How can any place called The Goods have anything other than good stuff inside? Well in this instance, it can't, & doesn't.
If you've read any of my reviews, or seen some of the pics I post, you can figure out I have a Major League sweet tooth. I'll have to chalk that one up to genetics & both sides of the ole family 🌲. What I'm trying to say is, why fight it? Bring on the sweet stuff, just within moderation- say maybe once a week!
I like the Goods, because you can get an amazingly different-than-the-norm, mondo donut, or croissant or cruffin here, as well as something rich, bold and satisfying, to wash it down with. Luckily for me, they serve espresso coffee drinks here, & I like them, to go with my baked good choice, because you get an extra pop of caffeine & rich flavor from them. My days of drinking Folger's Instant crystals, or even Yuban, have long since passed me by. Americano coffee, with 2 espresso shots, is my choice of late. In wine tasting vernacular, it pairs well with my 😋 goody pick O' the day.😂
Now speaking of my favorite baked goods here, my #1 pick is The Goods' Pistachio Cream Croissant. Though not technically a donut, it's something to cherish 10X more! These are large, light & flaky croissants, which are filled with a luxurious pistachio cream in the middle. Bright green Pistachio chunks & dusted powdered sugar crown the top. I was told, on 3/9/23, by one of the employees working here, that the Pistachio Cream is not currently being made right now. He told me that it was a seasonal item. That said, The Goods is always coming up with something unique & tasty to try. When we came here, on 3/9/23, they had a new doughnut in the case, their Carrot Cake Doughnut. We bought one, & the verdict? Two 👍👍! Fresh whipped cream-topped light doughnut, with all that good carrot cake flavor.
My next craveable fave here, are The Goods' Boston Cream Donuts. These hefty & gooey chocolate-covered donuts are made here daily, with the exception of Monday, when they're closed. The top 3/4 is lathered up with rich chocolate, lovingly-sprinkled with powdered sugar, so that really doesn't leave you much to cleanly grab it by. There's no way to daintily put one of these down, so do yourself a favor, & grab lots of napkins. Between the chocolate transfer, to both your face & hands, while attempting to devour these chocolatey, pillowy- soft, & creamy baked treasures, or all that cream in the center, that could come spurting out anywhere, it's better to eat this one seated at a table. You better have those napkins at the ready, too.
Everybody has their donut/baked good favorite, & these are mine here.

Read moreI am giving this a 4 based on my husband's vote. I actually thought a three or three and a half was appropriate, based on flavor, but adding in service and ambiance gives it a boost...The shop is really cute nestled in the Village in Carlsbad. The decor and feel matches the 1920's building, which is fun. The donuts look beautiful in the glass- the colors and sheen of the glazes are really exciting. We got 1 of each kind, which at $3.50-$4.00 each, well, that's more than I spend on my clothes. We took our precious box of beautiful doughnuts home, as indoor dining has been eliminated. We cut the donuts into sample bites and dug in. My favorite was the dulche de leche. It is a nice cakey donut with a carmely tasting glaze that wasn't too sweet or salty. We went onto the plain glazed with sprinkles, chocolate ganache, some really sour pink one, and then onto the creme filled-Vanilla and nutella. Upon cutting them open, there was really very little cream. This turned out to be my son's favorite, because everything else was just soooooooo sweet. We sliced into the lemon berry, which in contrast to the creme filled, was overloaded with berry-lemon filling. I really wanted to love it, but the sweetness made my teeth literally ache. I could hear them begging to jump out of my mouth. The chocolate ganache and Boston creme were both good. Tasted just like they should. I was really excited for the Cherry pop donut, which was fun because it is served with popping candy, but other than that was just another nicely textured raised donut with a really overly sweet glaze. So my review- the donuts look really fun and taste fine. The glazes are too sweet for my personal taste, however, maybe if I was just having a bite of one donut.... The customer service is fantastic. The staff is very friendly and patient despite being swamped with customers. They did an excellent job of keeping people spaced due to COVID. The decor and presentation is also fantastic. I just wish I was a more impressed with the flavors. I feel that the excellent texture of the cake was lost in the excessive sweetness of the various glazes. This is a great place for overall experience and a sweet treat that will make any kid's eyes pop. Just doughnut alone, it's fine Oh- gluten free and...
