I’ve been a loyal customer for a number of years until new ownership took over. This place use to have dignity and respect for their customers. The have hired untrained and unprofessional door men as unprofessional and indecent as the owners. I was there earlier tonight when an older man harassed me, a college student and yelled at me that I was a “nice piece of ass” When my friend went over to him and told him not to speak to women that way he punched my friend and when I got the door men to escort the man causing violence and harassing me they spoke to the guy for 2 seconds and told me he gets to stay because he is friends with the owners. Before this night my experiences of the be ownership was also extremely disappointing and different than how you use to be ( which was a safe, protective, fun experience ) A crack head was let in disturbing the bar and at the same time and an extremely drunk man was harassing women and was being held back from his friends from punching a woman in the face and the door men did nothing. I’ve been friends with everyone at the tam and felt so safe before this new ownership and now that I know the true nature of the new ownership I can only feel bad for them. Nobody at Emerson college, especially women should tolerate such blantant harassment and no consquences for their actions. It’s no secret everyone misses the old tam but it has gone too far and I’ll be sure to make everyone I know how awful...
Read moreThe Tam!!! Some things never change, or only change slightly. Thank God for that, actually. Some places need to remain somewhat sacred. Like the Tam. This was my grad school bar when I was at Emerson exploring my MFA. (I graduated over 18 years ago). Not much has changed since.
I’m haunting Boston this week, going to venues that have completely changed ownership or look or vibe or menu, etc., and the only thing that the Tam seems to have changed is its prices. I certainly don’t expect them to have dollar draft, and it is so wonderful to know that this Boston institution remains, with good strong drinks and a no-nonsense attitude. Don’t expect a bunch of bridal parties to come in here and start ordering girly drinks and screeching and ruining your buzz. You are safe from the woo girly parties here. Best dive bar in town!
Don’t forget it’s cash only.
Take the orange line T to Chinatown and walk. Don’t bother to park. Or drive. You’re going to be drinking anyway!
Google description says it best. No-nonsense, cash-only...
Read moreThe Tam. A bastion of hope and freedom in the barren wasteland known as downtown Boston. A word to the wise, the Tam is not for the faint of heart. It's a dive bar in its finest forms. It's got cheap beer (I recommend the $3 Amber Bach), stiff drinks, and no frills. They got big buck hunter, nudey photo hunt, and one of those new electronic juke boxes. The bathrooms aren't what I would call pristine, though I have seen worse.
The bartenders are fantastic, friendly and not afraid to sass you. Be generous with the tips and they will treat you right, be stingy and know their wrath (I can only imagine, I've never tried it).
If all this sounds good to you, come on down and check out one of the best bars Boston has to offer (downtown). If you are having second thoughts, please don't show up, I prefer it to be less...
