This was our 2nd experience with this establishment. The first time we got it to go which honestly was a better experience.
First let me say the Brisket, Ribs & Sauces are all Great 10 out of 10. Mac & Cheese 7 out of 10. Pinto Beans 4 out of 10.
The food is not the issue. My issue was the Customer Service 0 out 10. Being RUSHED from the beginning to the end. Starting with choosing our sides rush rush rush. I recommend getting everything in to-go containers. Rushing customers that are spending this kinda of money is a RED FLAG 🚩 for me.
Once my family and I are were at the register which is also where you make your meat choices we were RUSHED even more. One guy cuts your meats and one guy rings you out. They are right next to each other and both are well aware of what you’re ordering. Rush rush rushing us again to the point that it felt very MANIPULATIVE to me. Although they’re asking you what would you like it’s all in a RUSH.
All meat is weighed but they are rushing everything to the point that you can’t see if they’re really giving you the weight of what you are paying for. Prior to me stepping away to get my fountain drink I specifically asked for a RECEIPT. I’m so grateful my daughter or son didn’t just pay for our food & waited for me to return. My daughter said when I stepped away our initial total was close to $190.00! But I’m sure once the guy on the register realized that I was coming back he removed some items but forgot to remove the Turkey!
So we get our food and go to the patio to eat outside. I begin looking for my receipt and realized the guy checking us out didn’t give me one. Understandably so, due to the fact that he’s OVERCHARGING people. I immediately return to the register asking for my receipt and was told he couldn’t find my receipt. Really???
There could have only have been a few customers that would have checked out after us. AND I’m not leaving without my receipt.
By this time the manager stepped in to assist me at another register. It took him a little time to find my receipt but he did. The guy at the register had charged us for Turkey 1lb which was $25.71! We DID NOT PURCHASE any turkey! The manager had to go to the register that was initially used for our transaction to get our receipt. The guy that checked us out is nervously tapping his fingers behind his back. Not ONCE did he apologize for grossly over charging us. He wouldn’t even look at me. Which let me know that he intentionally over charged us and I’m sure he has done this before. The manager went to the back and came back out and finally refunded our entire initial ticket and re-checked us out. Our ticket went from $189.00 to $159.63 down to $131.83. Although the food is good we won’t be back due to being RUSHED (which I believe is by design) AND charged for items we didn’t order. Enjoy your food BUT PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU ARE BEING CHARGED FOR AND ALWAYS...
Read moreThis is the legendary Terry Black's Barbeque from Austin, TX. First time trying it and I would always hear about how it's one of the best BBQ places in DFW so I had high expectations. We came at around 8pm and was surprised by just how busy Terry Black's was--the parking lot is relatively small but there's a whole lot of seats outside, on the upstairs outdoor patio, and inside the building as well. They have this smoke pit room that you can see right as you enter the building and holy cow, do they have a lot of smokers. It smelled amazing. When we got in, we were pleasantly surprised by how well organized and clean the layout was. First off, when you get in, you can order your sides in different sizes. We ordered the cream corn, Mexican rice, and green beans with pickled onion and pickles. Then they pass off your tray to you and then you order your meat. We got a pound of sliced brisket and one bone in beef rib. We were going to order a turkey but they had ran out by 8pm. The rib is huge. It's famous by just how humongous it is, how juicy the meat is, and how the meat just slides off the bone.
Cream corn was amazing. It has a hint of cinnamon in it that just compliments it so perfectly. Mmm. Best cream corn I've ever had.
The green beans were nice.
The Mexican rice was good.
The pickles and onion were a good addition to our meat.
The sliced brisket was great. Delicious. Juicy, tender. Not too charred. Just the right amount of char.
The beef rib was so thick and juicy and flavorful. I did get a mouthful of salt on one part of the meat which surprised me but overall it's pretty good. Pretty fatty so if you're conscious of that, it might be something to consider.
Terry Blacks comes with 3 sauces. The sauces are alright.
What stands out is the really good customer service. Even though it was 8pm on a Friday and there's been lots of customers before us, we were still treated well and the cashiers took the initiative to explain where we can find sauces and silverware. I love the casual, relaxed, hip atmosphere. It's definitely a place to come with a large or small group of people and just hang out while eating good barbecue.
They also had souvenirs and merchandise out on display that you could purchase.
Despite how busy they were, we were served fast and noticed that when people left their table, the table was quickly cleaned up and readied for the...

We were here visiting from Memphis — a city that takes BBQ seriously — and we’ve always heard the debate: Does Texas do it better? Well, after eating here, we have to say… Texas brought the heat, and this place brought the proof.
First off, the large beef ribs were next-level. Smoky, tender, and fall-off-the-bone delicious. The bark had just the right amount of char, and the meat was juicy and flavorful all the way through. The chopped brisket sandwich was another standout — smoky, rich, and piled high, with a perfect balance of meat and fat that melted in your mouth. In hindsight, i wish that I had gotten the sliced brisket because it wasn’t as fatty. Something about the texture with the fat included with the meat didn’t sit well with me.
The creamy mac n cheese was a bit on the average side — not bad, just didn’t hit the same heights as the meats. The sweet corn was average and the hot corn muffin, served straight from the kitchen, was perfect with the addition of some whipped butter.
Finally, the dessert was a welcomed treat that we barely had room to enjoy-peach cobbler. It was delicious, not too sweet and just enough crust! All in all, everything that we had was absolutely tasty!!! 😍
One of the best parts of the experience? The smokers/grills where the food was cooked were an open space attached to the restaurant so you could see where it was being prepared from. This was cool, but you could also see your meat cut and prepped right in front of you after placing your order, which added an extra layer of authenticity to the whole visit. No mystery here — just great BBQ, served right.
The indoor and outdoor seating areas were spacious and welcoming — plenty of room to dig in and enjoy without feeling cramped. But what really made our visit special was the team behind the counter. Lalo and David were amazing — friendly, fun, and genuinely passionate about what they do. We told them we were from Memphis, and they leaned right into the friendly rivalry with laughs, stories, and great service.
If you’re looking for real-deal Texas BBQ with heart and soul behind every plate, don’t miss this place. Whether you're local or just passing through, it's the kind of spot that leaves a lasting impression — and a serious craving to come back for more. We will be back for some good ole TX...
