The Twisted Fig — Restaurant in Caldwell

Food is excellent! I've never had a bad meal here.

I'm rating 4 stars instead of 5 though, because I've had some issues here and there.

This is definitely not the spot to go if you're in a time constraint. While I appreciate the care that goes into each dish, I find myself in quite a time crunch if I come here on my lunch hour. On a typical visit, I find myself waiting up to 25 minutes for a sandwich, even when the lobby appears empty. I don't expect fast food speed, but I'm perplexed about how long it takes sometimes.

I also would recommend creating unique names for the vegan options that otherwise are the same as the non-vegan options, or, having some disclaimer to specify for vegan. It's quite frustrating to order something, not realizing I had to ask for it to be made vegan, when it's already separated on the menu. If there's a separate vegan menu, I won't often look for the same item on the non-vegan side...why would I? Now, I know better.

When things go well ordering from Twisted Fig, it's great. However, experiences like the one I had today make me hesitate to return. I hope the owners see this review as constructive criticism, because I write this with love and a desire to make this a regular spot.

Overall, the The Twisted Fig has good food, but is seriously lacking the quality management of a restaurant expecting $15 for a sandwich.

The service started poorly, no one was at the service counter for a few minutes and a simple order of one sandwich and one beer somehow was entered incorrectly.

Being expected to want to give my personal phone number to enter into their POS system just to “track my order” seems excessive.

The cleanliness could use some serious improvement. Especially given the time I went there was only one other table occupied.

Speaking of tables, the mismatched furniture seems to clash with the rest of the atmosphere of the restaurant. Though I did enjoy being able to see local artists work on the wall (available for purchase of course).

However, the use of disposable cutlery and dining for the interior dining experience seems both cheap and lazy.

But if you can get past all that, the food quality (though not the presentation, I restructure the plate before taking the picture) is good. I left satisfied with the food and enjoyed the flavors that...

I’m from out of town and noticed this restaurant had a really high rating. At first, I was skeptical, but when I saw they had a sandwich called the Optimus Prime-wich, my ‘80s kid nostalgia kicked in—I had to give it a try.

While ordering, something else caught my attention: the Crab avocado boat salad. The ingredients lined up perfectly with what I usually enjoy, so I added it on. And let me tell you… the sandwich absolutely lived up to the hype, but that salad completely stole the show. Honestly, it’s probably the best salad I’ve ever had in my life.

The staff was just as impressive—the young woman who took my order was super friendly, knowledgeable, and answered all my questions with a smile.

Don’t get me wrong, the Optimus Prime-wich was fantastic, and I’ll definitely be back to try more sandwiches. But that Crab avocado boat salad?
