So Colorado Mexican food is kind of a mix of Tex Mex, New Mexico Mexican, and a hint of Sonoran. Hallelujah I have been missing some real deal Sonoran style Mexican or at least the closest thing that I've had to since I've been here. I love you and I'm not even exaggerating. Three rolled tacos with cheese and sour cream hits in the way you'll never understand. If you've never been to a bar and had a craving from Mexican food at 2 in the morning you won't get it. If you've been to Arizona this place reminds me of those Bertos restaurants. This is as good as Filibertos the OG. Of Bertos. The meat is so tender the tortillas perfectly crisp and not greasy. You could tell they maintain the fryer. The flavor of the corn tortillas came through because the fryer is clean. These are bigger then the rolled tacos I'm used to and its a plus. This Horchata hit's like Abuela made it. Not too much cinnamon not too much sugar just that refreshing taste you love to wash down a carne asada burrito. Now that I know the rolled Tacos are legit AF I'm with it. This was just my first venture in to Monicas and I had to know if they made my classic favorite dish rolled tacos as well as I thought and I was pleasantly surprised I had heard this was the spot in Colorado Springs. So far it's my favorite Mexican food. Super friendly staff. I want a carne asada burrito with extra pico de gallo no guac next time and the biggest...
Read moreThese cheapskates have gone down in quality by a lot in the last 10 years. Their burritos are so dry and lack flavor that you need to use their red and green sauce. The sauce is really good. Here’s the problem, if you dine in, they give you a bottle of red & green you can use as much as you want, no problem. If you go through the drive through and they cheap out like nobody’s business. For one burrito they’ll give you two tiny sauces. You really need 6-8 of the little sauces to eat a whole burrito because they’re so dry and flavorless. If you ask for more sauce they’ll try charging you $0.25 per tiny container. It’s ridiculous and makes no sense, the only difference is that I am eating either at work or in the restaurant. Also 20 years ago when they first opened in Colorado Springs, they moved here from Los Angeles, back then they made huge burritos, 2.5x as big as they are now and they charged $3.00 a burrito. Within a year of opening business here, they cut the size in half and started charging $7.00 a burrito. Now they’re even smaller charging $9.00 a burrito and being greedy with the sauce....
Read moreI decided to try the brand new Monica's up North and I was very excited. I had eaten at Monica's in the past at the Southern location and every time I went it was amazing. The food was fresh, warm, and delicious, the service was also great and the food came out quickly. But, I can't say the same about the new location. I walked in hungry. The lady at the counter was very friendly and I placed my order. I proceeded to wait and wait and wait. Despite there only being 2 other customers in the restaurant, it took the cooks 40 minutes to get my food prepared. Finally when I got the food I was sad to see that my hard shell beef tacos were soggy🤢. They were not crispy as a taco should be and instead wet and stale. But, other than that everything else was delicious. The rice and beans were tasty and my carne asada taco really hit the spot. Despite certain things being positive my overall experience was unsatisfactory. I'm not sure if I caught them on a bad day, so I'm definitely willing to try...
