Mama’s Daughters’ Diner – Where Work Trucks and Good Taste Collide
When I travel for work, I steer clear of sad room service eggs and $40 conference hotel buffets that come with all the charm of a TSA checkpoint. Instead, I hunt for a proper diner—someplace where the coffee is strong, the food is hearty, and the biscuits don’t come with a linen napkin. Mama’s Daughters’ Diner delivered all that and more.
In Texas, if there’s brisket or chicken fried steak on the menu, I take that as a sign from the universe. I ordered the #1 Texas Sized Breakfast—two eggs, hash browns (because I’m not a grits guy), biscuits (because toast is for the weak), and a glorious slab of chicken fried steak. It was $13.25, but honestly, I would have paid double and still felt like I robbed the place.
Add a bottomless mug of coffee and you’re set for a full day of meetings, emails, and pretending to listen on Zoom.
Now, I wanted to follow it up with a slice of coconut cream pie, or maybe some peach cobbler, but I held off. Mostly because I didn’t want the judgy look from my coworker who “wasn’t that hungry” and ordered oatmeal (snooze). Next time, I’m going rogue and getting a fried pie. Life’s too short for restraint.
Pro tip: the moment I saw the parking lot packed with work trucks, I knew we were in for a good meal. That’s the unofficial Michelin star of the South.
Mama’s isn’t some lone roadside gem either—they’ve got a few locations around Dallas, including this one tucked into what they optimistically call the “Design District,” which is actually just code for “light industrial with Instagram potential.”
Bottom line? Skip the fancy hotel buffet. Head to Mama’s. Your stomach (and your wallet)...

I understand Sunday's are busy anywhere you go. We walked in & sat at a 4 top next to the windows at about 1:20 & we had church at 3 which was perfect timing if we had gotten our food an an understandable time frame. We got asked what we wanted to drink by I'm assuming a manager helping out with just drinks for all tables. & then waited for our server for an about 15-20 for us to order. When she did arrive she seemed overwhelmed. But an order of waffles with 2 scrambled eggs & French toast with a side of hashbrowns & a bowl of fruit DO NOT TAKE A WHOLE HOUR! But yet the ppl that were sitting next to us & behind us got their entire meals before we did & we ordered 1st. Mind you the other people's meals were chicken fried chicken etc. My husband & I were frustrated by the time it was 2:30 because we needed to go to church at 3! So we got up & paid for our drinks & mind we still waited in line to pay so we just gave the gentlemen with glasses that talks Spanish & let him know what was wrong & he even knew we were upset.
We usually have the Hispanic lady with short hair or the Hispanic gentleman man that is kinda bald & they are very lovely & easy to make conversation with. But they didn't have tables available in their sections this time.
My husband & I are very good tippers & easy to handle because we have both worked in the service industry for 6+ years & completely understand the behind of the scenes of a restaurant but I'm not sure what happened with our experience here with this...
Read moreDon’t come here. This location is on Irving Blvd, look for another location. The server was alright. The lady at the entrance didn’t even look up and greet, just mumbled to sit where we wanted. Waiter took a while to even come and say hi. Unfortunately it was my first time here and I didn’t know they closed at 2. By 2:05 the rude lady in the front called out the waiter out loud to come and charge my table. I was actually getting ready to get up and leave when another worker walked up to my table and asked my family member if she’s needed help eating. Because we where taking too long and they had closed. Said he would be willing to eat what was left. Did not feel comfortable, did not feel at home, did not feel welcomed. Felt so disrespected. And they don’t even care how they are. If they did they could have just said we are really sorry but we are about to close we would have been more then happy to pack our food and leave but they just made us feel uncomfortable and made smart comments at us I guess to get us to leave. As a business person that’s not the way to retain business. To the owner, do yourself a favor and get a good team who will retain more...
