The corn dogs are good but I would recommend minor changes. The fry and crispness on these dogs are amazing! The amount of cheese inside the full cheese or half and half is entirely too much. Like constipation levels amounts of cheese. They don’t skimp I will say that, but it’s too much cheese for my liking. Also the half and half should have the cheese and dog split vertically in half and attached to each other. This way you would hot dog and cheese in every bite. Currently Having it so that you’re eating a cheese stick first and then a corn dog at the bottom didn’t make too much sense to me.
The boba was great and needs no changes. The side sauces on the other hand need to be reworked completely and are entirely too sweet. The Thai chili sauce tasted like eating pure sugar. These should be savory sauces. All the current sauces have extremely high levels of sugar and sweetness in them. Even the spicy mayo had sweetness and sugar in it which was completely weird. The saltiness of the dog helps cut out the sweetness but you shouldn’t have to depend on that. If you get a full cheese or half cheese then none of the sauces complement the cheese at all. Imagine eating mozzarella sticks with honey…the flaming hot breading is great also.
Make the cheese and beef half and half down the full dog 2. Take the extreme amount of sweetener out of the sauces, it’s not needed. 3. Offer marinara sauce to compliment the full cheese or half...
Read moreSince attending a Yelp Event involving the Kong Dog (Glenview) location, I have been in search of a location in Chicago. I found that this location in Chinatown and the University Village one was the closest to where I spend my time the most. After leaving my barbershop which sits just short of a mile away, I visited as a follow up to try options I noted after visiting the Glenview location.
To make this visit painless, I ordered takeout via Yelp which is very convenient when on the go. I was bummed to find out that this location does not have the whole plant-based sausage filling option as like the Glenview location does. So, I ordered whole mozzarella cheese as my filling with an original kong dog, and a sweet chili doritos kong dog.
While eating I had the biggest smirk on my face while trying not to make a mess. With every bite of the sweet chili doritos kong dog, grinded up sweet chili doritos flaked off as its mozzarella cheese filling stretched from the kong dog to my mouth after each bite. The original kong dog was sweet and good, but nowhere near the taste of the sweet chili doritos kong dog. I left the parking lot of this location with the biggest satisfying grin on my face.
All in all, I had a pleasant ordering experience with Kong Dog (Chinatown). And as stated in this review, I enjoyed my meal and would surely order from again whenever in the area or at any other Kong Dog...
Read moreWe didn't have time to sit down for a meal so we decided to hit up Kong Dog before we were off to our final destination.
Service was rather subpar with a person taking an order seeming to have a little bit of an attitude when we asked questions about the menu.
The food itself was all right. The portion size was pretty large in the Hot Cheeto mozzarella " dog" was good. The potato dog my partner had was underdone with some of the dough on the inside still a little gooey.
We also tried those Kong fries which were basically the Hot Cheeto coating on fries with a little bit of ketchup. We weren't mad at these and would get them again. You can tell the fries were just something that's pre-bought frozen but sometimes that's okay.
We were pretty disappointed that the veggie dog wasn't available, but who knows if it was just that day.
Interior couldn't use a little work as it wasn't the cleanest and it was extremely loud when there were more than three people in there due to the lack of furnishings and decor. Think of it like a house that's just been moved into and all the furniture hasn't been put out yet except this business has been in the area for a while.
Probably wouldn't go back again unless we were in a rush to get somewhere and wanted...
