We haven't been here in years because the last time we did it was still just as run down as it was 5 years prior to that and 5 years prior to that and so on back to the 80's when this place was the cool pizza joint in town and all the decor/chairs/walls/everything was new. Don't worry though--they still have the same stuff and nothing has been refurbished or maintained so it's still all your 1980's favorites. I was hoping that they were finally going to remodel since downtown Caldwell is completely revamped and beautiful but I guess the owners invested their profits in their pockets these last 30 years. Pizza was done within 20 minutes so that was good. They have a ton more shiny and flashy arcade games to hang out with the Donald Duck ride now but that just makes everything else look more dingy and run down but to each his own. I eat pizza with a fork and knife because, according to my husband, I have no idea how to eat pizza so when I picked up my knife and noticed it had something gummy on it I took it to the front to exchange. No big deal. I was a server in a busy restaurant for years--silverware doesn't get cleaned by the machine very well sometimes, it just happens. But no. Apparently this does not happen in their restaurant. When I asked to exchange it the girl inspected it first, walked away still inspecting it and came back with a new knife while still inspecting the old one. She was much more concerned about this than I was. So I showed her on my new knife where to look on the gummy one she was holding and she made a vague attempt to see it, couldn't and put it out of sight presumably to add back to the clean pile once I was gone. All you do is smile, say "okay let me get you another one" and exchange knives but if you want to play Inspector Gadget then be my guest. Back at the table I serve a slice to my son and one to myself. I cut one bite off the tip of the slice and I kid you not a tiny sugar ant crawls from the underside of my plate to the top of the plate before my hungry eyes. Now what the heck is this about. It's one thing to WONDER what the back of house must look like when your dining area is dingy, dirty and run down but it is completely different to have the restaurant secret crawl out and greet you. So I took my plate to the tall blonde woman behind the counter, show her the ant and she BLOWS IT OFF ONTO THE FLOOR without so much as a foot stomp to finish it off or a blink of surprise and asked me if I wanted another plate. What? I was so shocked that I just went back to my husband and told him to go talk to them so I wouldn't unintentionally give THEM bad customer service with what was about to come out of my mouth. By this time all the 6 or so women working have heard the news and are having a frowning competition with one another trying to see who can look at us more disapprovingly as if we were the ones who served them an ant on their plate. There were other unknowing victims walking in to be seated so we were quietly given a full refund in cash with as little eye contact as possible. The biggest problem with this whole experience was not the ant or the knife but the customer service. Okay and the ant. Because you KNOW that sugar ants are a pain and probably all over that plate storing area and who knows where else or what else is living in Keystone with them. And then not once was there an apology, for the knife or the ant. Who doesn't know how to give a fake I'm-saying-this-because-it's-customary-to-say-and-I'm-expected-to-even-though-I-don't-mean-it apology? Three different women were involved with the ant, the refund and the knife and not one of them gave an apology. And that's the story of the last time that we ever went to...
Read moreMy husband and I visited Keystone Pizza on Monday of this week. We had worked a long day helping his father with his cattle and really looked forward to sitting down and enjoying some great food (my husband had been raving about Keystone for months and I had yet to try it out). It was late, about 9:00, but we looked it up and the hours stated it was open till 10:00, so naturally we go. By the time we got there it was 9:25, we entered to building and were greeted by the employee at the register and she proceeded to say that our order would need to be carry out because "the dining room closed at 9:30." Past tens. looked at my phone, noticing it was before 9:30, then checked the clock on the wall (giving her the benefit of the doubt, thinking that the clock may have been fast) but it said 9:25, just as my phone did. Now, I understand; I've worked at restaurants in the past, when you start cleaning up shop you hope and pray that no one comes in before the dining room closes. But regardless of how you feel, if a customer comes in interested in purchases from the restaurant, you ought to let them do so, ESPECIALLY if they arrive before the closing time. I get that this is inconvenient, but it is also disrespectful to prematurely kick them out. This employee bent protocol to her will and it was not professional by any means. My husband and I were exhausted. We wanted to sit down to a nice meal. We counted on it. The meal we got to-go was delicious; this review is in no way to bash the pizza. It held up to the reputation, but the laziness of the employee tainted my first experience at this establishment, and I can't say for certain that my liking the pizza will outweigh the fact that I was rushed out the door when I had every right...
Read moreI can't knock the pizza at Keystone because it's always delicious, but customer service and atmosphere suck!. We went in on a Saturday and over 90% of the tables were reserved. That was fine, but the reservation time was for much later than when we were visiting and there was no reason it couldn't have been open for other diners until closer to that time. We had family visiting from out of town and was really looking forward to sitting by the windows to give them a good view of downtown Caldwell's new facade. When I asked the girl at the front desk about it she was extremely rude about it and said no. We wound up having to sit with another family at a long time in what passes for their "arcade". It was very distracting and loud, we couldn't have a conversation at all, the pizza took forever (almost an hour) to be delivered to our table and by then, we'd pretty much lost our appetites from the moldy, smelly carpets and general rundown looks of the place. We won't be back until some improvements are made in the building and...
