So we were doing a road trip and decided to stop in Cincinnati for a night (August 1, 2022) since we've never outside of passing through. We found The Phelps and thought it would be cool to stay there because of its antique architecture look on the outside. Once we walk in we were met with a very pleasant aroma in the air followed by a greeting from the front desk manager who assisted us with checking in. She and the Valet gave us some ideas on fun activities and bars in the immediate area of downtown, even walked us outside to give precise directions :). We then went to our suite which was amazing. It looked like a nice apartment. After a night of fun with the suggestions we received we got up for breakfast. We came down and we greeted by the front desk manager again as well as the Valet. We were told about the grits and how good they were. I got excited because i love grits and most hotels I've traveled to don't even serve them. I walked over to see all of the breakfast options and to my surprise they had fresh eggs, grits, vegan patties, chicken patties, and a host of other healthy options. Safe to say that out of the hundreds of hotels ive been to in the last 15 years that by far, hands down was the best breakfast I've ever eaten. Everyone was delightful that we encountered. Whenever we come to Cincinnati again that will be the only hotel we...
Read moreHad a party here and it was an amazing atmosphere, but the staff, planning, and management were awful. First, ran out of food where 3/4 the party didn't eat when the guaranteeded for 20+ what we booked for. You'd think a party they'd be able to help with more food for an additional charge, bur instead they refused to help. Paid for premium alcohol option and the bar was making cocktails with well liquor anyway. I expect if we pay for that liquor the bar tenders won't try to rip guests and hosts off with cheap alcohol. Had no respect for the actuial agreement and still tried to get tips from guests when we paid a premium tip when booking. Additonally, items were stolen and thown away the next day before we could pick up from front desk. When I asked if we could look and check the area the front staff refused and were extremely rude about the whole event.
I would say cool for a bar, but for the price they charge for events it is a scam. Don't work with these planners and guests I still am fighting these terrible people tooth and nail about this months later. Had I known this I would of done it...
Read moreThis is a nice tucked away place in a hotel lobby, or outside, to do a little people watching and enjoy some drinks and apps after work. It's also good for a couple people or a small group.
Their prices are a little nicer than a normal bar. $8 for wine and $8-$14 for apps. They have different drink specials through out the week as well. I went on Wine Wednesday, where a glass is supposed to be cheaper. I was never charged the cheaper price even though i ordered well into happy hour but didn't cash out until after. I ordered 2 apps that took way too long to come out in a not so crowded bar. The waitress was super attentive to me until i ordered and then it all went downhill and never really saw her again even though I asked for an app menu. So I'd probably give it a solid 3 even possibly 4 stars but the service was lacking that day. It's a good thing i was there for a meeting an hour early, since my food didn't come until after the meeting started.
but it's a nice place not too stuck up and is nice and intimate if that's what you're looking for with a few big table...
