Have driven by this place The Hickory Pit many times as I live just around the corner. Decided to stop in with a friend today expecting a nice meal. I've never been so disappointed in a meal in years. For starters, the place has the most depressing atmosphere and hasn't been updated since what appears to be 1980. The Windows and blinds look like they haven't been washed in a decade and the entire ambience is just very depressing. I commented to my friend that this is where people go to die. The service was terribly slow and only two other people were eating at the same time. My order was incorrect and I had to wave down the waitress for water refills and I didn't get correct change on my ticket. When it comes to a good place to eat, it isn't just about the food it's also about presentation and first impressions and this place should have paid me to eat there. Notice I made no review on the actual food because it was not noteworthy in the positive or the bad. It was very very BLAH. Avoid at all cost and save your money. This place has been around for years so it has its loyal followers who over the years probably have not noticed the gradual decline in quality. Kind of like how we don't know how much we have really aged until a little kid opens his or her mouth and tells us one day how old we look. We won't hear from family because they see us everyday so they're too blind. Take it from a fresh perspective and just go somewhere else. Oh and the peach pie was nothing to write home about. The only thing special about this place is that somehow...
Read moreWe were greeted by a young man. He was nice and seemed helpful. He asked if we wanted a table for 5 or a booth. Being that we are all taller and larger, we asked for a table. He escorted us to the back of the restaurant. We walked past 4 filled booths and couldnt help but notice that all the patrons were "white". We got to our table and a waitress yelled across the restaurant " hey, who is gonna be the server there?" That was embarrassing and not professional to say the least. We told the young man, can we sit here... we don't want u to get in trouble? Seems like she dont want to serve us. He said, it's ok... someone will be with u in a minute. 15 minutes later, the waitress finally comes over and says... "alright, what do u want to order." We didnt like that. We asked for a few more minutes. She walked a away and we all walked out.
This was the second time ...wanting to try this restaurant out. Again, we were seated and left for a long time in a non crowded restaurant. This was the second time we walked out. Not sure why in both visits we were left at our table for a long time. Just a side note, both visits, all patrons were older, and white. We are a brown skinned Mexican Family. I sincerely hope that is NOT the reason we were not served in a timely matter. Needless to say, my family and I will not go back. Lost good patrons. Poor customer service. At 7:20 pm on a Saturday Evening. Cooks were standing around doing nothing ... waitress talking to another waitress. The young man who greeted us was the only one trying...
Read moreHaving lived in the area all my life this used to be an all-time favorite place for me and my son. Unfortunately it's Under New Management and the place is not the same. Change is usually good but not in this case. Upon entering seated and barely looked at the menu before the waitress came up and asked me if I was ready to order I told her no not yet. A few minutes later she came back again and asked me if I was ready to order again I told her not yet. She did this a third time at which point I asked her if she was in a hurry or something. Then it got worse... I was asking about adding an additional side like a salad to my meal to which I was told it was going to be $5.50 extra. I questioned that because it said in the menu for dollars to add an additional side. The waitress did not know the menu and it actually brought it to the manager who was the one that said it was $5.50. Then when I asked what was on the salad I was told it was just lettuce and croutons. She said Tomatoes would be extra but I had no idea that it was going to be an additional $2 extra for two slices of tomato!! When I expressed my surprise with this and told her I was not interested in having a salad, the manager came over And proceeded to tell me I could leave if I didn't like it. I'm praying that the food will still be good, but the service is not something to come in for it all. I'm only staying cuz I'm hungry. I don't recommend this place as a prices are high and the...
