Read moreThe food here was pretty good. Rather standard prices for sushi in the area ($8-$13 per roll), the service was decent. Once we sat down and ordered some appetizers (agedashi tofu and edamame, both very good) we were left alone...for about 35 minutes without anyone taking the order for our rolls. Our server was on the other side of the sushi bar munching on food while we waited for sometime to take our order. We had to flag down the food runner to take the order. We got 4 rolls, the lion king, the Philly, the cucumber, and the 007. All the rolls were quite good so no complaints there. We decided since it was our friend's birthday to go ahead and get dessert as well. The waitress, at this point she finished her meal, comped our friend's dessert for her birthday. She had the mango mochi, my wife got the chocolate mochi, and I got the green tea cheesecake that I scoped out from home. I don't think any of us was expecting the cheesecake that they brought to the table...I mean, look at this thing! It was so small, I almost thought it was a joke. We were dying trying not to laugh at the miniscule stature of this little guy. The flavor was a mild matcha and the whole thing was frozen so it wasn't very enjoyable texturally.
TL;DR the food here at Kansai is quite good, the pricing is pretty standard, the service was a bit lackluster, and if you want dessert I would...
Read moreWe are frequent fliers here and every single time the sushi is really good (unless they make a mistake), but the customer service is TERRIBLE! However, tonight's service was so bad that if it weren't for the fact that the only thing open was fast food and Denny's we would have walked out! We had to ask... 》》3 times for water and still the table behind us got refills before we could get our FURST glass of water. 》》twice for wasabi and still didn't get it! 》》for forks & napkins that we didn't get, so we had to get up and get it ourselves! Our server (pic attached) NEVER asked if we needed or wanted anything else once the food came out to the table, and anytime we'd make a request for her to get us something she was dismissive and non-responsive. The Oakland location has EXCELLENT customer service and while it doesn't look so great (on the outside) the ambiance inside is great. While I love good food I really appreciate Great Service and tip very well for it! Needles to say she didn't get a tip! 2 Stars ONLY because we actually like the food! However, they need to hire someone to train their staff how to provide good...
