Unlike the faint smell of old furnishings that hung in the air as we walked in the employees seemed to be all new at their first job judging by the way we were greeted by the hostess and then by the way our server acted. It really seemed like they had no manager to ensure a pleasant experience by the patrons. Our server couldn't wait for us all to get settled before she wanted to get our drink order, she was just shy of being insistent so two of us from our party of four told her what we wanted and instead of waiting for the others to take a look at the drink menu she took off to apparently get two drinks. When she finally reappeared she didn't have the drinks but she started asking what we wanted to eat totally forgetting about drinks for the other two. She was also in a big rush and it really felt that way but I've no idea why because only a couple of tables were taken (we came at an off time to avoid crowds) The other folks were finally able to get their drinks ordered when she asked again if we were ready to order. We got our drinks (I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea) & I went to taste it and it was the single worst thing I could ever have had, it tasted nothing like it was supposed to and it was hard to get past the taste and swallow. She came back and I had to tell her that it was the worst drink I had ever had and asked what it was. My reply was that she didn't know how to make my drink so she made something different off the menu (she was the bartender as well as our server). I had asked her ahead of time if they could make one and she had said yes, they have a full bar so this made no sense to me. I asked her to take it away and just give me some water. Dinner didn't come at the same time for everyone at our table and when it was finally delivered to the table I found that my meal was nothing like the photo in the menu so instead of bite sized chicken I got what looked like kibble and bits sized stuff that had to be scooped up with a fork or spoon to make it seem like a mouthful so I couldn't make use of the chopsticks that were given to us. I decided to keep my meal because I didn't want to make more waves than I already had so my companions could enjoy themselves as best as possible given the circumstances as it was a birthday early dinner. Never will I darken their...
Read moreThis restaurant was highly recommended by a co-worker. Went in on Saturday, 1/25/25, around 12:30. Not very busy. Greeted by a gentleman who seated us in the last booth. Our waitstaff came to the table, no introduction. She was in her early 20's. We both asked for water. She came back with the water. She would never come back to refill our glasses. Not once. She asked for our order. Never asking if we had dined with them before, or if we had questions about the menu. By this time our glasses were empty. She did not return with a pitcher of water. We had ordered egg rolls and pot stickers. She returned to place plates and 4 small dipping containers with some kind of sauce. Still did not offer to fill our water glasses. When she came to the table with the pot stickers and egg roll, we asked what the sauces were. Her reply, pointing at them, "these for egg rolls, these for pit stickers". Nothing about the sauce, what the flavors are like. Still no offer to fill our water glasses. She did not return to check if the food items were okay, or if there were any problems. She then returned with the teriyaki chicken and pork fried rice. We asked for extra teriyaki sauce. She said they don't offer that. We asked the gentleman who sat us why they serve teriyaki chicken without extra sauce. He said he would ask the chef. The waitstaff came back, firmly place the teriyaki sauce that was in a very small metal container. Maybe 2 tablespoons of teriyaki sauce. She then firmly informs us that this not common and to not expect it next time. We then informed her there would not be a next time. She stormed off. Yes you guessed it. Still had empty water glasses. Food review: Egg rolls were very good. They were crispy and fresh. Just a bit too done(dark brown). Pot Stickers, doughy, rubbery and the filling was a bit tastless and pastie. Teriyaki chicken was a very small portion that had a corn starch flavor. Pork fried rice lacked flavor.
Bill came to 47.70. Final bill with tip, 48.00. Plus, 6.00 to park. There are several really good Asian restaurants in the Boise area. Yen Ching doesn't happen to be...
Read moreJust went here for the first time today. We showed up at 3:00pm and we were seated promptly. After doing some research, we had an idea what to expect, or so we thought.
We were greeted, by our server, immediately after being sat and ordered the rangoon as a starter with 2 sodas and 3 kids drinks. The sodas were brought out timely. We chose the Mongolian Beef, Orange Chicken, General Chicken, and Fried Rice. After about a 15 min wait, here comes our entrées with no rangoon in sight. The overall appearance of the dishes was less than expected. The orange chicken was swimming in a glaze with haphazardly, lathargic orange slices topping it. The General Chicken had little going on with no mix of spices in the sauce. The Mongolian Beef looked good and had decent color with no look of over cooking. So, we dug in. The only redeeming dish was the Mongolian Beef. The Orange and General Chicken tasted worse than they looked. The General Chicken had absolutely NO SPICE to it at all. And this was after asking our server if it was spicy because I prefer spicy General Chicken. The Fried Rice was glorified white rice with no flavor at all. We never received our rangoon and hardly saw our server for refills after we were served our entrées.
Overall, big pass on this one. The server was nice even though she was absent most of our meal. The Mongolian Beef was pretty good. Not the best, but solid taste. Just not nearly enough for family style. Hence the 2 stars. Nedless to say, We won't...
