My wife and I decided to head into town to give Lock, Stock, and Barrel a go.

I review places I believe people will enjoy. Although, with that said I want to ensure expectations are met.

First and foremost: Go to LSB for the steak options. There is an ol’ adage that says, “Don’t go to a steakhouse, for seafood.”

I selected the 16oz. prime rib with an asparagus side. It was incredible! Served on a hot plate of au jus, the cut was great, the fat content was appropriate, and the medium rare cook was perfection. The horseradish cream, as the accent to the prime rib was the perfect pairing and absolutely delicious when put together. The asparagus, presented as a heathy serving of small shoots, were butter basted, tender, and delectable. If you want a brilliant prime rib, there is no doubt LSB is an excellent choice. My wife chose the Black Pepper Citron Chicken with Bacon Cheddar Au Gratin Potatoes. She complemented that the chicken was moist, flavorful, and worth the price. The potatoes were fantastic, with the perfect array of seasoning to make the side stand out amongst the entrée.

Although, as I alluded to earlier, prior to the main course, I chose the Sampler Platter (seafood) as my starter. I subtracted the crab cakes for an “addition” (up-charge) of a scallops. The sampler platter off the menu comes with bacon-wrapped cajun shrimp, fried calamari, and crab cakes, the crab cakes which I chose to change for bacon wrapped scallops. Without dragging out the details, the seafood was not my cup of tea. The calamari was fine but not unlike any other, the shrimp was extremely over-seasoned, overcooked and unappealing, unfortunately burnt was presented as blackened. The scallops were over but edible. Disappointingly, the accoutrement of sauces were, to put it plainly, not great.

Atmosphere: The bar has adequate seating and is located directly to the right as you enter the restaurant. It is stocked with standard and top shelf options, draft beer options are available to quench your thirst as well. The drink menu has a satisfactory list of mixed drinks available and the wine menu is ample enough for most. Dining is located to the rear of the restaurant It feels appropriate, nice, clean. Lighting sets a steakhouse mood. The space is arranged well with both small and large booths and tables to accommodate. I would suggest calling ahead to make reservations for large parties in order to allow the staff time to ensure placement is ready and available. There is live music during the week that is posted on the LSB Facebook page, so you never miss your favorite performer, or if you prefer dinner without music you know when to attend.

Service: we had reservations, and arrived to a cheerful hostess. We were promptly shown to a table although, we informed the hostess that the accommodations at a table were too much and that we would prefer a single couple-sized booth along the wall, this was not an issue and were welcomed to change. There was no wait for our server, she arrived almost immediately. She was knowledgeable on the menu, accommodating to our requests, and pleasant. She never left us without, and was prompt and courteous throughout the evening. Looking around, all waitstaff and the clearing crew were on top of it.

Price: A “customized” starter, two dinners, one draft beer, two glasses of wine, two desserts, and tip placed us under what I’ve paid elsewhere. Although, not inexpensive the bill was not outrageous. I agree that the price is on par with expectations and I didn’t have reservations when signing. Service also demanded the tip reflected the effort and that attributed.

There is no doubt we will be back to Lock, Stock and Barrel, and we will work through more of the menu. Although, from our first impressions, I think I will take it for what it really is and stick to steaks…and that’s fair. Even though “lock, stock and barrel” might be an overstep in terminology, overall well done.
