Wow! What a wonderful treat for an early Mother's Day celebration dinner last weekend. My son treated the family to an absolutely delicious Persian meal at Tah Deeg. The restaurant is located in Sierra Vista Mall next to the parking lot of the theatre on the far right. The sign age is small and over the entrance. In looking for the place there was a couple dining in the outside patio and I was impressed with the amount of food that was on their table. As we entered we were immediately greeted by Abdi the owner ( not Abney) with a friendly and pleasant welcome and were seated promptly. We ordered family style and started with a huge salad that fed all four of us along with a Yogurt & Cucumber Dip served with house fresh baked Persian flatbread. Sooo Good! We then ordered two Lamb Shank plates one with Barberry "tahdeeg" rice and the other with Dill "tahdeeg" rice. Both rices were topped with a pancake size crispy and crunchy hard rice. My wife ordered the Fresh Herb Stew which came in a separate hot pan to serve over the rice. The rice portion was huge but I managed to polish off the lamb shank and there was a lot of leftovers to bring home. Finally ,the dessert was a combination of Baklava and Persian Ice Cream infused with pistachio and saffron. Overall the food brought a host of taste sensations to our palate. You can tell that Abdi's passion is serving and introducing people to the wonderful Persian cuisine. I read only one review that complained about the prices being high but I can only say that after coming back from experiencing the Smorgasburg in LA where an apple fritter donut cost $6.00 and a lobster roll cost $40.00 these prices for what you get were very reasonable and you get a lot for your dollar. So I highly recommend this place for a phenomenal Mediterranean...
Read moreMy first time at a Persian restaurant. Aside from the authentic appearance in the restaurant, they have a Old technology Tea maker and according to the chef who came out from behind the open kitchen area, provided fresh made pita bread and cold water served in copper cups explained the old tea maker technology. It almost looked like a hookah. I want to say, that the chef was very informative and excited when I asked question about the different dishes about the ingredients in them and how it is cooked.
I had my eye on the "Ground Beef and Lanb" combo platter. It was explained that the beef/lamb is cooked on a Skewers and the ground mix is 80% Beef and 20% Lamb with 20 % fat ratio. There was further explanation that the rice is cooked and that is usually served in a family style setting in a genuine family dinner setting that the meats is cooked aboth the rice and they drippings from the meat falls to the cooking rice, it absorbs the meats juices and makes a crust on the rice. Then the members of the family would eat that first and fights might occur because it is most popular. Well the chef says he does that crusted rice for each individual plate so that everyone has their own and no fighting would happen. Lol!!!
I will say this food was great and similar to a medditeranian type dish, slighty cooked differently with different spices. This was positive...
Read moreVery delicious food. We had the special kabob platter for two, which could have easily provided a decent meal for four or a feast for two and our picky young kid with ample leftovers in our case, and the appetizer sampler, with fresh lavash flatbread and four accompanying dishes.
The platter had three types of kabob, the waitress politely asked if we were familiar with the dishes or if we want recommendations for combining them (advising the kabob combined with the maast-o musser was very good). And I will never not recommend Persian tea.
The service was excellent, attentive and friendly but not smothering, though we had a seat near the door and it was a cold day. Every time the door opened, we were refrigerated, and the door took forever to close and did not even want to close more quickly manually, and the heater was overcompensating to keep up, so it would get overly warm in the interim.
The atmosphere was pleasant enough. The floor was a little messy when we came in, but not terrible. The paint or covering on the tables are sadly not adhering properly and is bubbling and peeling, I hope they can get that fixed (or get tablecloths). It looks like they have a nice outdoor area, so we will definitely want to check it out on a day when the weather is nice.
All-in-all, definitely recommend, especially for getting a real Persian...
