About 20 minutes prior to closing time (9PM) my husband called the restaurant and asked if he still had time to place an order. He was told that he could so long as he could pick it up by 9PM which was no big deal since our hotel is within walking distance. Naturally, I was excited because I was told that getting Mexican food in San Diego is a must. Suffice it to say, what I received were the worst carne asada tacos, actually tacos in general, I’ve ever had. Poorly thrown together, bland and, worst of all, cold. In retrospect, we probably never should’ve ordered anything so close to their close of business. I gave them an extra star for accepting the order, but would’ve rather had no food than disappointing food. Lesson learned.
Update: Hi Andrew, I tried to reach out at 9:20 AM today on 9/27/21 but the phone kept ringing at the coffee shop. Nonetheless, my husband picked up the Mexican food in question on Saturday, 9/25/21. I appreciate...
Read moreHonestly this place isn’t all that great. I got the caprese sandwich. This is my second time here. The wait is usually too long because they have the person that’s taking orders also packing food and coffee. The sandwich just had very little flavor to it at all. The bread was stale and old. It didn’t even seem like they pressed it. (Was a panini sandwich). I got the iced coffee. Apparently they only have black iced coffee. (Very strange for a coffee shop). I added vanilla and almond milk to it. The coffee is already cold, but for some reason filled the entire cup with ice. This left me with little coffee. The atmosphere of this place is cool and the fact there’s 3 different sections. (Taco shop, coffee shop, and dine in area) but overall, especially taking the prices into consideration, not worth it. I can think of a lot better places that are actually...
Read moreFor some reason I keep giving Claytons MTO a chance. Ordered carne asada fries. Dropped $13-14 on a plate of crinkle fries (?!?) with carne asada meat, sour cream and guac. No tomatoes, no salsa, no spice of any kind. It was bland and boring.
Sorry Clayton’s. Three strikes and you’re out.
Two years ago: Coronado is sadly lacking in take out Mexican food. I tried this place out years ago and was unimpressed. However, I needed some burritos to take to Screen on the Green in Balboa Park and I needed them quick! So, I stopped here a couple weeks ago. Nothing seems to have changed. You pay about average (or even a bit more) for burritos on the smallish side and without all the yummy extras. No guac included. No house salsas.
Next time I'll stop in Barrio Logan on my way by. But if you don't want to go off island, well...it'll do. My roommate seems to think...
