Members of our family and I flew here from New York and Connecticut for Walt Disney World and Universal Studios and so went to Keke’s on the recommendation of a fellow co-worker as a viable breakfast spot. However, since we didn’t get there until ten-thirty our party decided to change gears and order lunch instead of breakfast. That might’ve proved to be a mistake on our part. Being that I was in the mood for a hearty, juicy burger, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger thinking it to be a safe option. When doing so, I asked Allison our waitress to have it cooked medium-rare. I was then shocked when I learned that there was only one temp available and that was WELL DONE. Although I was upset by this, I went ahead and ordered my burger any way. I mean if I wanted my burger fully cooked then I could spend a lot less and go to a fast food restaurant instead right? Well after trying their burger, I wish I had, because the burger was small—about thirty-percent smaller than a Whopper. I asked for raw onions and I got diced onions which I found odd as I’m accustom to getting onions cut in “rings.” Not sure if that is a Northeast thing for me or a time-saving thing for them but I thought it peculiar that they do it in that fashion. The other thing is that their menu offered half-pound burgers which I was at first impressed by. There was some confusion over this because when Allison asked if I wanted a “double burger” I declined, thinking she was offering me two half-pound patties rather than one. A one-pound burger was to me just too much! I realized my mistake soon afterwards when Allison explained that the price of their burgers that appeared on our menu were in reality, their “double burger” price and so if we opted for a single-patty burger that the price would be a dollar-fifty less. This of course explains why their burgers were so small. This then alerted me to the possibility that these guys might be getting away with using a lesser-quality of beef if they’re getting them bulk a la fast food burger patties. I’m not saying that is the case here: I’m only saying that it’s highly likely. They very likely could argue that their burgers are all fully cooked and so the only option for the customer is to have it served well done under the guise that it’s a health and safety precaution but in reality, it’s really saving them a ton of money. Here, they are very likely charging a premium for cheap, fast-food style burgers at bistro prices. My sister ordered a bacon cheeseburger which included only two small halves of a single slice of bacon which was a dollar-forty-nine more than a regular cheeseburger. When she complained, Allison rectified it by bringing her three more slices of bacon from the kitchen. Another faux pas was that they served us ridged potato chips with the burgers when the menu stated that they would be served with kettle chips. Between the skimpy pieces and the wrong chips, I’m thinking that a chef/kitchen manager/expeditor wasn’t present during service. All of this could’ve easily been avoided if he or she was. Look, I don’t mind paying a hundred dollars for a T-bone steak if it really is a hundred dollar T-bone steak. My $10+ burger just didn’t taste like one. In total, our table ordered two burgers, two wraps, and two BLTs. The non-burger items were as expected, but the two burger dishes were below par and over priced. In hindsight, we should’ve ordered the breakfast! As a bright spot, Allison was fantastic and the ambiance was great. Plenty of lighting via wrap-around glass windows. I can see why so many gave this place positive reviews. They just have to work on the non-breakfast items—either that or just serve breakfast...
Read moreWorst experience and racist server. Multiple times now have had terrible service, but especially this last encounter. We arrived to Kekes and waited 30 minutes to be seated even though the greeter said it would be 15 minutes. After we were seated, a server (older woman) approaches us and asks what we would like to drink. I asked for a hot chocolate. She then comes back with the hot chocolate and asks to take the order. When she takes the order, I asked for fries. She doesn't write the order down and instead looks to me and asks 'well no, what is the time?'
It was 11:45a.m., way past the time that fries would be served. So I told her the time and she reluctantly takes the order.
Meanwhile, I finish my hot chocolate drink. She never came back to check on us, but she was checking on everyone else and smiling at the other folks and refusing to make eye contact with me.
When she comes back over, I ask for my hot chocolate refill and she refuses. She says that I must finish the entire hot chocolate before she can bring me a new one. I said I am finished with this one and instead of taking it away to bring me the new one, she ignores me and walks away.
After 45 minutes of not being served nor getting my hot chocolate refill, we get up to leave.
My husband goes to the front to explain and then the server and manager come out and try to make us pay for the food even though they never brought it!
The server says she spilled the hot chocolate in the kitchen and that's why she didn't bring it out. Completely lying.
I was so upset from the treatment. After the dispute, I call Kekes to speak to the manager and explain the situation, he proceeds to talk over me and says 'you're a guest and if you feel that you were treated unfairly, you can go somewhere else. Thank you and have a great day' and then he hangs up on me.
This has been the worst experience and treatment ever. The server was racist and refused to serve us. Not only did she refuse, the microagressions from taking our order and questioning us for the time, not jotting down our order, making us wait 45 minutes for food while others who came after us were getting served is despicable.
I hope that Kekes can manage their staff better and that racist servers are no longer able to treat customers that way.Hopefully, people learn to be more kind to one another.
We just wanted a nice quiet breakfast, not to be...
Read moreI want to start off this review by saying that the reason why I am saying something now is because my best friend & I went back here to give this place a try & the same thing happened a year ago with my mom & I. A year ago my mom & I went here & had breakfast & there was a long curly black hair in her eggs Benedict. They did remake a whole new eggs Benedict for my mom after she said please don’t take this back and just take the hair out I want a whole new one & the hostess said “no we don’t do that here don’t worry” & why would the hostess come over to the table ? Well we tried to flag down our waitress & she never came by until my mom went up to the hostess table & notified them of the issue with the long black curly hair in her food. Perhaps she was hiding from not wanting to acknowledge the problem ? We were charged twice for 2 eggs Benedict’s for the one that had a long curly black hair in it , instead of taking it off the bill you charge my mom for it twice ? You kidding me ? We got home that night & my mom was over the toilet for 5 hours ! She missed work for 2 weeks & had to borrow money from my uncle to pay our rent! Yes i understand & am well aware this was a year ago & the reason why I’m saying something now is because my friend & I went in & got the eggs Benedict & their was a black hair in it & my blood pressure was so high that I had to leave the restaurant because I was furious ! My friend paid the bill & I made my plate to where the black hair was noticeable & of course no one noticed it. Dont tell me of you should have told us , well what would you guys have done ? Charged us twice like you did to my mom & I a year ago ?So a black hair in eggs Benedict’s that happened 2 years in a row wow :( do better kekes , ok one time I will give it a year & give yall a second chance but a year later to have the same thing happen again !!!!! I will eat leftovers from a dumpster. before I ever step foot into this...
