The last time I visited Goomba’s, is when their location was on HWY 50 and 2nd Street in Clermont, The old steeple church building. When you entered the restaurant, the host/ hostess would greet us by saying “Welcome to Goomba’s!” Frank the owner was usually seated at the bar and was friendly as well, all the server were friendly and welcoming. They also thanked us for coming and hope to see you soon. This is my first time visiting this new location by the Epic theater in Clermont. When we entered the older gentleman greeted us by saying “is this for Take-out, Pick-up or Dine-in”, I told him we would be dining in and we’d like a booth for our lunch. I ordered the meaty lasagna and my spouse ordered the chicken parmigiana. The food was hot and delicious. The ambiance is the same as the previous location but a smaller version. You can see the chef and the cooks heads over the counter preparing the dishes. The Italian cookies from up north (New York) are staged on the counter. The issue we have is the customer service. Our server was a young man who didn’t tell us his name, he asks us for our drink orders, he brought out the garlic rolls and a side bowl of marinara sauce which was delicious. We received our food, but we only saw our server one time, we noticed he sat down with the owner (Frank) which they appeared to be working on some flyers for upcoming dinner specials. The older gentleman who was the host walked by our table and spoke to folks in front and behind and asked them how their food was and never inquired or asked us anything. We received our bill the prices were reasonable for real Italian food. Customer Service has gone by the waist side. It’s so disappointing that we paid $60 for a very good lunch only to be sorely disappointed by the lack of customer service. I actually loudly said “You’re Welcome” as we exited the door feeling utterly disappointed by the lack of friendly and professional customer service. To some this whole luncheon experience up I’d just say “great food, but customer service was...
Read moreHorrid experience. Changing locations apparently also means changing service. I'd eaten at Goomba's a couple times when they were at the old location on Hwy 50, the owner seems like a nice guy. A few weeks ago my kids (age 30's) and I stopped in to eat since our movie (at the theater next door) wasn't starting for an hour. When we walked in, they had a kids party (of about 20) going on so the place was pretty raucous. After 15 minutes of waiting at the table and no waitress in sight, we decided to come back after the movie rather than rush them, and us. We returned afterwards to a much quieter (and less busy)experience with only 4 tables occupied. I commented to our waitress (Who identified herself as the owner's daughter) about how crazy it was with the kids party going on, and how we decided to come back after the movie when they weren't so busy. She said it was probably a good idea since they were swamped. She took our beverage order and started to walk away and I asked (Since we'd been there a few hours earlier and knew what we wanted) 'Ma'am, could we order now?' For some reason this seemed to irritate her. She took the order, brought our beverages, and we never saw her at the table again until she brought the bill nearly an hour and a half later (long after we'd finished eating). About 25 minutes after ordering our food, another waitress brought our pizza, and about 10 minutes after that I brought our glasses up to ask for a second refill (Yes, twice). Apparently you have to ask for your own refills? Meanwhile our server was standing around happily chatting with other employees. Nobody asked how the food was, or if we needed anything, we even had to get red peppers from another table. We were pleasant the whole time, but honestly, the pizza was flavorless and bland, and the service is non-existent. I realize it was the owner's daughter, and I give her some leeway for that, but apparently they operate like a fast food place now, take your order and walk away. We won't...
Read moreMy husband & I moved to Minneola almost 3 years ago and have been in search of a good Italian restaurant that has authentic Italian eggplant parm and pizza. We are the type that once we find a place we like, we become loyal customers and visit often as long as quality, service and pricing stay consistent. We tried so many places in the area because Italian food is one of our favorites. We went to places that came highly recommended and tried out new places as they opened up. Although we found some that were OK, none of them really hit the target enough for us to become frequent visitors. Instead, I preferred staying home and cooking the meals myself. That is, until we found Goombas & Donzito Pizzeria. We went last week and tried out the Eggplant Parm. We were both delighted with the entree as well as the fresh salad that came with it. The service was outstanding.... better than any service we've had from any of the local restaurants we've visited in the area. Lucas, the waiter, was extremely pleasant, efficient and personable. Daniel, the manager, made a point to stop at our booth and check in about what we thought of the food. Last night we went back to try out the pizza. Again, we were totally satisfied with the flavor and quality. Prices at Goombas are right about where we need them to be in order to frequent as much as we'd like. The exception to the affordability was the $3.50 per extra item for the pizza. After adding pepperoni, mushrooms and peppers, the price of the pizza became more expensive than we would like it to be. Next time round, we wouldn't order 3 add-ons (unless it were closer to $2.50 per add-on) as that made the pizza pricier than we'd like. Overall, we are thrilled to find our go to pizzeria and hope that the food, service and affordability continue for...
