A Perfect Final Night in Clearwater

I chose this spot for our last dinner in Clearwater, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. From the moment you pull up to valet, you’re wrapped in genuine hospitality. The warm welcome in the lobby and friendly greeting from the hostess set the tone right away. Carmen checked us in and let us know the wait would be about five minutes. I asked if we could sit by the window to enjoy the view, and without hesitation, she said it wouldn’t be a problem. Before seating us, she personally inspected the table to make sure it was spotless—such a nice touch.

Within minutes, we were seated, and our server Gigi came by to introduce herself. She was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially when I couldn’t decide on what to order. My husband had the Lomo Saltado, I went with the Grouper (which they gladly swapped from rice to Yuca fries—no problem at all), my mother-in-law enjoyed the Salmon Bowl, and my 9-year-old had the shrimp stir fry. I usually never finish my meals, but this time, I cleaned my plate!

My husband and I chose the JW for our staycation from Tampa. Deep End looked lovely for an elevated yet casual dinner so we booked a reservation for sunset time. We were welcomed kindly and had a beautiful view from inside the dining room. Our food was fresh, creative, lovely and delicious. We each ordered one of the fish options (salmon & grouper) and ate every bite. We finished our meal with the chocolate guava cake and the Peruvian cream dessert. They were both insanely delicious! We were not rushed at all and enjoyed every minute. The manager Fabio was very attentive, checking on our experience and spending time to make us feel special. He even took a photo for us and it was the best pic of our stay! Fabio made us feel like VIPs and treated us like we were regulars. We can’t wait to enjoy another dinner there sometime soon. During our stay we also enjoyed food service from Deep End while lounging just outside on the rooftop pool deck. Rachel was our server and she was outstanding and attentive. Two visits in three days left us in purgatory. We returned for the Peruvian / Asian dishes. Bao tacos and nicely done fish dishes. Servers were eager , managers friendly but then came the night of the forgotten table. We waited over a half hour to get a drink (no apology). Rinse repeat on the dinner but this was next level neglect , looking around they were scrambling to get food out to all the tables but the chaos led to some getting served in a relatively timely fashion and us being cloaked in anonymity. When after a 90 minute plus delay , our food arrived in one whoosh , again just chirpy talk , no worries no offers , and final twist of the sushi knife , most food was at room temp. Staffing was obviously an issue and post pandemic this realm of dining experiences is all too familiar feeling but cmon , the one redeeming card they could’ve played they kept to their vests , offer to pay for drinks or a dessert or something? So this is a swanky new spot in a higher end new hotel , it begs for better execution...
