Veranda — Restaurant in Coronado

There are a lot of great things about this place. The food is very good. I very much enjoyed the steak. I’m not sure what Tony’s job tile is, but I loved him. He was clearly very hard working. We weren’t his table but he was so friendly to us. I was watching him work and it looked liked he was so attentive and friendly to every party he came across. Our server, Anthony, was also very good. Such a a sweet man. It was our anniversary and he comped a desert. He made sure we were well taken care of. I’m only giving a negative review because there were some issues of the restaurant as a whole. I can’t really describe it well, but I feel like maybe they’re weren’t very welcoming. Like maybe we were a burden to be waited on. I can’t put my finger on why they’re not a 5 star restaurant, I can only say for certain that they’re not a 5 star restaurant. Again, I’d like to emphasize that Tony (Busser/food runner maybe) and Anthony were fantastic. If this is read by a manager of this restaurant, please know they are not to blame for this negative experience. In fact, they are a bright spot of this place. This past evening, our dining experience at Veranda was truly exceptional, leaving a lasting impression. We started off with the crab cake and Parker rolls followed by scallops and ribeye. All was fantastic.

Adding to the wonderful meal was the fantastic outdoor ambiance. The patio offered a serene setting, allowing for a relaxed and enjoyable evening on the renovated area.

The fantastic service provided by our server, Cody, was a definite highlight. From the moment we were seated, he was attentive, personable, and knowledgeable about the menu, guiding us through our selections with ease and offering excellent recommendations. Cody truly went above and beyond to ensure our every need was met, making us feel welcomed and valued as guests.

I really wanted to like the Veranda. Having never been to the Hotel del Coronado, I was expecting a true fine-dining experience with amazing views. The food and service were both good, but everything else was very disappointing. The valet was expensive, slow, and disorganized. The view was blocked by so many people and activities in the lawn between the restaurant and the beach. At fine dining prices, I would've expected an elevated atmosphere. Instead, every table in the place had small children, crying, screaming, staring at Ipads, and throwing food on the floor. The place was so loud and busy. The glass on the side of our booth had disgusting greasy hand smudges all over it, clearly a kid having some sort of unsupervised fun before us.
