
Read moreWe had to wait for food and then when we got to the window we didn't get the food we had to wait over 20 minutes it won't be going back ,it let me respond to the post , but yes we had to wait over 20 minutes it was In The evening yesterday, It was also my first time going there! I was very excited, I wanted a cherry dipped cone and waffles fries , they're cherry for the dipped cone was all out I guess, so my boyfriend and I ordered two shakes and two cheese stakes and the waffle fries, it was 40 something dollars all together, and then when we go to the window they didn't have cheese steaks I guess , so we just got the French fries and shakes but my shake had coconut shavings in it !? I only got a plain strawberry shake why was there coconut flakes in it that can ill someone that has a nut allergy i was like woah who does that ? And then our waffle fries where regular fries?! I was extremely disappointed I've been working in for service for a long long time this should never happen if your out of food don't tell the customer you have it then make them wait over 20 minutes to say we don't have that food and don't put whatever you want in peopes milkshakes that's creepy and scary! I will never go back there 78 years of service? And you can't get it right yet ? Ya I won't trust eating here again putting whatever you want in some ones food ? I'm already afraid to to have people even prepare my food I will stick to cooking for myself this why there is lack of trust in the world 🌍 and I know no one believes anyone so it doesn't really matter but yes I just want people to know the truth so believe me don't believe me all and all I had a very bad experience here at this place and I was very disappointed and...
Read moreI went through the drive-thru today with my three kids. We ordered meals with spins for dessert. As we drove away, my 8 year old daughter complained that her spin didn't look like her two brothers' spins; hers was thin and watery and not as full of a container but theirs were thick like a milkshake and full to the top of the domed lid. When I turned around and went back through the drive-thru line to see what was going on with her spin, the employee wasn't apologetic. Instead, he explained (in a tone suggesting I should have already known) that it was just because the different flavors have different consistencies--some are flavored with soda and some are flavored with syrup. He was willing to replace it with a different flavor, so that was nice. But then as we left the drive-thru line a second time, I turned around to realize that my daughter's corn dog she was trying to eat had been overcooked to the point that it was a dark, dark brown crisp. At that point I wasn't able to waste more time going through the drive-thru yet again to have the poor quality corn dog corrected. So she just tried to eat it. The corn dog I had to eat was likewise not cooked properly--gooey and raw batter on the inside layer. I can't remember the last time I've purchased a corn dog that didn't turn out right--it's hard to ruin a corn dog! It's the most basic type of fast food a person can get. Really disappointed with Fanci Freez and not sure if we will go...
