The good thing about Thai food, is now I know how it's all made and I'm a much better judge of things since I took a Thai cooking class. My first experience of Thai since that class and I really tried to use my palate to sense the subtle variances in each restaurant. First of all décor is light, simple, clean and neat. They use white table clothes and serve on porcelain dishes. Each table has fresh flowers on it that really let you know they care. The pricing is very competitive, unlike many places on the island that are not with similar establishments off the island. Not a bad place to take a date as there is plenty to walk around and do afterwards in the area, gelato shop called Moo something is my suggestion.
Tom Ka soup seemed to be more clear than expected, but just the right amount of sour from the tamarind. I prefer the rounded out taste of black/white pepper to some people who add hot pepper to their soups. I also prefer the minimal bamboo shoots, which as many know if not cooked/soaked properly can be little daggers.
Pad Si Eew had tender beef and succulent broccoli, but I found the noodles to be a a little broken and the sauce to be a tad burned, which is weird because I found the soy they used to be saltier than most sweet soy's and I'd imagine the burning was from the sugars. Nice size for 1 person, but I've got a healthy appetite and I went with the Green Curry which was thick and hearty, needed very little rice to compliment it. I went with the 5 spice level and it was tame, I prefer a measured scale rather than the exponential type which I feel is meant to deter people from over spicing, but hard for us who like and can handle spice to accurately judge.
As good as a thai iced tea is the real business is in the coffee. Yes I understand the price can be off putting, but it's really not pricey for the quality you get and it's been so engrained in us that Asian food is usually cheap. The average person can't appreciate the scale of good to bad and fine dining isn't exclusive to Italian and French and things you can't cook. We're so accustomed to getting $6 pad thai in a slightly large portion, but doesn't taste homecooked. So when you see a restaurant serving high quality Thai food in a better than average setting you seem blown away at paying $15 for that. You could go to outback and get a mediocre steak for the same price and not skip a beat, but proportionally bad is that compared to Ruth's...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I stopped in to grab dinner and we got a table right outside their front windows to their entrance. We waited about 10-15 minutes for our waitress to come and take our order which I understood is normal with a busy full house. I ordered the som tum (papaya salad) and it had no flavor at all. It didn’t taste horrible but it also didn’t taste good.. was just kind of like bleh. My boyfriend who is Thai and continues to seem to only want to eat Thai food ordered the duck larb. They brought him the wrong dish and we had to wait 15 minutes to flag someone down from inside to tell them. The lady who we told did not even apologize. They brought back his actual plate about 10 minutes later. He could tell they just reused the duck from the previous wrong dish that they had brought him. He gave the duck larb a 4 out of 10 in flavor.
Once he finished his food we then again realized that our waitress still had not stopped by even once to check on us. We asked the lady who was bussing the outside tables if she could ask our waitress for our check. Ten minutes later we got our check and of course I left no tip because of their very poor customer service.
Do not come here! Drive down the strand and visit our favorite place Siam Kitchen! So much better and the staff is so friendly and attentive. My boyfriend swears it’s the closest restaurant that reminds him of food...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant Saturday Oct 6th for evening meal. We are familiar with Thai cuisine and eagerly anticipated the food. We ordered starters soup was delicious, spring rolls & chicken skewers quite nice. The had main course Penang and red curry for main which again was quite nice. Food we enjoyed though we felt slightly expensive. Not much choice of side orders on the menu ; only boiled rice offered. Sadly the customer service was lacking as I had to ask several times to be served we sat alone on the other side of this small establishment and felt left out. When finishing up we weren’t asked if we wanted anything further just came with bill - only to query why I hadn’t tipped !! Maybe our experience is a one off, maybe I it’s because we were from the UK ( not American). We have travelled and dined extensively all over the world and very much look forward to dining out, sadly on this occasion we left after only 40 mins In our experience The food above average ( though could do more choice with sides and rice ) the service /atmosphere well below...
