Closest to authentic Taiwanese "snacks" and bubble tea that you will find in Chicago! Not only is there an expanded food menu (see my pics attached) compared to the food court location, there are also table and "bar" style single seats. Those who know and love Hello Jasmine already know their bubble is awesome, so I'll highlight some notable eats below:
Braised sliced pork (pork belly) with a little minced pork (juice) over rice served with Taiwanese salty pickled veggie, braised soft tofu, and bok choy. Flavorful, tender, and generous portions!
Grilled chicken steak: love the Taiwanese style "breading" and you can customize how spicy you want it. Truthfully, Taiwanese spice isn't too bad, so don't be afraid! It seemed a little fried but they call it grilled.
Popcorn chicken: YASSS FINALLY someone got the breading texture, salt/pepper mix, and tenderness RIGHT on for Taiwanese style! Definitely a must try!
Grilled tofu with Taiwan kimchi: firm tofu with braise sauce, slightly crispy on the outside, with sweet vinegar style...
Read morethis is my new favorite restaurant. I ate there yesterday. I had the tofu kimchi bento box. they had initially misunderstood my order as just tofu kimchi. When I brought this up, they quickly corrected things free of charge.
the bento box was delicious. I was hitherto quite unfamiliar with taiwanese street food. even so I could tell that the meal was prepared with care. some kimchi, some white rice, six pieces of fried tofu, some pickles and vegetables, a delicious marinated soy sauce egg; they used fine ingredients, neatly arranged. the whole thing came in really cute cartoony packaging to boot.
I also had the brown sugar bubble tea. didn't overdo the sugar; the pearls strike the perfect balance between crispiness and chewiness. easily the best bubble tea I've had in the chicago area.
my main drawback is that the meal took a good bit of time to prepare. but it's only right that such a well-run establishment should enjoy a prolific stream of business. I will definitely be...
Read moreI am giving 5 stars because I love Taiwanese food and when it’s good, they’re really good but have to note that the consistency is a real problem! Some days are really good and everything is perfect, other days are hit and miss with various items. One day it was terrible, everything was an issue. There was barely any boba is my boba tea (usually I have left over boba in any place I order yet there was no more boba when I still have half the tea left and that never happens to me). Also, the braised pork rice has so much fat (which is ok when normally they are soft and melts in your mouth) this time and was undercook which makes it super chewy and gross… had to pick it all out. The rice was also like a lump of goop which is kinda gross as opposed to pieces of rice…. Sigh… I really hope someone doesn’t try first time like what I had this time… I’d order again but I’d prob order more frequently if the...
