Read moreVery impressed with our dinner at Conga Latin. Located on Main we were looking for something else besides gastro pub fair and this Central American establishment did not disappoint. First get the Guac. It's made with huge chunks of fresh avacado, served with house made tortilla chips and plantain chips. Really some of the best guacamole I've ever had. Then we selected dishes from El Salvador and Mexico. The papusa was a highlight as was the chorizo. Also excellent soft warm sweet plantain chunks and tostadas. Everything very flavorful and huge portions especially for the price. We left full and happy. Really, the only reason this is not five stars was the lack of any atmosphere. The cheap plastic floor lamps (one was broken, or assembled wrong causing light to glare into a booth) and no real style to speak of made us think the place might be closed and won't encourage you to linger. Some better lighting, a more intimate booth layout, and music would put this place over the top. But don't let that cause you to miss out on a absolutely fantastic food experience,...
Read moreFirst Latin food (though it more like an El Salvadoran) spot; and I can’t wait to go back again.
Pictured:
Cebiche with white fish, reasonably priced, fresh, citrusy, and about the kinda fresh of a fish you could get in a landlocked area like Chattanooga. The chips were more than enough, I recommend ordering this to share, I shared it with my alter ego, she loved it; she doesn’t really know too much about fish, unless it’s bad; then she knows.
Their classic pupusa, with cheese, beans, and pulled pork. This is the El Salvador dish, and it shows. Possibly one of the best pupusas I’ve ever had; I can’t wait to try all the other types they have. They usually come in orders of two, I got only one; did not share with alter ego; she getting kinda phat.
Alter ego loved the mango salsa and thought the habanero wasn’t that spicy. Her name is Shego btw, because wherever I go, Shego.
