I am so disappointed in Villa Nueva Bakery. I have been going there for years (I am a local and live on the island). This past weekend, my husband, two year old, newborn and I went out to breakfast, and among other things (totaling $60+ as I got muffins to go) I ordered a breakfast croissant sandwich. I told the cashier I'd like eggs, cheese, avocado and tomato. She repeated back to me. When it came out, there was ham on it - and I'm vegetarian. When I asked for a new sandwich, I was told ham comes automatically and since I didn't specify that I didn't want it (even though I specified what I DID want), they would not remake it. They took the entire plate back and did not give me a new sandwich or my money back, so I left hungry.
I cannot believe this terrible customer service. To top it all off, this was our first time out to breakfast with our newborn. A woman at the table next to me came over after she heard my exchange with the waitress and noted how horrible it was that they did not rectify their mistake, and to give a new mom such a hard time to boot (I was wearing the baby the whole time). Needless to say, I will not be going back nor ever recommend this restaurant ever again. Very disappointing, as I like to frequent local establishments rather than chains and the food there is good - but there are plenty of other restaurants with excellent customer service that will get my money...
Read moreI walked in seeing a photo of their dubai chocolate advertising and wanted to have some, as I’ve been craving some dubai chocolate. My first sign should’ve been that the workers would just sitting on their phones and others were talking with one another not even at the counter. As I walked towards the counter, I saw at least 6 flies inside the pastry shelves, just snacking on all the pastries that are being sold. That’s disgusting. Then after ordering the expensive dubai strawberries, we did not receive dubai strawberries. Whatsoever. In the cup were poor quality, mushy strawberries with the THINNEST layer of chocolate drizzled on top. NO KATAIFI, NO PISTACHIO IN SIGHT, AND WORST OF ALL… THERE WAS WHITE CHOCOLATE. The minuscule amount of kataifi on top was not even kataifi, as it was not cooked and seemed to be smothered in olive oil. I’m pretty sure it was 100% plastic. You can just IMAGINE my disappointment. Then we kindly confronted the worker who served our supposed dubai strawberries but we received some really rude remarks in return, completely ignoring our concern. As a dubai chocolate lover and enthusiast, I am confident that the entire UAE would be very offended. DO NOT come here if you have taste buds and self respect...
Read moreThis is in regards to the bakery items only. In the morning, there's a good selection of pastries, from danishes to muffins. I decided to get a bear claw, which is something I would get depending on how it looks. I didn't realize it til later, but it was not in the shape of a claw at all. In the display case, it looks alright, but looks are deceiving.
First, the pastry layers are not light and soft, but hard, dry, and kinda tough to chew. It just seemed like it was old or overcooked. Also, the filling was not a typical bear claw filling..it did have the almond filling, but with the addition of I believe pecans and coconut. I really don't like coconut, and since it's not what should go into a real bear claw, it would have been nice to have the ingredient description of the items in the display, or be told by the staff member that it has coconut, as I would have gotten something else and not have regretfully ate the danish later.
I don't know if they bake the pastries in house or get them from an outside vendor, but good luck if you want...
