This place has gone down hill. Rude hostess, stoned out of his mind waiter, and dirty bathroom.
The hostess was beyond rude. I added my name to the wait list and was told it would be 30 - 40 mins. 2 adults and 2 kids. Sat on the bench right outside and watched the hostess immediately seat multiple parties of four that walked up after us. I was close enough to hear that these people didn't have a reservation. Multiple tables were open and could be easily seen from the hostess stand. I watched the hostess even set parties of 2 that came well after us at 4+ top tables... after 40 mins I asked how much longer it would be and was told by the same hostess I would get a text when the table came available. I said how much longer.. I have two young boys and want to make a judgment call whether or not I needed to go somewhere else.. she looked at me and said, "you probably should.. this is the Henry... not McDondalds..." she immediately turned and disappeared into the resturant. As I turned to tell my wife what just happened the other hostess appeared and called my name. I decided to stay and not judge the entire experience based on a teenage girl working the hostess desk....bad move... didn't catch the rude ones name. Very short, long blonde hair, young around 19 -- 20ish, and was wearing an all white dress.
The waiter.... I will keep this one short. The guy was so high... my son asked me what was wrong with him and what the smell was after he left our table. I am cool with folks smoking. It isn't illegal but to get as bent as this guy was and no one at your work says anything... speaks volumes about the management or lack thereof. He wasnt rude per say but he reaked of skunk weed and my wife and I had to repeat ourselves 2-3 times. After he walked away my wife looked at me and said.. no way that guy is going to get our order right.. several minutes later he stops by the table to drop off a beer and some sodas... he sat the beer down in front of my son... 5 years old.... I immediately picked it up and handed it back to him and said we didn't order beer and my son is 5 dude lol. He stood there looking dazed and confused... fast forward and we eventually got our food etc.. short ribs were cold and my sons food had a hair in it, potsickers were cold as well. The crusty bread and pesto was good though.. Can't remember the guys name but I overheard him tell the table next to us the he was new and had only been there a short time. Taller guy... black hair pulled back into a short ponytail...
Went to take my boy to the restroom and found it in a disgusting state. Clearly a drunk had pissed on the floor... the stall was filthy... it was one of those father son moments where you tell him not to touch anything...
The check came and was dropped off without even a thanks for coming in.
I will take this story back to my staff as an example of how not to conduct business. Let's face it, the economy sucks, and everything is wayyyy over inflated... people have choices of where they dine out... to be presented with the experience we had... not worth the money.. It's not worth my time... Sad to see this on the island. We have a summer home a stones throw away and have been coming to the island for 3 generations now.. by far...... the worst run business on the island. Used to not be this way. When you first opened it, it was...
Read moreWe’ve been coming to the Henry for years—mostly to celebrate special events (birthdays, visits from the in-laws, etc).
The atmosphere is fantastic and the food is great. The menu is diverse and there are a lot of unique options that you can’t find elsewhere in Coronado. They also have a good selection of healthier menu options. And prices are on par with the rest of Coronado.
Inside is nice, but outside seating is the best. The vibe on the patio is great—especially on a nice day.
If you plan to come on the weekend I recommend making a reservation. They get super busy! But you can usually walk-in for a casual lunch on the weekday.
The only issue I’ve ever had has been with the host—which is why I stuck with 4/5 stars. Each time I’ve come the hostesses have been cold, if not dismissive. Most recently we came for mother’s day. I’d made reservations well in advance, seating for 4 on the patio, nearly first thing in the morning. When they called to confirm a few days prior I let the host know that we’d need two high chairs—they said they’d make note of it. The morning of, we go to check in and the host said they have us reserved for a high top. I asked about high chairs and she said we’d have to eat inside. I asked her about the other empty tables on the patio and she said they’d all been reserved, then just about scolded me as she said they’d have over 630 reservations that day, seating requests are preference not a guarantee, then asked if I’d rather the high top or a table inside. It just felt so patronizing and dismissive—especially since it seemed they were holding other 4-tops on the patio for other parties. The only saving grace was that the waiter was incredibly friendly—I’ve never had an issue with any of the waiters. I know hosting isn’t easy, and I’m sure that Mother’s Day was an added stressor, but the hosts attitude was so off putting.
Other than that I’d recommend giving the Henry a try when you’re in town. I’ll definitely be going back, but it’s a real bummer to know that reservations are only...
Read moreFrom start to finish we had an awesome experience. My husband and I were seated quickly, we also had our infant son with us in his stroller. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. The servers/waiters/waitresses were all polite and attentive. Our main server was Kyle and he was phenomenal (which isn't a great enough word to describe our experience with him). This was the first time we ate all of our food (apps/entrees/ dessert) at the table and the portions were very filling. I even ordered a meal to go. In all, we ordered two apps, three entrees, one dessert and two alcoholic drinks. Our bill was under $200, it was $190 but still under $200 lol but WORTH IT! Plus that was a lot of food. Based on Kyle's recommendations, we had the following:
Appetizers: Short Rib Postickers and the Crusty Bread and Brie. Both were amazing. My only complaint was the crusty bread was extremely crunch/ hard but I was willing to risk chipping a tooth based on the flavor and I'd take that risk again.
Entrees: Korean Prime Skirt Steak (medium well) and the Braised Short Rib - YALL!! Both selections were extremely tender and melted in your mouth like butter chefs kiss. I'm not a fan of blue cheese crumbles or garnish but I ate it with that Short Rib- that's how good it was AND I ordered another Korean skirt steak to go.
Dessert: Warm croissant bread pudding. It was delicious and my husband devoured it. I'm a texture person and this had one too many for me to indulge plus "bread pudding" just doesn't sound appealing to me. However, this dessert was scrumptious lol
Alcholic Drinks: Winter Harvest Sangria and the Fig and Ginger Mule. Both drinks were tasty but the figs were definitely figging, nonetheless my husband thought both were very delicious.
To sum it up, if you're thinking about trying this place GO! Ask for "my friend Kyle" - that's a reference from the animated movie "Home" I don't know that man lol. We're definitely going back to try...
