Let me be completely transparent. I was born and raised on the coast of Florida. I grew up eating all kinds of seafood, but lobster has never been one of my favorites. Over the years, I've always heard people say that you have to visit the New England area to get quality lobster so once I had my vacation details pinned down I knew I would be on the hunt to finally find good lobster. I did lots of research leading up to this trip. The very first place that my daughter and I visited after leaving the airport was Luke's. I was excited that they offered a trio where I could get a variety of different things at a reasonable price.
Please note that this was my very first time in Boston. That parking situation is atrocious! I drove around and around and around, desperately searching for an open space on the street. I almost gave up, but I finally managed to snag something about 10 - 12 blocks away. Please be mindful of this when you visit. Parking is literally the luck of the draw. Be prepared to walk a lot.
Anyway, so finally we arrive. The establishment seemed nice. We were greeted as we walked in. I already knew I wanted to try Luke's Trio. Again, this is my first time, and I didn't know which I would prefer (Maine roll vs. Connecticut roll). Luke's serves Maine rolls, which are served cold. The trio comes 2 oz. of lobster, 2 oz. of crab, and 2 oz. of shrimp. My daughter only wanted to try the crab roll, and she said it was a 6/ 10.
Let's just say Luke's did not win me over. The shrimp roll was the best out of the trio. The lobster was my least favorite. They all lacked flavor. Maybe that's the way it's intended to be, but as a person from the South, I need flavor and seasoning. At least a little. The menu also stated that the rolls would be buttered. They were not. None of them were impressive at all. We left still on the hunt for good lobster. I believe I paid around $60, including tip for our rolls and drinks.
I now realize that I do not prefer Maine rolls. At least not based on this particular experience. It's not horrible. It's just not...
Read moreIt's unfortunate I have to write this review. We came into town friday and came to this place immediately. My husband and I ordered two trios to share. The lobster trio with the different sauce and the different protein trio. Half way through the meal, I asked for some lemon and got this lemony juice/sauce from a carton. I think this is where it went wrong. About two hours after we finish this meal, I started to have severe cramps. By that time, the only things I ate the entire day has been the trios and coffee and scone from another place. So I'm guessing whatever I ate from here is giving me the terrible symptoms. My husband was completely fine and the only thing he didn't eat was the lemon liquid thing. Im writing this review 24 hours later, and still in terrible cramps. Now I'm not saying I know for sure it is the lemony liquid thing that is giving me the runs. But I'm saying this unfortunate event happened and I'm in terrible pain still 24 hours later after...
Read moreI went here today to get a gluten free lobster roll. Unfortunately, when I showed up, they informed me they were out of gluten free buns, which meant I had to find somewhere else. While I was standing outside trying to make a new plan, one of the employees came out and said he’d called their Back Bay location and confirmed they had gluten free buns there and gave me directions. When I said I was a little pressed for time, he recommended an entirely different restaurant near by that had gluten free buns. I ended up going to the Back Bay location anyways and had a great gluten free lobster roll - highly recommend for people who want the experience but can’t have the traditional bun. Bu I also really appreciated how much the employees at this location went out of their way to help me find a gf option! Great service and food! I would just recommend calling the locations first if you need...
