I am typically a pretty easy person to please; but, I was grossly disappointed with this place. We celebrated my sister’s birthday here and had a large party gathering of 21 people. I checked the menu on my way as I normally do beforehand and had settled on the French Dip. Once we arrived, we were directed by a group of cordial waiting staff who promptly tended to our group. The atmosphere was clean, relaxing, and inviting. The alcoholic beverages were decent, a few were poorly mixed. The server was very kind and faithfully executed his job! I would have liked to have seen him have extra help because 21 people kept him busy. When it came time to order, we were informed that they were out of the French Dip. So as an alternative 3 of my family members—who wanted the French Dip—substituted their order with the Herbie’s Burger. We asked the server if the kitchen would make an alteration to the burger to mimic a French Dip, which they said they would not accommodate the request. Now, while it may be their policy—I respect rules and believe those rules should be adhered to—I have not known a restaurant that did not make adjustments to accommodate the requests of the guests. Additionally, I ordered the French onion soup and a side salad to accompany the burger. When the food was served I was excited and ready to enjoy the what my mind had hoped would be worth the money I was about to spend. Sadly, the burger lacked flavor and was pretty bland. My wife baked and decorated a cake for my sister’s 30th birthday we were there to celebrate. The staff was accommodating and provided plates and silverware for us to serve the cake. While we were enjoying the best part of our experiences, the server advised my brother in-law that by company policy he was going to charge him $2.50 for every person who ate the cake as we did not purchase their deserts. Management advised this was written in their policy and someone should have previously advised us prior to serving the cake. Once again, I am all about adhering to company policy; however, that does not change the fact that I believe the company should reimburse my brother in-law for failing to advise us against serving the cake due to policy. All in all, I have had better quality cuisine at cheaper establishments that were worth my time and currency. It may be overpriced due to the location being in Clayton; but, I do not desire to return anytime soon. It may be low of me to give a poor review of an establishment after a single visit; however, first impressions reap...
Read morePosting after my husband who explained our time here well. My personal complaints, (coming from someone who has worked in the restaurant industry) I asked for a mojito and was told they were out of mint, no big deal I’ll order an amaretto sour. My drink was 80% lemon juice and really didn’t taste amaretto at all. I then ordered a Saronno which tasted like straight shot of bourbon with egg white on top. When it came to ordering a lot of us ordered the French dip. Which when your prices are either $19 for a burger or French dip then $36 for a linguine with chicken with nothing in between, you’re going to have multiple orders of one item. Almost half of our group of 21 ordered the French dip and then were told after placing orders they were out of the French dip. This was a fail on the establishment when placing ingredient orders knowing in advance of a large reservation. I asked to substitute the condiments on the burger for horseradish mayo and caramelized onions to mimic the French dip to which I was told without hesitation “no the kitchen will not do that” yet it was less condiments that came on the original burger. To not even ask for substitutions is an error on the waitstaff who clearly was overwhelmed. No idea why you would not provide at least who waitstaff members for a large group. Describing the burger is as easy as saying McDonalds Burgers have more flavor than what was provided at Herbie’s.
Most disappointing part of the night was the extra charge for the cake I brought. I know restaurants tend to charge for food brought in which is typically a charge of $10-$20. I bake for a hobby so I had no issue telling my brother in law to save some money and I’ll provide the dessert. When it came to cake time we were told we could not have a knife to cut but yet they would provide plates and extra forks, make that make sense please. Instead of a flat charge for bringing the cake they charged for 21 cake cutting fees. So each member of the party was charged a cake cutting fee that they didn’t provide service for other than a stack of plates that was dished and served by members in the party.
I will not go back to this restaurant. Bland food for the price, lack of options, terrible service, shortage of ingredients, and inconsistent...
Read moreMe and some girlfriends were having brunch at the bar on 4/15/18. I went to the restroom before I left and when i returned to get my phone the bartender had advised me that it was handed to the greeter. When i got my phone it had been dropped and my screen was cracked. I asked the bartender did she know what happened she stated no. I also went back to the front and the greeter said the same thing. i went home and followed up with the manager the next day. I called the next day and got an Austin on the phone who stated he was the manager and i informed him of the incident with my phone screen being cracked. He took my name, number, and email and advised he would follow up with me with in 24 hrs. After 2 days had passed i had not heard anything so i called to speak back with Austin. A girl answered the phone and i asked to speak with the manager and she put me on hold for 5 min. she then came back to the phone and asked me what was the call in regards to and i advised. That is when she put me on hold again and then came back and stated that Austin had went next door and she asked me for my name and number so that she could give it to him. i gave her the info and made it clear that i wanted to hear from him that day. around 8 pm on that day of not hearing from him i called back and ironically my call is routed to their vm. I called back from a different number within seconds and Austin picked up the phone i expressed to him how i thought him avoiding my call and not following up with me when he told me he would was unprofessional and i asked to speak to someone over him because at this time his composed attitude towards the situation was making me frustrated and i didn't feel that we were getting to a resolution especially when initially calling he seemed a little more enthusiastic in taking care of my phone deductible which was only 75 dollars. After him making poor excuses of why he had not followed up with me, not wanting to give me anybody higher up to speak with because he was the GM, and still not feeling confident that he was serious in coming up with a resolution because of his impassive tone over the phone. I simply just told him to forget about it. i will never return there again nor recommend after this...
