We were celebrating my wife’s birthday this evening with our best friends. After our escape room adventure we were so hungry that I was contemplating eating my steering wheel. I whipped out Yelp and started looking for something that might wet my whistle. We found Calle Sol and I felt the gravitational pull of fried Yuca pulling me in. After a short hop and a skip by the vagrants and street walkers of Charlotte we ended up in South Park. My heart sank when I realized it was attached to a hotel as I reminisced about all the horrible hotel restaurants I had been to. Then we walked in. The friendly hostess told us we came at the perfect time with no wait. The atmosphere was perfect. I felt like I was in a chic Miami cafe. One of the staff members had a wicked mullet that reminded me of a Colombian gangster from the movie Scarface. We were greeted by Henry who would be taking care of us for the evening. He was kind, knowledgeable, and had an awesome tropical shirt that made me want to swing by Tommy Bahama and get my own. He gave us a detailed breakdown of the menu and cocktail options. The drinks were fantastic, and the bartender clearly cared. I gulped my pisco sour down quickly, only briefly interrupted by the arepas and hot dog fries. We were so excited by the drinks and appetizers that we ordered an extra entree just to try more food. As I sit here writing this review I know in the morning I will be creeping down the stairs to the leftovers praying my wife doesn’t wake up to catch me. The entrees were so delicious that my taste buds climaxed like a early 2000’s late night Cinemax actress. I haven’t had service or food this high quality outside of Charleston. I can say that Henry is an asset to this restaurant group. We were so full when we were done that standing up felt like getting out of the car at a rest stop after driving for eight hours. Best dining experience I have ever had in the Carolinas. I thought I couldn’t be any more full, when Henry treated us to the banana tres leches for dessert. I gently unbuckled my belt as I pushed through the finish line of dessert. Kudos to the hostess, bartender,...
Read moreMy family and I recently dined at Calle Sol Latin Café & Cevicheria, and while the food was exceptional, there were some service-related issues that have left us hesitant to return.
We ordered the ceviche, beef lomo, and lomo de pobre, and all of the dishes were flavorful and expertly prepared. The food alone is deserving of high praise. However, our dining experience was impacted by several shortcomings.
Throughout our visit, many items we requested were unavailable. For example, when we asked for a second lomo de pobre to-go to take home, we were informed that they had run out of steak. We also tried to order flan, which was unavailable as well. Additionally, we requested seasoned fries—the same ones served with the lomo de pobre—and were willing to pay extra to have them as a side. However, our waiter, James D., declined, explaining that the fries could only be served as part of the full meal. When we then attempted to order another lomo de pobre, this is where were told that they had run out of steak entirely.
At this point, we felt that some effort could have been made to accommodate our request for the fries, especially considering we were willing to pay for them. Unfortunately, our waiter offered no alternative solutions and appeared unwilling to find a way to address our requests. From a business perspective, this rigidity can lead to missed opportunities for customer satisfaction and additional revenue.
In summary, while the food at Calle Sol Latin Café & Cevicheria is truly outstanding, the service did not meet expectations. Regrettably, due to these service issues, my family and I will not...

Sophie was so dope and kind and went through the whole menu for us. Definitely ask for her! She provided exceptional service throughout the meal. Her attentiveness, friendly demeanor, and deep knowledge of the menu made our experience seamless and enjoyable. She ensured we were well taken care of and made thoughtful recommendations.
We started with the shrimp ceviche, which was fresh, zesty, and beautifully presented with Peruvian corn, plantain chips, and a hint of heat from red chilies. The yuca fritters were another highlight—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and complemented perfectly by the dipping sauce.
The chaufa (Peruvian fried rice) was bursting with flavor, showcasing a great combination of vegetables and spices. We also tried the cilantro chicken soup of the day, which was aromatic and comforting, featuring fresh, wholesome ingredients.
For dessert, we indulged in the banana tres leches, which was the perfect ending to the meal. It had just the right balance—not too sweet, with the banana flavor adding a delightful twist to the classic dessert. A must-try!
