Unfortunately, I can only go off a single visit, but as we've been to other Mac's locations multiple times with no problems in the past and this particular visit stuck out so much, I wanted to point out some issues:
Went there for dinner last night with my wife and a few friends. Picked it because it looked like they just opened and found that there weren't many people there (it grew over time, but most of the inside was still empty). Service was extremely slow for our drinks. On top of this, we weren't given correct prices. One of our party ordered two hurricanes -- served in a lowball glass with a lot of ice, we were told that they were $5.50 (given the size and how average tasting it was, we figured that was fair). When we got the bill, we were charged $8.00 for each of them. When we asked about it, she said that they were originally $9.00. So on top of being overpriced, we were either 1) dealing with an extremely lazy waitress, 2) deliberately being lied to, or 3) both. If they offered to change the bill, we wouldn't have had an issue.
Then there was the matter of the partial appetizer we got. Mac's has a really good cheesy garlic bread which is basically a pizza pie with garlic and cheese with marinara for dipping. When we get ours, it's brought out with a missing piece. Apparently it fell to the floor and they couldn't be bothered to make it again. It wasn't a big deal because it was a small piece, but it stuck out like a sore thumb because of how it's made.
Just like the other Mac's locations, the food there is great. Unfortunately, I won't eat there again unless it's take out (and after verifying that all my order is there). Thankfully, if you're looking for pizza in Mainstrasse, Goodfellas Pizza and Pizza Tower are across the street and are...
Read moreGreat place. The main reason we thought to give this place a try was that it had vegan and gluten-free options available in their menu and the place did not disappoint us. We went for their waffle fries as starters and a vegan pizza on a gluten-free crust following it. Their waffle fries were great - although a little greasy. It was weird that they haven't thought about a standard dip that will go well with this innovative dish and left it to customers. We asked for a honey-mustard dip with that and it was definitely a good combination. The vegan pizza on a gluten-free crust was great. The crispness of the crust was just right and the toppings, along with vegan mozzarella cheese, were absolutely delicious. Definitely to be tried. They have a huge collection of beers but I would have loved to see their staff having knowledge around the beer. They can be more suggestive, especially when asked. Looking for a good dark beer to try (with Oktoberfest around), I settled for a craft beer. Having said that, the staff was good and pleasant to talk to. The place was unusually not crowded even though it was a Saturday night (perhaps because of Oktoberfest going around in the city), which was, in a way, a blessing for us. They have a couple of high chairs, a few booths and few more high chairs at the bar. The lighting was great. The entrance is quite unusual with an area having a bathtub on one side, cigarette box dispenser behind it and other unusual stuff around. The main pub starts once you cross that. Overall, a great place to spend some quality time with...
Read moreIt really pains me to write a business a bad review, unfortunately this is necessary. I typically go to Goodfellas but figured I'd give this place a try. I ordered a mushroom hoagie with tots and an order of pickle chips, my friend ordered boneless garlic hot wings and an order of pretzels with beer cheese. EVERYTHING WAS TERRIBLE!!! (other than the tots). My mushroom hoagie had little to no mushroom sauce on it, the hoagie meat was very thin and had no flavor, for some strange reason it was topped with raw red onions and soggy pickle chunks, and the hoagie bun had the consistency and texture of stale bread that had been toasted. The pickle chips were terrible as well, they were very mushy and breading resembled funnel cake consistency. My friends pretzels with beer cheese we're undercooked and very doughy, the beer cheese tasted like you just took yellow mustard and mixed it with generic cheese sauce. Finally his wings were so terrible he couldn't finish them. The wings themselves we're fine but the sauce was so overbearing. Never in my life have I seen a dish that had more garlic in it, see the pictures I attached if it looks like minced garlic it is. The best way I could describe the sauce was Frank's red hot with about 25 heaping Tablespoons of minced garlic mixed in. No one in their right mind would ever say "yeah that's the right amount of garlic this dish needed". Again it pains me to write this review but the food was just so so so bad. There are so many better restaurants to choose from in the area. If you go there I hope your food was...
