My wife and I decided to head into town to give Lock, Stock, and Barrel a go.
I review places I believe people will enjoy. Although, with that said I want to ensure expectations are met.
First and foremost: Go to LSB for the steak options. There is an ol’ adage that says, “Don’t go to a steakhouse, for seafood.”
I selected the 16oz. prime rib with an asparagus side. It was incredible! Served on a hot plate of au jus, the cut was great, the fat content was appropriate, and the medium rare cook was perfection. The horseradish cream, as the accent to the prime rib was the perfect pairing and absolutely delicious when put together. The asparagus, presented as a heathy serving of small shoots, were butter basted, tender, and delectable. If you want a brilliant prime rib, there is no doubt LSB is an excellent choice. My wife chose the Black Pepper Citron Chicken with Bacon Cheddar Au Gratin Potatoes. She complemented that the chicken was moist, flavorful, and worth the price. The potatoes were fantastic, with the perfect array of seasoning to make the side stand out amongst the entrée.
Although, as I alluded to earlier, prior to the main course, I chose the Sampler Platter (seafood) as my starter. I subtracted the crab cakes for an “addition” (up-charge) of a scallops. The sampler platter off the menu comes with bacon-wrapped cajun shrimp, fried calamari, and crab cakes, the crab cakes which I chose to change for bacon wrapped scallops. Without dragging out the details, the seafood was not my cup of tea. The calamari was fine but not unlike any other, the shrimp was extremely over-seasoned, overcooked and unappealing, unfortunately burnt was presented as blackened. The scallops were over but edible. Disappointingly, the accoutrement of sauces were, to put it plainly, not great.
Atmosphere: The bar has adequate seating and is located directly to the right as you enter the restaurant. It is stocked with standard and top shelf options, draft beer options are available to quench your thirst as well. The drink menu has a satisfactory list of mixed drinks available and the wine menu is ample enough for most. Dining is located to the rear of the restaurant It feels appropriate, nice, clean. Lighting sets a steakhouse mood. The space is arranged well with both small and large booths and tables to accommodate. I would suggest calling ahead to make reservations for large parties in order to allow the staff time to ensure placement is ready and available. There is live music during the week that is posted on the LSB Facebook page, so you never miss your favorite performer, or if you prefer dinner without music you know when to attend.
Service: we had reservations, and arrived to a cheerful hostess. We were promptly shown to a table although, we informed the hostess that the accommodations at a table were too much and that we would prefer a single couple-sized booth along the wall, this was not an issue and were welcomed to change. There was no wait for our server, she arrived almost immediately. She was knowledgeable on the menu, accommodating to our requests, and pleasant. She never left us without, and was prompt and courteous throughout the evening. Looking around, all waitstaff and the clearing crew were on top of it.
Price: A “customized” starter, two dinners, one draft beer, two glasses of wine, two desserts, and tip placed us under what I’ve paid elsewhere. Although, not inexpensive the bill was not outrageous. I agree that the price is on par with expectations and I didn’t have reservations when signing. Service also demanded the tip reflected the effort and that attributed.
There is no doubt we will be back to Lock, Stock and Barrel, and we will work through more of the menu. Although, from our first impressions, I think I will take it for what it really is and stick to steaks…and that’s fair. Even though “lock, stock and barrel” might be an overstep in terminology,...
Read moreDon't let he 4.5 review rating fool you. They have 369 reviews that help dilute the actual bad reviews. They probably ask all there regulars to write a good review, and comp them a drink once in a while or something, but scattered through out, you will see a lot of complaints, mainly about the steaks for the price. Well I guess it was an off night for them. Things started out fine and actually got an affordable glass of good wine. We both ordered a New York strip and I asked for he Cesar salad. The waitress brought it out and I began eating it. It came with 2 delicious sourdough rolls. I realized that they forgot the dressing on my salad after a couple of bites of eating plain old lettuce and flagged the waitress down and asked for more dressing. With a little bit of an eye roll she went back to the kitchen and she came back 3 minutes later or so, and mind you she had about 3 tables. When she dropped it of, I asked her for another roll. Seeming surprised, she said sure I can do that. Came back with a role and asked to take my salad that I had hardly touched since I got the dressing, and I was so looking forward to soaking up the delicious dressing with the role. It wasn't 1 minute later she dropped the entree off on the small table asking if I was still working on the salad and I said absolutely so she pushed it aside and slid my plate in front of me in a hurry. Obviously she was put out at this point but I'm like, ok whatever, I am just trying to enjoy my 31 dollar steak meal with my date so I continue to finish the salad and the roll and it was good. Started working on the steak and rice. it was a large steak, took up half the plate so I dig in not even thinking about the fact that I was expecting a New York Strip. I eat some bites and it was covered in a sauce that the waitress highly promoted. It was tasty but then I realized the meat was not very tasty, it was just the sauce that got me through the first few bites. All the sudden I think to myself, i don't think this is a New York. The waitress was rarely in view unless she was delivering food and she never glanced around before she disappeared so I got up and followed here around the corner and asked her if she was sure I got a New York because it seemed like a rib eye, but actually thinking more of a sirloin. She said absolutely, but was obviously just perturbed that I would doubt anything about their service or their food. (beyond reproach) She then said she would asked the cook. I said thank you. About 4 or 5 minutes later, a big shaved head man walks up to our table and towering over me kind of leans down puts his hand together and says I'm the owner what is this about your steak. I told him it didn't seem like a New York and it didn't look like it either. We bantered back and forth about our differing opinions, and he finally said I will take it off your bill. At first I said no, its not about the money, and we bantered a few more sentences, and he said well I offered to take it off the bill, so I reconsidered and says yes please do as I wasn't going to eat another bite of that tasteless chunk of meat. Bottom line is they were so offended that someone would have a complaint or a question for that matter. I felt it was weak service at my table though other servers seemed to be paying good attention to their tables, but not only that, the owner obviously developed a quick dislike for me because I had an opinion on something. He said I was insulting him because I was complaining about the meat and its cut. Couldn't believe he turned it personal, so asked him to back up basically, I don't take kindly to being bullied when I am spending 100 dollars for a meal. I am sure some of their food is fine, but I won't be eating there again. The guy that was playing the guitar and singing, is the only reason to even think about eating their. He, Mike Cramer, was a high light in...
Read moreThey were not busy for our on time 5pm dinner reservation. We had heard/read plenty of good comments about this restaurant. But I gotta tell ya, I wasn’t impressed! They claim to have the “best” Prime Rib as the house specialty??, au-contraire, I don’t think so. I’ve had Prime Rib from coast to coast, from border to border, from cruise ships to Costco, and this was by far an average to below fare tonight. It literally had that Dinty Moore camp stew flavor. IMO, it was a stretch to call my cut tonight, “Prime Rib”. I can honestly say I’ve had better Prime Rib from Ma n Pa restaurants across the state that don’t “specialize” in advertising or making a big deal outa their dishes, and at 1/2 the price! My “standard” 16 oz cut was no where near a $37 cut! To further my disappointment, I requested a medium rare cut, and got a solid medium to medium well slice. By the time our server floated by with the customary “how’s” everything”, I had consumed almost half and left the rest. I asked her if it looked medium rare, she responded with some of it is. Being overcooked helped destroyed the flavor and definitely toughened the cut. My wife and I made this reservation well in advance and I was REALLY looking forward to a killer meal based on the advertised hype. What I got was a basic cut of roast with the same consistency and toughness associated w a cafeteria meal. Definitely was a let down for me. AND I didn’t get, nor was I offered, a refill on my drink to help wash the chew down the pipe. I even set my empty glass in an obvious location at the edge of the table hoping our server would see it, but that didn’t happen. On a good note, the salad bar, even though it’s not a true FULL compliment salad bar, was adequate and very good. I’ll thank and compliment restaurants, servers, n chefs over an extremely good meal. Credit, where credit is due…..not tonight, though. 🤨 Doubt we’ll go back, when I KNOW I can get a true Prime Rib fare that’s tender and full of flavor from other locations around the valley cooked to order the first time at a more reasonable cost.
Dinty Moore Stew is about $3 a can???? I got ripped...
